    That C130 you toured has led a very versatile life. It was USCG 1721 for a long time, and wore the rotodome while it was in Clearwater, but it also did time with the Marines, Air Force and Navy before returning to USCG service in Clearwater. When we got it back it had that new car smell compared to our 30,000 hour airframes, but it wore a ratty partially brush painted 2 tone Navy paint scheme. Fantastic bird.

      FWIW: I was at Air Station Miami from 1988 to 1995. One year while I was there the radome Herk flew in.
      I was looking forward to going aboard and seeing it from the inside. UNFORTUNATELY I had a flight that day -- HU-25 Falcon -- and by the time we got back to Opa Locka the C-130 had left.

    Low level. Mountainous terrain. Smoke obscured visual. Swirling high winds and wind sheer. Extremely dangerous work. The pilots that fly those C-130's do the impossible first and the tough stuff later. God bless those men and women. Mahalo Juan!

    I can tell you after working with ALL the big birds the C-130 is definitely top shelf. Possibly the ONLY aircraft more badass than the BUFF, which is saying something. There’s just something about that big slab wing, the deep drone of four turboprops, and the sheer presence of a Hercules that commands the attention of all the sense. The sooner they join the fleet the better. To turn a phrase: Summer, is coming.

    • @jonokiller
      @jonokiller ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Winter came and made everything green. Summer is coming, to turn everything brown and flammable.

    I was flying back from Cleveland on Tuesday, through Denver. When I flew from Denver to Cleveland, I sat next to a friend of yours. C. Brown. Can't remember his first name. The fact that I mentioned Flight Aware, started the conversation. Then I asked him if he followed the blancolirio channel! 😂 We had a great conversation the whole way home! 😊

    Love the C-130. My dad was an Air Force captain on the C-130H in the 80s, and I got quite a few memorable flights on the jump seat as a kid. Sometimes I was allowed to sit on his lap and "control" the aircraft. One thing I remember very well is the amazing view you get. It's like a greenhouse cockpit. Amazing aircraft.

      The 130's at Visalia belong to an outfit called TBM, Inc.: TBM operated out of Sequoia Field since the 1950's, but were kicked out by Tulare County in about 2004, because the county was charging them almost nothing in rent!
      They're a contractor to Cal Fire, but their 130's were grounded from fire fighting, after the one that crashed in...the Lassen fire (? - the one that the wings came off of).
      They weren't the operators of that aircraft, but I don't believe they've fought a fire since.
      Not sure where they're based now, but I did see one of their 130's (the camo, ex ANG bird) at Mojave, not long after the move.
      They have at least 5 or 6 130's, and several S-2's.

    It's lovely to see some snippets of hangar footage from McClellan! Even though I live over 6000nm away in the southwest Pacific, I too am getting familiar with the state wide Airtac bases and that at the McClellan AFB, as my company is adding value to improving the communications systems across CalFire's radio communications network to keep the hangar ground crews in contact with the operations centre! The World's training bace for C-130's is Little Rock Air Force Base. They are almost constantly in the air around here. Their sound is unmistakable. It sounds like Freedom!
    Arkansas just got the F-35 training mission along with F-16's for our allies. Thats an even better sound!

    I have property near the Jacksonville Arkansas Airforce Base that is the flight path of the C 130 training area so we see them regularly and use to watch them do touch and goes at the now Clinton International in Little Rock (before 9-11 ruined access). They are true work horses. It was also interesting to see a brief appearance of Mr Brown a video of Lake Oroville from the Space Wind channel.
