i cant hear all the amazing stuff at the same time . u have to listen this performance like 10,000 times to listen really what every one is doing . so much vitamins and nutrients to feed yourself for 10 years
i heard Eric Harland Played "Moment's Notice" with Mr. McCoy Tyner, and i just couldn't believe the sound of this guy thanks jazz heaven for sharing this
I can tell by how relaxed every motion Eric makes he practices like hell. I been playing for over 3o years now and NOTHING!!! Beats PRACTICE...PRACTICE...PRACTICE. It shows... Peace
they are cow hooves! he uses them because they sound natural to him, and they can be used for other applications. He explains all of his gear in another video, and demonstrates a 6 minute solo in another video. You and @badluckwitcarpet should definitely check them out!
Wow! I met you at the Hotel Bayerischerhof you were with the great Dave Holland and Craig Taborn, Kevin Eubanks, and you and the guys blew the roof off of the place! Amazing control and touch! It's wonderful to see you play in almost any situation, very inspiring, Thanks. I was playing percussion the following night with Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos, E.J.Rodriguez
That´s an awesome way to play drums.. I thought Bill Stewart was the only modern jazz drummer i liked but the you came in.. Marvelous man!! All piano and bass players too!!
i was browsing through this guys drumming videos with absolutely no idea until this one and a quick wikipedia search that he drummed on invisible cinema. my fandom of aaron parks and my new found fandom of this guy collided in a pretty good way.
Great stuff. Eric is one of the great young masters, along with tyshawn sorey. A little older, but another genius-Antonio Sanchez. Every time I here these guys they are like a percussion symphony. But my fav. perhaps ever-Jeff "Tain" Watts.
Just subscribed to your site, and love it. Please whenever you can, please post videos of guitar players, including lessons on improvisation, if you can. Thanks a lot, keep up the good work. Cheers from Brazil. CB
Well, blues for me is B.B.King, Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy. plus a ton more of that kind. Eric Harland is a monster jazz drummer :o)
Hello everyone! Please what instrument is that on the drumhead? It is look like a percussion instrument. You can see it better in 4'18"". Thanks a lot!
Those are middle eastern clam bells. In their traditional use, you'll typically see them wrapped around the ankle for dancing. Eric, among other drummers, have been using them for subtle timbre change on their drums and even cymbals. Cool effect for sure.
Goat hooves Chajchas (also chapchas; Spanish: uñas, "toenails") are a small percussion instrument of the rattle family, typically made from goat or sheep hooves, and originating in the Central Andes. from Wikipedia
Zildjian k Constantinople medium thin low with 3 rivets in it. He uses a nylon tip stick on it to give it more definition since it is a very dark cymbal
...it's like I start to focus on Harland...on drumming...and I ask my self, what's he doing?...it does not sound good!...then I make a step back, forget about him and start listening to the whole...and then comes the music!
These guys play with such restraint and maturity it's insane.
i cant hear all the amazing stuff at the same time . u have to listen this performance like 10,000 times to listen really what every one is doing . so much vitamins and nutrients to feed yourself for 10 years
Eloy Hurtado Bermudez true!!
ya man i just keep coming back for more!
I have to say the height that Aaron reached in his solo is amazing. This whole video is insane
Just love his quarter note swing, less spang-alang , and the space between the notes
Gentle, tuneful drumming - like warm summer rain
Eric's gotta be one of the top 5 best drummers in the world. Such taste and wildly imaginative. Heavy Elvin Jones influence here.

No one told Aaron they would film his feet!!! HAHAH
This guy's playing is pure butter. All three of the musicians are fantastic.

What a beautiful sounding drumset! And don't me started on the cymbals. Excellent playing guys!
Out of this world musical drumming..
One of the meanest blues I've ever heard 😮
I listened to these with some headphones, man, and I gotta say beautiful playing. Smooth and poppy at the same time. You guys are great. :)
That´s an awesome way to play drums.. I thought Bill Stewart was the only modern jazz drummer i liked but the you came in.. Marvelous man!! All piano and bass players too!!
Dat ride
Harland has the lightest touch of any drummer I know...and so tasteful...
Incredible touch!
Aaron and Eric your reach goes deep into the heart of New Zealand Jazzers.
Cool! Thanks for the update. These videos are super cool. I am a huge fan on Mr . Harland, and I am so glad to see these videos. THANKS!

Eric, truly you are a master of your craft. Hope to see you live on the west coast soon.
Well crafted approach to a blues, I must say. 🌧
Brilliant performance and musicality! Peaceful warrior masterminds!
So inspiring!!!!
This is superb drumming!

4:25 how did Eric know Aaron was going to play that quick fill at the end of his solo and compliment him with it??? Was that pre-planned?
this is heaven!
WOW! That groove! Stunning!
his touch on the kit is unreal
The sound is amazing !!! Excellent 👌

Oooommmmmgggg soooo good!!!!!!
Absolutly Gorgeous
Is Harland playing a mounted snare drum with the snares off? Or is it just an incredibly shallow tom?
sounds great,,,!!
Muito bom... Very good!
Very Monkesque :-) Nice.
Where did you hide you before? Supreme!
think he uses the marvellous k constantinople medium thin low 22''
That "BIrdlike" reference from Aaron at 2:21

Anyone knows how is named the thing Eric has on his snare and floor tom?

❤❤❤❤❤
Well, it´s not my definition of blues, but it´s extremely well-played.
What's that ride cymbal?!!!
why doesnt it sound like this when I play a blues with a trio?
What is the symbol on the the left? The dark crash, trashy sounding one?
The cymbal on his left looks like an old K zildjian. The other is a K Constantinople.
utubsuxcox It looks like a K Custom Dry Complex Ride. They don't make them anymore.
Mikael Nitsche I have one, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as his.
+Tyler Steege 18" K EFX, stacked on a splash. making it even trashier sounding! :) (if you're referring to video left and not seated left)
How can you thumbs down this piece?
anyone knpws what's his left hand side ride?
custom special dry ride
That’s one of the discontinued Bill Stewart rides. It’s called the dry complex ride. He plays it beautifully
2:15 byrdlike
monk on 2:20 mark
what is thta on top of snare from and floor tom
They're some kind of big beads. He uses them to give his drums a rattling sound. You can buy those at most music stores.
looks like a mojo hand and johnny the conquerer root.
Goat hooves
What is that ride?!
Zildjian k Constantinople medium thin low with 3 rivets in it. He uses a nylon tip stick on it to give it more definition since it is a very dark cymbal
Thanks very much!
***** it is a constantonple low
Mich or him?
Anybody notice he favors me Jay Pharoah
cant hear the bass
Love that ride, but, your hats are on backward.heheheh.
...it's like I start to focus on Harland...on drumming...and I ask my self, what's he doing?...it does not sound good!...then I make a step back, forget about him and start listening to the whole...and then comes the music!
re Harland's drumming in isolation, 'it does not sound good' ???
youre a philistine with zero taste
Yes, but in that case I can call random black metal music, or any type of music blues, as long as its built on 12 bars?
I heard Thel0niousMonk
🥀😃💙🍀
Hi! Does anybody know what hihat it is? its killing! And its sound amazing btw!
Stas Aleksandrowicz i think he said in another video it's actually 16" crashes
Jeff "Tain" Watts it's the man ! but this is good also.
So messy, so tight. It all sounds wrong, but it all sounds right.
