    I agree with you, it's not the amount of time, but the quality that matters. Same here with the practicing. I just don't even keep track. One day it might be 20 mins, another, it might be 3 hours stretched out over a 24 hour period.

    Dear Ms. Tiffany, Thank you so much for sharing! I studied classical guitar for 40 yrs but switched to Piano at 65 and am always searching out the new young brilliant pianists of today. My career was Architecture (retired) and now build guitars and ukuleles...the point being; it is wonderful to see the diversity in your goals and aspirations. Thanks again, your playing is always an inspiration for an aspiring pianist!❤

    Wow Tiffany, I never use to listen to classical music so much. But I fell in love with Chopin and hearing you play his music, just blew me away... but I guess you always get that from everyone... really hope to meet you one day. I think that Classical music will be my new love from now on. Amazing... Love All You're Videos. You're so Humble!!! Can't help but admire your work.

    Some time since I last watched and I missed this one first time around. Strong, clear and precise gestures from Tiffany. Becoming more familiar with Tiffany's US language and cultural upbringing. A great ambition in understanding and performing this western art form, enrichened with Tiffany's life experiences.

    Tiffany, I've watched you videos for years and I'm still struck by you being such a genuinely good and kindly spirit. You are such a likeable person. Best of luck for your continued career success. The Schumann Davidsbundlertanze you recently did live was really wonderful!

    I think focus on your study, piano practice, and enjoy your personal time, the youtube thing is secondary. One update per week or month, our appreciation for watching a talented person like you is still the same :) Cheers from New Zealand.

    OMG you're so sweet and you're also my favorite pianist at the moment.
    Could you give some study and practice tips? Do you think anyone can get there and play that amazing 'Mazeppa' or only the gifted ones who started at early age?

    • @Numberonesorabjifan
      @Numberonesorabjifan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mazepaa is a bit too much in my opinion. That piece is like too much but technically anyone can learn in if there is no limit to how long you can take to learn it

    Gosh. She’s “only” practicing three hours a day who’s is not too much compared to other pianists at her level and doesn’t even do it as her job. And all this at such young age. Just saw your performance of the Spanish Rhapsody the speed and dynamics are out of this world. You are incredibly talented you just motivated me to practice more like three hours instead of two in a day maybe I can play at least a few Chopin Etudes then. Unbelievable. You’re just my age. Dig you!

    Thank you Tiffany for all the great video content you put up. I am not a classical pianist but I am learning a Chopin etude for in my enjoyment. It's a nice way to spend lockdown and your performance is what inspired me to start learning it. It's opened up my mind and my world tremendously. There is a universe of exercises that I can spend hours working through just from that one piece. I enjoy it all. Thanks for sharing a bit of the hard work you do to make your performances so great. Stay well.

    You seem like such a regular person when you talk (I also watched your video when you played Richard Wagner's piano) even like someone I could have as a friend; but you seem so elegant when you play like you are in a very different world. I doubt there are very many incredibly accomplished pianists like you that can actually be regular people as well. Thank you for showing this side of you.

    She's right it's the quality of practice not the quantity-practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. Also to improve you have to spend time working on your weak points.

    Very nice to know about your interest for Philosophy! I met Philosophy through Music, and it´s great because being a Pianist demands an experience which access lots of internal skills, mental activities, besides all the discipline we need to get anything! So, it´s a deep and practical path to self-knowledge, and Philosophy comes to expand all that in several levels! I think that Musical experience really helps us to understand Philosophy yet in other deep levels!

  • @johnkiunke4508
    @johnkiunke4508 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just from past experience I've found that quality of practice is what determines whether I improve (hands separate, small sections, staccato, slow, rhythms, reading the score away from the piano) but that more time is needed in proportion to the amount of repertoire I want to take on, especially being on a semester system where there's a set time for the batch of pieces in a given semester.

      I have to be in the mood also. I try to play pieces I like. That is motivating. Also, if guests come over, have them sing a song as you play. That is motivating. You will want to expand your number of songs so others will like joining you with their singing. Also, if another instrument player comes over, great fun. You play piano, guest plays guitar or bass. Sing in harmony together. Starting a small band is a motivator. Flute players welcomed. Drummers and trumpet players- I like, but the neighbors do not. Sometimes the neighbors knock on the wall for us to quiet down. Then, after initially feeling guilty, it's time for a shower and sex.

    What I hear about optimal practice time from professionals is very similar to what you’re saying. The most particular thing I always hear is “Your brain wont be able to handle more than 4 hours of practice”. Not meaning you will go insane, meaning your brain wont really take the extra practice in. It needs time to rest and absorb what you’ve learned before the next day. End all, it comes down to quality exponentially more than quantity
    Btw, your playing posture was better when you were 2 than mine is today

  • @GIguy
    @GIguy ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a difficult question to answer, even though I’m just an amateur who is self taught, I don’t really call at practice, because I love playing so much, it doesn’t matter if I’m playing for people, or by myself, it doesn’t matter if I’m rehearsing or giving a performance. To me, it’s all the same, I have the same enthusiasm, and the same joy, so it’s not really practice, it’s just playing, constantly trying to improve my skills…..BUT, if I had to differentiate, I would say, I am playing for myself, or I am playing a concert, obviously, during a concert, I’m much more focused, otherwise, I’ll play whatever I feel like playing, and switch songs right in the middle of another song. Not sure if it’s the same for people on your level, but I would imagine it probably is, because aside from the dedication, the bigger aspect is the love of what you do. And when you love something as much as I love playing, it’s not practice, and it’s not work, it’s pure joy.

    Hi Tiffany,
    This is a nice video with the questions and answers. I have watched all your videos - your playing is marvelous - and I would like to make a suggestion. Could you make a video of 'A day in the life of a concert pianist' (featuring, of course, you) in much the same style as a video I saw on TH-cam called 'A day in the life of a ballerina' which was about Yuhui Choe, a dancer with the Royal Ballet in London. It followed her through her day, and lasted about nine minutes. You get to know the person, and their thoughts and feelings.
    Is there any way of knowing when you'll do a livecast (?) on TH-cam again? I would love to be able to ask a question. Finally, I used to watch Marc-Andre Hamelin playing Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 because he's amazing (his improvisation towards the end of the piece is incredible), but now I've seen you play it, yours is the best!
