    If you notice when Robert first enters the office, Gordon has this look on his face like he's expecting something ridiculous. Like a stupid complaint or some bitching. Once Robert actually starts to explain himself, you see his face change as he realises its a pretty serious request and he's genuinely sorry for what he did.

    • @chefz2749
      @chefz2749 3 ปีที่แล้ว +955

      I did see that. At first he’s thinking “what the hell does this guy want?” And then Robert explains it and he gets a look on his face that just says “oh damn.”
      And Robert did make an excellent point - Ramsay dealt with a lot of the same shit from his father than Robert got from his. So if there’s three things Ramsay understands, it’s cooking, soccer and dickhead fathers.

      It's next to impossible for anyone, whether a regular bystander or a professional social worker, to show any amount of empathy when they themselves are experiencing any sort of anger or irritation at all. Every psychologist and social worker knows this. Chef Ramsay, one of the greatest chefs in the world, is no social worker, but he recognized, *in the moment*, that he was not ready to have any sort of heart-to-heart with anyone. So he practiced a great deal of restraint in simply saying "Later. Not now. I can't deal with this."

    Robert was one of my all time favorite contestants on this show. Just listen to him at 3:15, “you can really turn this around if you want to”, not everyone is going to try and lift someone up and encourage them when they’re really struggling, especially in a competition where there’s only one winner with big money involved at the end. Just shows that Robert had integrity and character and was just an all around decent person.

    "Bob" is like the abreviation of "Robert", since he's a lot younger than Gordon, it's self-explanatory why he calls the lad "Bobby". Robert's abuse by his dad is something that can really trigger him, yet he first did his job, then sought out Gordon in private and calmly explained the situation. Because he did that, Gordon naturally respected him, apologized, and corrected his mistake in the future. Both are a perfect example of what it means to be a man. Not an overgrown boy, a man!

    Gordon Ramsay reminds me a lot of the quality leadership I had in the Marines. You would get shit on, called out, and broken down if you weren't performing; there was no room for excuses, so you got better. But if you had a legitimate issue, whether it be with trauma, or family or something, a good leader will respect you and listen. They'll understand your hardships and work with you to build you up. Some professions are less intense than the military or a high stakes kitchen, but a good leader will always do these 2 things: Push you past your limits to help you succeed, and work with your personal needs.

    Gordon is such a great leader. He is a hardass to bring the best out of his people. He pushes them to be the best they can be but knows when to stop he knows limitations and can sniff out talent and build around people’s strengths. The fact that he apologized, fixed what he was doing , yet still sets an expectation of communication is insane to me.

    • @taylorbraithwaite3337
      @taylorbraithwaite3337 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are services in Hell's Kitchen where he is a lot softer than others when things go to hell. You're quite right in saying he knows where the limits are. He's not deliberately trying to break their spirits. He's using their competitive drive, their arrogance, and their pride to FORCE them to give him their best. All professional kitchens are like this. It's a breeding ground for abuse and mistreatment, and Gordon makes a point in that he doesn't participate in meaningless humiliation. It's not meaningless if you've been in kitchens for any length of time and you're bringing up RAW meat and RAW pasta. Time management is incredibly crucial in these kitchens and for things to run smoothly everyone has to talk and everyone has to know how long each portion of all of the dishes on the menu will take and what to start first and when to start the others. And it's the hardest skill I've ever seen anyone try to learn. In ANY kitchen, even ones without professional chefs, it's a skill you have to learn and it's difficult. And you can't hesitate.
      So when he's cursing everybody out, that is the skill he's looking for. If they can't cultivate that skill, they aren't a good fit for one of his kitchens.
      But a service where everyone is really trying and doing their best and Gordon can see and hear it, but things still aren't lining up and something still isn't quite right...He's definitely frustrated, but you'll notice he's less loud, less on their ass about time, less demanding. He's trying to help them work out what the problem is, even if he is a bit pissed off.
      It's why I don't mind watching him. He is very genuine with praise when it's deserved, he enjoys seeing each individual succeed at something they've struggled with before. He doesn't have time or patience for pissing contests and arguing, when you could be doing it properly, honing your craft, and making money.
      I love Gordon. ❤️

    When Gordon APOLOGIZES rather than insults, is just crazy

    Deep down Gordon is a solid dude. He cares about these young chefs and wants them to succeed which is why he is SO HARD on them. I have so much respect for Chef Ramsay. I even wrote an essay on him in Eng102

      Well maybe you want to go with J Z. Make him sound like the rapper. Btw you know how many Vietnamese "Mr Ng" we have in Australia?

    A very understanding moment between Robert and Gordon. You can see Gordon’s face change once Robert explains and the relief on Robert’s face.

      They signed up for cameras to show them on tv and would’ve had to ask Bobby if it was ok to use this clip

    So much respect for GR for this scene. He rides people hard, but he also knows where the boundaries are and doesn't want to cross them.

    Hit me right in the feels, what a man Gordon is. Nobody could have handled that better.
