I've built tonnes of old boats from plans in Sketchup... it is the closest thing you could get to building a couple of boats and comparing them to each other on one page. Still building up the courage to do the real thing.
Can't wait for the next video. I'm always looking for boat build videos to watch, especially during the Winter when it's too cold to work in my unheated shed, and I think I found a winner here.👍

I am working on getting more of these videos out. The boat was put on hold for a moment as we got caught up in helping LAMI finish repairs and maintenance on their other boats. I am hoping I can get new episodes out in a few weeks.
@@realmattdean If you are steaming nearly all 44, yeah odds aren't in your favor. I snapped or splintered like 4 in a row near the end and I'd gone for like 35 with no problems. I started thinking I wasn't steaming enough, or too much and then afraid I was going to run out of oak. good grief. Looking back I think it was because I had to use some kiln dried for the last few and it just didn't go as well as my 'greener' stock and, I wasn't paying as much attention to grain run out but when the sticks are 50 inches long and only 1 inch thick, what can you do. looking forward to your series!!
@@JenkinsBoatWorks I've been learning a lot from the team here and you're right about the details of steaming. Green and air dried vs kiln dried - grain run out - all things I had no idea about before. On ours - We had trouble with the sharpest bend near the transom which made things real interesting.
hahaha - yes. We upped the drama a little - however - it did feel pretty dramatic at the time and I'm betting there was a little drama at home when the wife found out the spaghetti pot needed replaced.🤣

Oh the things that can go wrong. At least you didn’t have any wood split.
It worked on the test, but wait until you see Chapter Three where we steam the rest. There may be a few ribs that don't make it!
