Hi Joanna. Your openness about about the problems you face and how they affect you is a touchstone for others. Post when it suits you. Kind thoughts and many smiles from down south. 🌻🌻🌻
Joanna, truly, you are doing a top job with your livestock care and management. As you said there is the odd one with a limp or a dirty behind etc but IMHO with the steps you are taking you will certainly soon have those problems well and truly under control. Overall (and I mean this) the flock look so very good and are a credit to you, never doubt that. The financial outlays sure are a never-ending constant in farming eh. In my 48 years in the game with the usual crap prices offered for livestock and produce you often feel like you're just turning money over, year in and year out, with precious little at the end of the day for yourself. As always Joanna I read the description and honestly, how you are feeling exactly mirrors how I've been all my farming life. Like you I know all too well, the anxiety, apprehension and melancholy that running a farm can bring on. Also at times I've had to contend with downright nasty unwanted advice and comments from certain pig ignorant, insufferable PITA people who don't even run a farming operation, although not on the scale you've had to deal with. Sadly there is no magic bullet fix for the above mentioned dilemmas. I know it's different for everyone but FWIW the things that have helped me deal with many bad times and bad days are at the end of the day thinking about happy memories of the past (Dad) and the true positives in my life like the love and unwavering support of Lea-ann my "significant other" of more than 33 years also my 2 now adult children. I'm also blessed to have some close and trusted friends. I often think of them all at the end of the bad days and it does help me to cope. Ahh it’s all good fun with sheep 😅🤦♂. Glad it was confirmed to be lead poisoning, at least you know now for future. Been bloody cold here today, even slung a thermal on!🤦♂
Some good looking lambs. Has been a bit of fly strike about. I think due to the wet weather. Does the lead in that field make it unusable now? Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.
The vet gave us some Advice and options for the lead area / cover it up, fence it off. Keep young stock out etc !! Yea fly strike came earlier than I was expecting but we caught it in good time as I was prepared for it
No need to feel disheartened at all, your doing extremely well with the lambs, it can be like that, one day your pleased with them next day not, well that’s what I’m like anyway. Lambs seem to be lacking little bit of milk as are my own which is very frustrating albeit that last batch in the video had much fuller bums, great feeling seeing them like that!. Curious as to how your bought in replacements faired against your own ewes, better lambs etc? All young lambs need a dose at usual intervals regardless what they preach these days, I was doing samples and (yeah they need a dose) was the reply every time so would save on the samples until it’s evident that there could be an issue like you just had, it won’t take a genius to spot it. I was on a strategy of not dosing if no dirty bums, big mistake and cost me a nice crop of lambs. Dose now at 7 or 8 weeks and then 6 weeks as they are grazing well by then. I do a sample after that if I’m not content with them. If you don’t mind me saying I think dad would be pretty chuffed with his girl.
Thank you, yes I definitely think samplings is useful to do. And in this case To check if the wormer worked or if it was the right action. The lambs in the triplets are all going to be getting less milk but Iv tried to make up for it by feeding the ewes and giving lambs some creep. The twins are looking a lot better, there were so many 3s this time a bit of a nightmare for workload
@@DaleFarm good for you Jo and Nick, it will make a huge difference when you get to selling time, with the price of lambs this year. It would probably pay you well to creep feed them 30+kg lambs and get them away when the price is up.
Hiya... Sorry to change the subject! But can you post some more photos... Like I've mentioned before you really take fantastic photos... Wish you all the best.. Take care... 👍❤️
You think that's loud Johanna you should try feeding pigs! once they hear the feed coming the screaming and squealing starts! you both are doing a great job, it's bloody hard work and the losses are hard to take, sometimes you wonder why you do it? It's just in the blood I think, if you were sane you wouldn't do it!
Sheep seem so much more work than cows. Can that field with the lead mine under it be put to any other use or is it out of bounds now? As someone who's looking into getting into farming in either Derbyshire or Yorkshire after doing it for years in Africa, this contaminated grass thing worries me a bit.
