    I plan to persevere with this sewing machine in spite of your negative reviews. I got it as a birthday present in 2014 and just this week decided to take a peek at it and then looking it up on TH-cam. To each their own I reckon.👌

      I agree. Individual choice is important. My experiences is just comparing the machine to many others.

    Thanks for your honest evaluation of this machine Abi. You made some really good points and I feel like you're on the sewer's side. Constructive and backed up comments. Glad you're doing these reviews. Stay safe : )

    Thanks for the review Abi. I have been intrigued by Janome machines because, as you say, they seem to be heavily advertised, and those who own them seem to think they are a cut above us poor mortals with Brothers or Singers etc 😢 After watching this review I certainly don't feel I'm missing out anymore. I really appreciate your reviews and trust your educated opinion.

      I am in love with my Brother, it's two years old and on its way to 2,000,000 stitches. I feel that I'm not going to live long enough to get full use of all of its features. I'm still finding new ones .

    I find your unboxing videos so helpful with choosing a new machine. Definitely swaying towards the Necchi NC-204D

    I seriously considered this because I really like the overall form of just having one button to press (which shows the recommended presser foot right there). No having to look up a booklet and then select a mode button and then press three or four times, and then consult your booklet for a stitch number and enter that. No checking the display three or four times. Ergonomically, the IDEA of this is great.
    I don’t need a couple of dozen fancy stitches plus a Cyrillic alphabet, pretending to be 300 stitches: this would do me fine. But I keep hearing that the build quality lets it down.

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really don’t like this machine. A number of ladies have brought it in for lessons or for repair. It’s really not the best of machines. The quality of stitching is let down by the poor quality machine. I’m sorry but good on you to keep researching x

    Have the same issue with the table. Still happy with the machine. Like the start/stop button. Very useful instead of a foot pedal

    Thanks ABI, love your honesty, I used my sister's Janome some years ago to repair a garment for her, I was so unimpressed that I went home and got my own machine, at that time a 30 stitch babylock which I loved, my grand daughter is now it's proud owner and she loves it too. She put aside the new machine I'd bought her in favour of 'Mrs babylock'.

    Do you want to solve extension table problem? Just flip it and adjust the rubber screws to the height you need

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it’s the blending of the table to the free arm. The arm of the machine curves down and the table is straight. You can’t ever get it flush so sewing slips down into the dip and it’s just frustrating after a while

  • @TodayinJensSewingRoom

    My US Singer 9960 has the same table - and it doesn't sit flush either. But it does have adjustable feet so at least it can be level. This Janome looks like everything I normally use - the basic utility stitches, a few buttonholes, and the thread cutter. This would work for me, someone who sews all the time both garments and the odd craft here and there, very well. Just goes to show that you don't need a big fancy machine to create beautiful things. That said - I don't think I'll ever buy a plastic machine again. That "feels cheap" thing really bothers me. I agree 100% that Janome (and Singer) need to concentrate at least as much (if not more) on technology than they do on marketing. 👍

    I was really curious to see what do you think about this machine as I got one myself. I wouldn’t pay that money for it but I got it second hand for about 225£ so it was an acceptable price to pay. Before this one I had a very very basic Singer so i enjoy a lot of useful features that this one has like needle up/down, adjustable needle position, needle threader or the scissor button.. if I will need to change this machine I think I would go for a Pfaff one, the dual feed system sounds really interesting. Thanks for great videos :)

    The extension table is a real letdown. I love the lack of stitches and options I would never use. This machine is really user friendly. My computerised 30 year old Bernina has loads of decorative stitches. I used them once 30 years ago when I had just bought the machine.

    "There's nothing special about it" Looks at my basic JL one 🤔. Looking quite fancy in comparison (that's saying something isn't it haha) 🤣.
    Thanks as always for the detailed and honest review. So helpful for gathering info on what to look for when you've saved enough.

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough! But honestly, it looks way better than it performs and it isn't much better than the JL110 - that is an honest opinion.

      @@AbisDen The fact it is nearly 4 times as much as what I paid for mine is quite shocking. Thanks for the info. I know to avoid Janome in future (unless you've reviewed one which is decent).

    Glad I didn’t go and buy one of these now , Thankyou for your honest review, seems just like a digital version of my 5024, has all same stitches etc. Would you say the Necchi NC204d is better than this? ☺️

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the 5024 (over 20 years old) and it’s probably superior to this. I prefer the Necchi model to this, yes.

    You don't know what you're talking about, the leg on the extension table wasn't out properly that's why it was wobbly. Learn to use things properly before you go canning them! And who cares about the different plastic?? Picky, picky, picky. I've got this machine, it's fine.

      So the extension table definitely can be levelled? I’m in New Zealand and am seeing this model for sale by online dealers. Was considering getting it, and the extension table and hard case are a real bonus. Can’t really believe that it doesn’t actually fit.

      My wife has this machine with easily adjustable feet. I agree that this lady should do a lot more research before she shares her opinion. Using the the foot pedal at the same time as the controls was a no no.

  • @Normit08

    That table looks very similar to the one that came with my bernette(made by Janome) maybe they have a generic table they use for all machines or put the wrong table in the box.

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mitchell, I hope you’re keeping well :) I almost bought the Bernette, but the chap in the shop was pushing the Janome - so I said I’d come back - then when I was in John Lewis, they were pushing the Janome - so I had to buy it - Does the table fit your machine well?

    I’d love to see a review of the Juki dx5-7, home machines. I’m considering investing in one. Do you have a view on them?

    • @AbisDen
      @AbisDen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s absolutely funny - i was looking at those yesterday - but the price bracket is out of the range I am comparing, the machine is exactly the same as the Brother and Babylock - so its one of those scenarios... is its price band higher because it’s better? Or because its a Juki - we can only see.

    • @Evohoy
      @Evohoy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that’s interesting. Which version of Brother machine is it the same as? Ive never owned a. Baby lock, always thought of them as a US brand. I’m in Northern Ireland, and dealerships are limited so when restrictions end i may take a trip over to a big sewing machine stockist and spend some time considering all the options.

    I have this machine. I don't have the problem with the table that you did but that's the only good thing I can say about this machine. It's a disaster, it just never sews right no matter what I do. It won't sew thick fabric and piecing is difficult if you need to sew over even nesting seams. It skips stitches and chews fabric. Cleaning, rethreading, new needles, adjusting tension etc. make no difference. Every few seconds it beeps and won't sew again until it's turned off and on again. It cost me $700 and for what, junk. Would I buy Janome again? Probably not.
