Great reels and I will never part with any of them, but my favourite is the 2500C, which came out in the early 80's. Best bass reel on the market in its time. High retrieval and ball bearing with a upgraded set of teflon discs for the drag makes it one helluva reel.
I just bought one identical to yours today. It looks beautiful I like vintage reels. It has no magnets though but I have a millionaire I can cast but some back lash at times. I try to really throw it hard and far. Hense back lash sometimes. You really into the bass on this video looks like fun.
I use a paracord lanyard on my rod in a kayak vs. attached float devices...if you put a loop in the butt end of the rod ..you don't even know it's attached... 3-4 feet long
Nice video! Fun to see that it's not just me who thinks that the gear ratio is to slow. Did a rebuild of mine to 4.7:1 from 3,8:1. Makes all the differens but wan't to get it up to 5,2:1 or higher. Mounted ceramic bearings and ABU's 6-pin brake on mine aswell. That was a good upgrade :)
plutoplatters I like it when I dont need to crank like a fool. All the reels I usually use is about 6.3-.6.8 and that is perfect for me. But with the right bait 4.7:1 can be perfect.

I don't own any record ambassadeurs yet but I do have a mid to late 40s record 1800 in excellent shape, '51 record 1500 in good shape ant two '58 ambassadeur 5000. They all get used too. Was that a vintage heddon lure? Tight lines!!!
I have an abu 5000 from '62 i believe ... im not sure if it is a record... do all records say record or is there some that just say Abu ambassadeur 5000?

I had a 6000, also non bearing (brass bushing). Anyone new to the Abu range remember the bearing models show 'c' after the reel name, so 6000c.

Lure is easy to lose :) I'm scared to use it.