Good to hear you found out for sure it was lead poisoning and that you had already gotten that field cleared so that there was no more contamination. Does that mean you won’t ever be able to use that field for anything with livestock?
Give us a good reason for not weaning an getting them on creep whats your excuse for not weaning right now at that moment because they are big enough to wean
Everything has been against you this year , weather has been awfull and depressing , it’s been a long cold spring and wet but hope thing go better from now on , it’s all this global warming , rubbish , anything to tax you more
Thank you , yeah it’s not been a great 12 months …. Wonder if this is just how it will be now. Weather makes a huge difference and it is mostly miserable in the uk
I pray 🙏 that you and Nick have a much better 12 months ahead fer your farm. I just thought of something that may save your back. Have the race go uphill to a Platform so that you would not need to bend over because they would be at your height.
IDK WHY SOFT FARMERS WONT WEAN LAMBS WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE 80-100lbs STILL ON MOMS TEET IS RIDICULOUS Because you can wean at 6 weeks they wean dogs at 6 weeks dogs are way smaller than sheep at 6 weeks there’s no excuse to wean
Also once lambs cut teeth they should be weaned because they will be biting ewes nipples an destroy the utters then you cull the ewe because of your negligence
10:39 Next time yu foot bath make sure you get you a stick to knock them off of climbing on other lambs back because they aren’t standing in the foot bath
Better leaving them alone where possible as they will stop climbing and you won’t spend the day with a stick 🤷♂️ Not always possible especially when trying to film and do other jobs. The ones holding a foot up are getting treated separately by the looks of it. Each to their own but I think they are doing a good job with their setup.
Another cracking video Joanna @ Nick the ewes and lambs are looking great 👍👍👍

you both are doing a great job, it's bloody hard work and the losses are hard to take, sometimes you wonder why you do it? It's just in the blood I think, if you were sane you wouldn't do it!
Bizzy bizzy youv got plent ther lol ok nice vid youz 2 be safe
Thank you Lee!
Sheep seem so much more work than cows. Can that field with the lead mine under it be put to any other use or is it out of bounds now? As someone who's looking into getting into farming in either Derbyshire or Yorkshire after doing it for years in Africa, this contaminated grass thing worries me a bit.
The lead is likely to cause occasional problems, too much rain or too dry makes it worse apparently
Best thing is to fence them off or cover them over
@@DaleFarm Thank you, it looks like the sort of thing I'll be adding to the "must test for" list when I start looking at land.
What was the problem with the lambs that died
Good to hear you found out for sure it was lead poisoning and that you had already gotten that field cleared so that there was no more contamination. Does that mean you won’t ever be able to use that field for anything with livestock?
Younger animals are at risk more than mature ones so definitely not a good choice for lambs or calves but for sheep without lambs would be fine
👀🙄🐾👍
Should have ear protection on Another good video 👍
Thanks Allan! Yes I should I put my noise cancelling headphones on but I think they would fall off as they are quite big !
Fantastic work guys 😀👌👍⭐️
Thank you Arthur
oops, hit srnd...or ear plugs.😊
😀😀
Give us a good reason for not weaning an getting them on creep whats your excuse for not weaning right now at that moment because they are big enough to wean
Haha I could give you several reasons
That shed is in bad need of a clear out a lot of space being lost to fire wood and possible rubbish
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure !
can you please put up a video of your lovely tidy place ......!
Not sure what to say to this
10:39 Next time yu foot bath make sure you get you a stick to knock them off of climbing on other lambs back because they aren’t standing in the foot bath
An as we see there is not 1 lamb weaned which is pathetic thats what happens when you got soft farmers
I don’t think it’s pathetic , the lambs are 8 weeks old now , some are less and at the time of the video it was 3 weeks ago …!
you might want to invest in some ear protection 😊 ear phones or ea
Haha yes!!
Excellent video again thanks for sharing lambs are looking great 👍take care
Thank you Terry
