Lisbon’s Famous Yellow Tram | How to get to Belém

- We’re back in the gorgeous Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Join us as we finally hop on one of the famous Remolado trams that wind and grind their way through the city’s hills. They may be 80 years old, they still faithfully climb up the world’s steepest railways through neighborhoods such as Alfama and Principe Real.
The only route that uses modern, longer trams is the 15E to Algés. This route passes the famous UNESCO Heritage Site Belém, a popular tourist spot. We planned to ride that tram, but we didn’t exactly get what we bargained for…

Fun fact: there are only 10 articulated trams riding line 15. That´s why they also use buses. However, 15 aditional articulated trams have been bought from CAF and are currently in construction and will start arriving in 2022. 5 others will also be procured in the next few years. Finally, the mayor has been promising buing 10 new custom-made modern trams similar to the old ones to boost the other lines and possibly reopening 2 which were deactivated decades ago!

Also, in a few years construction of 2 new LRT lines (so, basically a tram with a right-of-way) called LIOS Ocidental and LIOS Oriental will start, connecting Alcântara to Oeiras and Santa Apolónia to Parque das Nações and Moscavide, respectively. These in the middle will use the tracks from line 15E (which also is being expanded west and east, to Algés and from Praça do Comércio to Santa Apolónia, respectively). So, plenty of tram news in the next years!
I've always wanted to travel to Lisbon and ride the trams there. I love the scenery as well.

That's a very nice video you've got there.
Some little precicions and some nice info at the end.
The 'Remidelado' (Remodelled) Trams actually are not from the 1930s. In reality only the shells - from older cars built between 1932 & 1937-, are reused. These Trams were built between 1994 and 1996 with modern electrical components, making them a sort of modern car disguised as 'Classic' (tjey're Icons of the city, so it was decided to build them like this, and off course some lines are impossible for articulated cars. In 2 cases the overhead wires are only prepared for Trolley operation);
Route 15; It's a complicated problem. Not enough articulated cars to keep up with demand (only 10 were aqcuired, and of these only 8 are operational).
Now the good news; Carris has tecently ordered from CAF 15 new Articulated cars to supplement the existing ones in operation. Also some presently closed sections are due for reactivation; the one from Algés to Cruz Quebrada, closed since 1996, and a section that's gonna be a mix of old and new, from Praça do Comércio to Santa Apolónia train station. Possibly route 15 will be split into 2 lines, with one operating, as it used to be, from Cruz Quebrada to Praça da Figueira, and another from Algés or Belém to Santa Apolónia, creating a 'middle section ' in wich far more intense service will be offered.
But there's even better: two completely new 'Light Metro ' (a fancy name for trams ...) are in very advanced stages of plannimg, totalling 24,4 Km of track. Gauge will be the present 900 mm, and it will greatly expand the system, a tendence that started in April 24.2018 with the reopening of route 24 (it had been closed in 1197, it is also to be extended downhill from Camões to Cais do Sodré).
