Oh, I had been to Marugame Castle with family and grandparents years ago it was foggy but unexpectedly surprised that it is the highest stone wall castle of Japan. Happy Father's Day to Mr. Maki and your father in America, Miss Charlotte.
Thank you for introducing Marugame Castle. This is where I want to go. It is good that the inside of the main castle is still made in wood. Unfortunately, some famous castles in Japan are renovated and made not in wood.
Yes, the inside is original to its rebuild in the 1600's, and they have not upgraded or added anything since then! (Of course things have been repaired and maintained, though.)
Hi Chako, Thank you for educating me again on sites to visit in Japan. I didn’t know anything about the Marugame castle. It’s interesting to see such a tiny castle keep or tenshukaku sitting on top of such an impressive mass of stone walls. The morale of the story is to stay in good physical shape before venturing up to the castle, I guess. Also, I’m wondering if you guys got to see the Seto-oohashi bridge there. Anyhow, I am so happy to see you guys having a great Golden Week vacation without being bothered by too many other vacationers. Thanks again for sharing. Happy Father’s Day, Maki! Shin from Colorado
Yes, I was not expecting the climb up there to be quite so steep, but it was worth it for the memories, alone! I cannot imagine going up and down there during the feudal era wearing armor, etc., but people were built stronger back then I guess... We drove over the Seto-Oohashi the following day, so stay tuned for the last part of our adventures in Shikoku next weekend!
I heard Marugame castle for the first time in my life. All I heard the name Marugame was only Udon chain store. there is very very high stone wall around this castle I would say going to this castle tower is literally climbing. So, your climbing might be very hard. If I were you, I would give up to climb. I'm looking forward to the day that I can watch your last story of Sikoku.
Yes! Marugame Udon comes from Marugame City, so now you know the origin! It was rather like climbing- I don't think I'm ready to climb Fuji-san yet since this hike was challenging! 😅

Wow! It's amazing you were there before! I'm so surprised since it's kind of a minor attraction- but how nice for you!

Beautiful castle town. Wonderful history, great civilization. The peace and prosperity now are the result of that endeavour.
Yes, truly believe that!

Great Father’s Day present. That is truly an amazing castle, I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Father's Day!
It's going to be hot from now on, so please don't overdo it. I'll come see you again 😊
Luckily we visited here back in early May so it wasn't so hot yet...
