Well done on getting through these - heavy doesn't begin to describe it. Even if not by design, I've only ever seen one other reactor do both in one sitting. Joe lives on through Ren and through the portrayal of the awful tragic circumstances and Ren's talent in bringing the subject to people's consciousness in such a heartfelt and honest way, countless lives are being saved. That is Joe's legacy - from tragedy comes beauty.
He has said in interviews that the song was just the first half, and it never felt complete. He thought he'd dealt with Joe's death pretty thoroughly, but then the second part just came tumbling out separately, long after he'd written the first part. He apparently usually writes his song, memorizes it and then records it, but this time he wrote it a few lines at a time, recorded them while he was feeling all the feels and then wrote the next few. His cries are real on the recording, which is heartbreaking to hear that pain. He created a fundraiser with a goal of £15,000 for the RNLI, the volunteer organization that came out to look for Joe's body, but the Menai Strait's current never gave him up. At any rate, he ended up raising £21,000, which he donated earlier this year. The video of the donation is probably on his page. For me, it's just rough to think he carries the guilt of believing he could have saved him if he'd run just a little faster. He arrived on the bridge not long after Joe' s phone went out of service. No one should have to carry that. 💔 I couldn't find the video of the donation, but here's a link to the fundraiser on which he gives more of the story. As you're getting to know him, check out his community page. www.justgiving.com/page/ren-gill-1685546882254?Fren-gill-1685546882254&Link&
Yes I found that part particularly heart-breaking, when he said 'if he'd gotten there quicker' or something along those lines, as if it was his fault. You're right, no one should have to carry that around on their shoulders. It's not his fault. Oh gosh it's horrible :( . Thank you for the link. xxxx
REn loved Joe to bits and it took its toll on him quite a bit as you would expect , his album freckled angels is like an ode to Joe , the money Ren got from this song , was divided with Joes family , Ren is a great man , he shows us the way that we seem to have forgotten in this modern society , i love him to bits
Thank you for reacting to this track Paula, it covers what is a personal tragedy and also a tragic subject but it has a 'positive melancholy' also. Ren yet again just created a beautiful thing out of the opposite, his music heals. 😊
It does, you're so right. I found it tough to keep it together for this one. But our boy is doing great both with his music and with his health and is feeling very positive atm, I watch all his Instagram reels. So I hope he never has to feel this way again. xxx
@@PaulaReactswe couldn't edit out our own shock and tears. But Ren came on Twitch the next day to make sure we were all alright and let us know how he was doing and how it all happened.
@@PaulaReacts most people who watch this will have cried over this many times already and are expecting the same of you. Would you rob us of the experience? 😉😂
