I grew up in Monmouth County but moved to Florida decades ago. I love coming up to visit for a weekend, but I can't imagine living there again. Taxes are obscene. Property taxes plus state income tax would cost me an extra $30k a year with same salary and house value. That's bonkers.

I’m from New Jersey and although there are some good things about NJ the bad outweigh the good. The high cost of living, high taxes, and never ending traffic are bad enough, but when you have to pay for a day at the beach is the last straw. I remember Tom Kean Sr when he was Governor made the most ridiculous commercial for NJ’s beaches. “ Come to New Jersey we have the most beautiful beaches in the world.”
NJ’s beaches are not that nice that you have to pay to go on them. There are a lot more beaches in states on the Atlantic coast that are way better than NJ’s and a lot of them you don’t have to pay to get on. To name some . Virginia, North and South Carolina and of course Florida!

Paying to go on the beach is a pain in the ass, I agree. But I don’t think that’s the issue. The issue is the system from the top and that our taxes need to be as high as they are to create a need to charge for the beach in the first place. I’ve been to beaches all over the world and would argue that some of our NJ beaches are among the top in the world. Not most of them but some like LBI definitely are.

@@TheTenHoeveRealtyGroup This sounds like BS. NJ has a $ 212 billion dollar deficit and that's why they over tax everyone for every little thing. It has gotten totally out of hand and people or leaving becuase they are fed up with it all.

Expensive, crowded, crazy traffic, ridiculous taxes, you can’t pump your own gas, attitude really rude. Weather is a consideration, humidity in summer is high, expect icy roads and people who don’t know how to drive in icy conditions. No new jobs in Monmouth county because of low corporate growth.

@@TheTenHoeveRealtyGroup At least prior to the pandemic you have viable options if you wanted to move to another state but with the way the country is going you really have to know the area you are moving to and that's if you can even afford it.
