The best way to mount a pipe up there is to use what’s called a handrail flange… You can take a chisel or if you have access to one a hole, saw and cut a little pocket into the wood to recess it for added strength. But basically what it does is you have the end of the pipe threaded and then you screw the flange on there and when you get ready to attach it to the wood you attach it to the wood with four leg screws. If you chisel out a circle for it to sit in, that’s about an inch deep, there is no way it can ever come out, but you still have that flange to where the pipe can never turn because the threads only allow the pipe to turn one way. Put a little red or green Loctite on the threads when you set them and it will never turn. The green Loctite is so permanent. It normally takes heating with a torch to get it off. They use it to keep gun barrels in place.
A handrail flange for 1 inch pipe cost maybe $3-5 dollars last time I checked so they’re not real expensive.
Also, if you wanna save digging an extra hole and buying an extra piece of wood, you can get double duty out of one of the poles for your pull up bar and use it as one of the supports for your parallel bars… There’s no reason why you can’t use the end support for your pull up bar as one of the supports for one end of your parallel bars and that saves you a whole post at a hole full of concrete. And it just makes the entire situation even more strong and resilient to movement because now it’s braced in multiple directions.

don't know where you are but if you are where it freezes you do not want to concrete them in as concrete and wood expand and contract at different rates, leaving space between the wood and concrete and they will rot after a few years as water will get in between them. I just tar the post bottoms that go in to the ground + about 6" above to protect them from rot, and pack them in as tight as you can. I go 42" deep as that is all my hand diggers can reach I use clam and a auger No motor it is a great work out and even more when you hit rocks and tree roots.

I have some 2" hollow steel pipe that was used for a jungle gym before. I want to use this pipe to make pull up bars instead of the 6x6 wood beams. Do you think the 2" pipe will be adequate to make it stable and solid? I'm guessing 2" steel pipe is more rigid than 6x6 wood but who knows. Also, can I dig deeper and that would help compensate for it not being 6x6?

This may vary depending on the area but where I'm at, Home Depot has the 12ft 6x6's for 39 each and you'd need 4, 2 whole ones for the pull up bar and 2 cut in half for the dip bar. the galvanized steel pipe is about 30 for 10ft of the 1inch thick stuff for the pull up bar and probably another 30 to 40 for the thicker one for the dip bar. then I'd expect another 50ish on concrete. So this should cost anywhere from 250-300. Not terrible at all but you gotta build it too. Also 4ft deep holes are not easy to dig, you might rent one of those post hole diggers that does all the work for you, but it'll cost extra

Nick Getting a 12 foot 6x6 piece of lumbar home and moving it to the backyard takes at least three strong men and a dualie pickup truck. Try lifting just the end of one next time you’re at the lumbar store. Not happening.

Cool One I mean yeah I was just going over materials and cost, tools and labor are another story I agree. you'd need a saw to cut the wood, a drill with bits for the 2 sizes of pipe and for the bolt, something to mix the concrete, and a level and probably some more stuff. So if you're not already someone who builds shit it's gonna be quite difficult. Tbh I've seen this build with 4x4's before and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I just see splitting in the wood eventually. I had an idea that another 2 posts could go up some distance behind the pull up bar with slack lines on it, and you tighten those to keep the wood from splitting. and on the second set of posts you could put a rope climb instead of a pull up bar, or maybe some rings

@@PaTaT0728 right on, i bought a dip bar pull up bar station, and its just under 24 inches from inside to inside, the bars are thin, when i do dips on it, it feels kind of wide for me. im 5'6" 165lbs. i have another dip bar, its a v shape, it has thick handles, i do them with the bars going inward from my pov. feels more better. it seems the distance from inside to inside on those at bottom of palms where my pinkies are at, is about same as the dip pull up bar station, but maybe the v shape makes the difference, or it could be the thickness.
