    Boromir isn't jealous of frodo. Hes desperate after a life time of fighting mordor to have his people be safe. The ring takes your greatest desire and turns it against you. It's why hobbits can resist it so well. They don't desire power.

      There is an awesome scene in the third book, where Sam is briefly in possession of the Ring, and it tries to tempt him to take it for himself. And the only temptation it has to offer him is turning Mordor into the biggest garden in the world.
      And among other reasons, he refuses because he doesn't need a garden that big.

      Sean Bean's performance in this movie should've gotten him an Oscar nomination, he managed to make Boromir far more sympathetic and thus more tragic than he's ever been portrayed. Sean talked about this scene on the DVD commentary, how Boromir's viewpoint was basically "my people are out there dying while all of you are sitting around talking". That sense of desperation to help his people really shines through. And even with all that, when the council's decision became clear, his response was wonderful. "If this is the will of the council, then Gondor will see it done."

    Arwen (hot elf lady) and Aragorn (Strider) have known each other for a long time, because Aragorn grew up in Rivendell. The Elf Lady Luthien he sings of and Beren, the mortal man she fell in love with, happened a loooong time ago, its like a legend. Its the most famous tragic love story in middle earth and Tolkien wrote Luthien in the image of his wife Edith.

    • @Big_Tex
      @Big_Tex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Luthien and Beren are also Arwen's great-great grandparents. And also Aragorn's ancestors x 30 or 40 generations. And of course what makes that campfire scene poignant is, Aragorn knows that if Arwen marries him, she's condemning herself to death also.

    Wholesome story:
    Viggo Mortensen(Aragorn)adopted two of the horses from the film, and gifted the white one at 5:32 to Liv Tyler's stunt double since she bonded with it.

      Apparently that white one was a very expensive stallion too. Some big wig executive at New Line wanted him, so the stunt double, who was also the onset Horse Trainer for all 3 films, knew that even if she could scrape together the money, she'd get outbid. Viggo showed up and outbid the Exec, then presented it to her as a gift because, according to him, "It was her horse."

    Boromir doesn't have that big of an Ego honestly, he's one of my favorite characters, he's not a bad guy, he's just tragic. He just carries a tremendous burden, he's been fighting a hopeless war and seeing his people die. He lacks the wisdom and experience of say an Aragorn or a gandalf, so he isn't as weary of the ring as them, Boromirs tale is a sad one.

      Boromir is the only "normal Man" in the Fellowship, and I love how he is in the books. Always seeking to help, to move forward and overcome obstacles such as the delay at Caradhras, watching out for those in the Fellowship he knows are not as hardy as he. Maybe a bit less wise, less skilled in his estimations and assessments, but earnest and true in his efforts.
      Boromir's the most relatable, at least to me.

    To Isildur’s credit, standing within mount doom where the ring is at its peak of power, resisting the call of the ring is basically impossible. So him choosing to not destroy it then isn’t a ding in his personality. Even Elrond would have likely failed to throw it in the fires had he been the one holding it.
    Boromir… he is an outstanding and honorable guy… but Gondor has been basically single-handedly keeping the orcs of Mordor contained through constant war. The country is dying out slowly from the attrition. The ring is preying on that fear that his country will be destroyed, and his desire to protect his people from the forces of Mordor.

    • @WilliamMoses355
      @WilliamMoses355 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On Isildur: maybe? There are a lot of factors that go into how quickly the ring can corrupt someone, and we don't have enough data to say how corrupt Isildur was to begin with, or whether Mount Doom-proximity was the biggest factor for him. I might have expected him to have an easier time resisting, as he had the ring for minutes previously, and Sauron was defeated so handily.

      It is easy to see Boromir as a pseudo villain based on what we see from the first film. But if we had the full context and understand the true pull the ring can have over Man, Boromir becomes an honorable character. The exchange between Aragon and Boromir become a lot more emotional once you see him as an honorable man instead of a weak one.
      A society at constant war protecting the rest of Middle earth free of charge will weigh on its people and can build up within them far more resentment than Borormir ever conveyed.

    • @k.v.7681
      @k.v.7681 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There's also, in books, the death of his brother that plays a part. A "better" man, the shining heir, killed during the final siege. Isildur is propulsed forward in this war, and bittered by it. It's sort of a reverse Boromir/Faramir. None of these characters are villains. They're just, well, human.

    10:36 The song Strider/Aragorn was singing (the one Frodo asked about) was the Lay of Lúthien. Lúthien was an elf, the daughter of King Thingol of the realm of Doriath. There are a lot of parallels drawn between the stories of Beren and Lúthien and Aragorn and Arwen. Lúthien and Beren, a mortal man, fell in love, and she gave up her immortality to be with him. They are actually ancestors of both Aragorn and Arwen (albeit much more distantly in Aragorn's case).
    Aragorn is the distant descendant of Arwen's uncle Elros (her father's brother), who chose the Doom of Man (i.e., mortality), while his brother Elrond chose the way of the Elves.

When Strider picks up the Morgul-blade, the point is broken off, and the fragment is gradually working inward toward the heart. During their journey, Sam asks Strider, "What is the matter with my Master?...His wound is small, and it is already closed. There's nothing to be seen but a cold white mark on his shoulder."

      I've been going through a reread and I was surprised to notice that it seems the Nazgul in fact cannot directly harm a mortal who's not in the shadow realm. I.e, they couldn't hurt Frodo until he put his ring on; that made him vulnerable. That's not how the movie portrays things but I think that's how the books tell it. Not entirely sure, I could be wrong -- I think Tolkien might not have entirely sorted that out either.

