    • @ThatHobby

      Yeah these types of AC units are kind of loud when the compressor comes on. Once the room cools down the compressor will shut off and the fan is not that loud.

    I have the same thing.Which drain is for which .is the black for the dehumidifier or is the white one for the dehumidifier. I have it app on a pedesdull, so the drain just goes down into an old cat littered jug.
    So far I have it in the black one for the dehumidifier. Haven't needed the AC yet this year.
    Their terrible manual doesn't explain that.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The top drain is for the dehumidifier. The bottom drain is used to drain the unit when you are not using it. They recommend keeping the hose attached to the top drain when you run it in dehumidifier mode. But they also recommend plugging the top drain plug when you run it in AC mode. The compressor will get really hot inside of the unit and it circulates the excess moisture in the unit to cool down the compressor when it is in AC mode.

      I cannot get it to drain water out of any of the drain outlets no matter what mode it's In

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LovelyRobotFigurine-lr5pu There really shouldn't be any water in it. I have heard people having a similar issue with the black+decker AC unit. Even though it's a different brand it pretty much works the same way. It turned out there was a crack in the water storage tank in the AC. So the water was just pooling up in the bottom of the unit and leaking out. The water needs to be circulated back into the unit to cool the compressor. So that is probably what the issue is if the AC compressor shut down and you can't drain the unit. They said they bought their AC unit from Amazon and were able to return it with out any issues.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The drain hose is only used when you are running the unit is Dehumidify mode. When the unit is in AC mode it will circulate the water in the unit to cool the compressor.

    Also it’s pretty loud, first time ever having a portable ac unit. Help lol! Like the compressor kicking on and off. It thuds my floors 🤦🏻‍♀️ also I had zero choice but to plug it into an extension cord, my home is almost 100yrs. old.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the unit isn't getting enough power the compressor will shut off more often. It does this to protect the compressor. So make sure you don't have any other appliances running on the same breaker. The extension cord could be an issue. Make sure you use a heavy-duty extension cord that handle the power load. I haven't noticed any thuds when the compressor kicks on and off. But portable AC units can be kind of loud. You could try to put a thick rug under the unit to see if the thud is coming from inside the unit or from it banging against the floor. One thing that helps as well is to turn on the AC for a few hours before you go into the room that you are using it in. Then you can run it in fan mode to circulate the air. Fan mode is a lot quieter.

    Hello I got one of these and it does not blow at all, I noticed it has styrofoam inside of it but I'm not sure if that's factory. I'm wondering if you can check out yours and let me know???

      I didn't have any styrofoam inside of my ac unit. The directions didn't say anything about removing styrofoam either. There was a solid piece of styrofoam on the top and on the bottom of the box to hold the ac in place but there wasn't any styrofoam inside of the ac unit.

    How do you keep the window closed for security since yours is horizontal?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can buy some clamps designed for securing windows or use a piece of wood like you would use to secure a sliding glass door. But in general your best security is a dark screen that people can't see through. If you are really concerned about security building a custom window vent out of plywood would provide a higher level of security than the included window vents that come with these types of units. Most people just take the vent out of the window when they are not using it. I will make an update video on some of the different ways I secure my windows when I use these units.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The coolant has to settle. If the unit was tipped on it's side during shipping the refrigerant coolant will be displaced. It will take a few hours for it to settle. Most AC units and ice makers have this requirement in there instructions.

    So what's with the window mount not being adjustable enough for a 34" window?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am planning on making an update video about the window vent cover. I had some issues when I tried to put it in some different windows. When I tried to put it in my bedroom window the window vent was too long and needed to be cut to fit in a horizontal opening window. Then when I put it in a different window upstairs the window vent wasn't long enough so I had to cut a piece of wood to make up the difference. There are some different window vent kits that they sell on Amazon that may work better. I will add some to the video description.

    • @supertaints1710
      @supertaints1710 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I will have to make a video about draining it and see if it has any water in it. It's pretty dry out here so there probable won't be any water in it. But it's a good idea to drain it anyways. Your not late you are just early plus it's still hot out here and we are still using our ac.

    do you have to put the window thingy on your window or can you just stick the pipe out thw window

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can just stick the pipe out of the window but the window vent is used to seal up the window. A lot of hot air will blow back in if you don't seal the window. You could also use foam insulation board or a piece of wood to secure the open window.

    Why is there 2 drains? Do both drains drain out water? Which 1 drains out the most water.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't drained mine yet. I will have to drain it and make a video about it. The main drain is on the bottom. To drain the bottom one you put a pan under the unit and unscrew the drain. The top one is not for draining the unit that one is for condensation drainage. You will only need to hook a hose up to the top drain when you run the unit in dehumidify mode. But in normal AC mode you shouldn't have the top drain hose connected. The unit gets pretty hot when it is in AC mode so all that condensation is just recycled back into it to cool down the inside of the unit.

    • @ryanschilling2772
      @ryanschilling2772 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Please do make a video about water drainage. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong because my carpet was soaked with water this morning. I did have it running for a long stretch. But, I also had the hose attached to the lower part. The bowl I intended to collect any water was the only thing dry

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ryanschilling2772 There are two drain plugs on the back. The upper middle one is for dehumidify mode. You only have to connect a drain hose when you are in dehumidify mode. The bottom drain plug should only be used when you are going to store it for the winter. There typically isn't any water in the bottom drain. When the AC is on it will circulate the water to keep the compressor cool. Most of the water in the unit is just evaporated due to how hot the compressor gets. If there is water on the floor it could be stuck in dehumidify mode or you could have a leak?

      If you are having trouble finding the proprietary connectors and hose you can use a dryer hose and some aluminum heat tape. I have a couple of used AC units that I didn't have hoses for. I did that as a temporary fix until I could find the hoses. The dryer hose and the heat tape ended up working so well that I just kept it on there. Here is a link to how I set it up on one of my other AC units. th-cam.com/video/1jYEIw86yRU/w-d-xo.html

      If you are talking about the vent house you start with the tip and line it up the the thread on the vent and screw it clockwise. It's a little bit tricky to get it started but once you get it lined up it should screw it to place. It took me a few tries too.

    Can it only be used in rooms with windows?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to vent the hot air out of the back of the unit. So you need a hole in the wall of some kind. I put one in my garage and connected it to vent. If you don't have a window or a hole in the wall you could put a dryer vent in your wall and vet it that way.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I opened the drain plug to see if there was any water in there and it was empty. If you run it in AC mode it will circulate the moisture inside of the unit to cool the compressor. These things get pretty hot inside when you run the AC and should evaporate most of the moisture so it shouldn't really fill up. But if you run it in Dehumidify mode it will fill up really fast and you will need to connect the drain hose when you use the Dehumidify mode. I don't get a lot of humidity where I live. So I only run it in AC mode.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's too bad. When these units are running in AC mode they get pretty hot inside the unit and should evaporate all of the water in it. But when you run it in dehumidify mode you have to have a hose attached to the drain on the middle of the back unit while it is running. The other thing that can cause the AC compressor to shut off is if there is not enough power getting to the AC. If some other appliances are running on the same breaker it can overload it and cause the AC to shut off. That can cause the AC compressor to stop working as well.
