    I moved to a new apartment with a network box that has connections that terminate in each room. I know a router like this is over kill but i couldn't resist. You saved me hours of potentially soul crushing work with this video I don't ever smash that like button but i am today. Thank you sir!!!!

    Excellent explanation on how to do a very basic setup for this EdgeRouter! I purchased it for a small network at a church with existing Ubiquity Access Points for WiFi - just needed a router with hard wired connections. This video provides clear and concise instructions to get it up and running. Thanks so much!!!

One thing I could suggest, for us old-timers with old eyes... Somehow, make critical numbers, easier to see... on the other hand 1080p full screen, and replaying a few times worked too. Thank You!!

    If you're having problems after saving the settings, try rebooting your modem, I had the same issue where I couldn't connect to the internet after saving and this worked. Make sure you reboot correctly so you don't have to reactivate your modem w/ your provider (for example with Cox, restart from the Cox app). Hope this helps anybody who needs it.

    Great video, you did an excellent job at explaining things. Truly liked your entire approach. but FYI- you can’t ruin non POE ports by connecting them to POE devices. It’s part of the standard, all Ethernet devices non Poe will ignore (and not be ruined) otherwise a Poe network would be a mine field. Think of if you have a separate Poe switch in your home, it would be a disaster if it could break your router just by using the wrong ports.

    Thank you for the warning about the reset button on this router.

    That has always been my "go to" when I screw up the config on home routers.

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Davy Yes, you can reset if you mess up the configuration, but you have to start over from scratch. Your router won't be usable until it is configured again since the default settings are not made to work "out of the box".

    Awesome tutorial. I have numerous items coming into my current TP-Link router including a WiFi router. Some items pass through a switch before hitting the TP-Link. Device>Switch (or direct)>TP-Link Ethernet Router>Arris Cable Modem. I assume I connect the same way with with the ER? Use the available LAN ports? Also assume the Edge Router 4 is identical setup?

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Guide, one of the best, except a tiny flaw.
    ER-X DOES "create POE" if you feed it with a stronger 12V supply.
    The 12V suply which comes with it, can only deliver 5W,
    and the ER-X uses between 3 and 5 W...
    Therefore a more powerfull suply is needed,
    to feed another device also.
    But one guy, in another guide on TH-cam,
    tried to attach some Unifi unit,
    and it did start up,
    even when only the 5W 12V supply fed the ER-X.
    Ubiquiti writes:
    To deliver POE to another unit,
    feed the ER-X with a 24V POE supply,
    OR a more powerful 12V supply,
    (like ~ 12W from a 12V 1A suply)
    to the ER-X
    Best regards :)

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should use the reset button if you want to return to factory defaults. I was just trying to clarify that the "reset" button will cause you to have to re-configure the entire device (it works as intended). My point was you can't just factory reset and expect it to function without going through the entire setup again (other routers will still provide connection with factory settings, but these do not).

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That comment at the end is something I should have phrased better. It does not brick the device. What I meant was that you will have to re-configure everything once you reset it (go through the basic setup wizard again or restore from a backup configuration). This is in contrast to other consumer devices that comes out of the box with a working configuration (plug and play).

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sorry, that part has always been a bit vague. I clarify it in the newer version of the video, but the reset button just reverts everything to the factory defaults. You have to go back through the configuration and setup if you reset the device.
      My main point was that you can't just use the reset button as a "refresh/reboot" and expect it to work without re-configuring the device.

    • @ToastyAnswers
      @ToastyAnswers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It kind of does, but it isn't very reliable for historical data. UNMS (UISP) would offer more insight into historical data, but this is a separate piece of software.
      The device does have traffic monitoring built-in, but it doesn't show offloaded traffic and the history is very limited.