Like Boromir said, his people had been spilling their blood to protect all of Middle-earth from the forces of Mordor for years. That's because Gondor is literally on the doorstep of Mordor, sharing a border with it that moves back and forth between the two. Gondor kept getting weaker while Mordor kept getting stronger, and Boromir felt he had to do something to avoid their inevitable destruction.

His brother looks up to him, the men he led while fighting mordor loved him and wouldve followed him through hell. He was actually a really good guy. The problem was his father had incredibly high expectations of him and was probably quite abusive to him and his brother. Whats more is that he knows he isnt the king so he is terrified of the fact that so many people depend on him to lead and it is that fear the ring uses to corrupt him. It isnt something that you can control either, and thats what they show in these three movies and I love it.

    There are two dimensions in middle earth: Physical dimension and Wraith dimension. The Nazgul appear in both, though don't belong to either. Frodo can see the wraith dimension when the puts the ring on. In the book, the Nazgul are even more terrifying. The first one gets off his horse and slowly crawls towards where the hobbits are hiding (it's the hiding under the tree scene in the film), they ambush one of frodo's associates, who had been hiding the hobbits in a house, and they sneak around in the shadows at night in Bree.

    So, the whole problem with the Ring is that it was made by Sauron, who is pretty much the Chief of all things evil, after his Master, Melkor (also called Morgoth, he's responsible for the creation of, amongst other things, the dragons and the Balrog the fellowship faces at the bridge of Khazad-Dum) was defeated and banished into the void.
    (Important side note: Melkor is not fully dead, he's just in the void, waiting for the guards at the border to fail in their duty so he can creep in again. At this point, he would be slain for good by either Túrin Turambar with his famous black sword or by Eönwë as mentioned in "the Hiding of Valinor", after which the world, Arda, would collapse and be remade to start the cycle anew)
    Anyway, back to the ring. That thing is so full of Sauron's essence that it is pretty much a manifestation of pure evil, and it preys upon all greedy beings within reach. That's why it doesn't hurt Frodo as much, and also why the Hobbits make for the best ringbearers. They are incredibly simplistic, what use would they have of Power? all they care about is their life in the shire.
    Those who carry the ring, however, are slowly corrupted no matter their mindset. You can see that with Bilbo in a way, but much more with Frodo at the end of their Journey to Orodruin. His neck is bleeding, the chain that carried the ring has literally cut its way into his flesh as a result of the burden that is carrying the ring.
    Another great way to show how potently evil the ring is is by looking at those who actually carry it.
    Notice that Frodo has to rip the ring out of Boromir's hands, how it fell off of Isildurs finger and how Bilbo turns his hand to let the ring fall out of it. In the latter example, Bilbo does this because he knows that he cannot willfully leave the ring behind. It's not possible, he tried twice with the envelope but he just cannot do it. It's simply too strong. He has to let gravity take it from him because he himself is physically unable to leave it behind.

    Boromir is actually the most experienced fighter apart of the Fellowship. He had spent all of his adult life fighting against the forces of Mordor, to defend Gondor and the rest of Middle Earth. So his desire for power is to end Mordor once and for all. Also, none can resist the will of the One Ring. No matter how strong your own will is, it will eventually take hold and dominate you if you're in the Ring's presence for too long. The only character to be completely unaffected by the Ring is Tom Bombadil, but he unfortunately wasn't included in the films.

Legolas was older than the others, but still did not have the same amount of fighting experience as Boromir. Not much is actually given about Legolas, other than him being a prince and from Mirkwood. He would have seen a few conflicts with Orks and other creatures, but not in massive battles as Boromir had.

    Legolas is super-nimble because his "connection" to Middle-earth is fading (long story), so effectively he weighs very little (but is still as strong as ever). That's why he doesn't sink in the snow like the others do.

    Boromir is actually much more sad. He comes from Gondor, seeking an end to mordor and peace for his people. The ring is the only thing that can bring that in his eyes. When he first set eyes on it, he saw that which he wanted most (as the ring uses peoples fears and ambitions). He just wanted to save his people.

    everyone seems to forget the part where gandalf talks/whispers to the "moth" while he is on top of that tower. the "moth" went and got the eagle to save him. In the book, the "moth" is his wizard buddy Radagast the Brown (also Will Byers' password to Castle Byers in Stranger Things is Radagast which Wynona Ryder knows)

    I was waiting the whole time for her to react to Bilbos face turning monstrous when he sees frodo with the ring and she was to busy talking to the camera and only saw his back as he lunged. What a let down.

    Many people see Isildur as a greedy dickhead, astleast those that just see the movies and not watch videos or read about Isildur, but the backstory is a lot deeper and will be explored in the upcoming lord of the rings series.
    The truth is deeper than that as Isildur was like that time period version of Aragorn, he was a famous hero to men and even other races and fought for good, trying to help much people and was a really kind person.
    But what changed was because of the ring as the race men are easily corrupted(as one of their flaws of their race)by it and lose themself even by just seeing it, becoming an entire different person, especially if you hold the ring literally in your hand like Isildur did.

      The new show may try to attempt to explain things but since it's a pile of woke garbage I doubt it will be able to do so. You'd actually have to respect the source material to explain things properly.

    Just a head's up; in the comments of your next LOTR video, you will have at least several dozen people telling you that Viggo Mortensen really broke three toes kicking that helmet.
    Edit, after watching this video: Ok, maybe the one after the next.

      she was just having a laugh mate. plus it wouldnt matter anyways cause all the humans with power are men anyways so man you'd have to worry about in relation to the ring would be a male anyways so the whole point is moot. don't be so serious.

    One thing about Hobbits is they are not ambitious people. So the ring can’t affect them drastically.
