I grew up watching P. Ramlee movies. Those days my father was against watching TV. He preferred us being bookworms. Only in 1974 we got our first TV and that to thanks to the World Cup Finals. My father was actually a football fan. And so we watched the Netherlands versus West Germany where the formidable Johan Cruyff and Johan Neeskens were outfoxed by the nifty Germen striker Gerd Muller.
Coming back to P. Ramlee movies I used to watch them at a friend's house across the road in my housing area. The house was huge and had a very large living room. Could seat 40 people or more. It was like a mini cinema hall with no admission fee. The entire duration we laughed out loudly as P. Ramli and his gang were extremely funny. Malaysians of all races and creed loved P. Ramlee movies. That was an era that is still a joyous memory that cannot be equalled.

Yup. This is the most unprecedented in-depth clip of P. Ramlee by a foreign youtuber i've seen so far. You really went deep into his life bro, much more than most ordinary Malaysians themselves including myself, as if you are living those glamorous times of his. Im 60 and was 9 when the man passed. I still can hear my mom cried out loud from her room upstairs that early morning after listening to the radio when we were ready for school...P. Ramlee dah mati!!! P. Ramlee died!!!

The night before he died his movie played on tv. Many people confessed they cried while watching a scene in the movie where he sing to a fairy princess not knowing that he is not able to stay in her world neither could he bring her into his world. When we received rhe news of his passing we knew that our tears came from the inner knowing that he was leaving us forever!

I've heard about P.Ramlee before, not really into the detail. First, I knew him from one of Malaysia cartoon series it was called 'Upin&Ipin'. I only know him shortly, since the episode of the cartoon didn't give so much explanation about P.Ramlee career, only brief information that he was really famous artist in Malaysia and still now. Thankyou for sharing new information about the entertainment side of Malaysia especially about the Artist there

I've been watching your vlogs for a time now because I think you tell such incredible stories. Even though some of the locations you visited were so commonplace to us, the way you described them gave the impression that your travels were really intriguing. I'm pretty impressed by your selection of sites that are typically off the itinerary, especially for foreign visitors to this country. Examples of such sites include the memorials to Malaysia's first prime minister and P. Ramlee, the country's best actor.
I visited the P Ramlee Memorial for the first time approximately thirty years ago. I can't stop holding my tears while looking at every exhibition, especially the costumes. Even though I found the costume materials were inexpensive and so ordinary, the films he made were incredibly entertaining and left a lasting impression on all of us. His life tale was indeed rather depressing, especially towards the end of his life. For your information, The History Channel also has his life narrative available. I appreciate you creating such a beautiful story about our national heroes so that people can learn about them.

P Ramlee was only appreciated after he died, when he was alive people didn't treat him well as an artist. His career was sabotaged. Royalties for P. Ramlee's films amounting to millions of ringgit per year are not given. The rich are not P. Ramlee's heirs, but the company that produces almost all of P. Ramlee's films. Before he died, he had no food to eat, his story is very tragic.

    P. Ramlee was an all-rounder entertainer. He was a composer, singer, musician, actor, comedian, scriptwriter, film director and everything in between. I think he was the only one-of-a-kind entertainer, not just in Malaysia and Singapore, but in the world.
His career took a nosedive when he moved from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, and he died a pauper. A very tragic end to a very talented person. There is an ongoing legal battle between his descendants and the government of Singapore regarding the claim of his royalties, but so far, nothing fruitful has materialized.
Thanks, Doug, for your showing your interest in one of our nation's "heroes". Save travel.

P ramlee made his mark in Singapore. But the movie studios decided to relocate to hong kong and focus on bigger Chinese market.
Upon returning to Malaysia after the split, he was ignored and disowned by locals in the broadcasting and entertainment and died a pauper!
    He was posthumously honoured.
    Tragic.

CC yes of course. Most Malaysians have because in the 80-2000 it often has re-runs on TV. Boomers got to watch his movies in the cinemas and i heard they came out of the cinema lauging out loud. Also the actors acting as villians are harassed and spit on, which is bad because viewers cannot differentiate between reality and fiction. Gen X and Millenials got to watch on tv and yeah, it is always a topic of discussion the very next day after the TV show. I remember when i was a kid i only got to watch half of the show as it has the news break in-between, but by that time, i was force to go to bed. So it's not until years later, especially on TH-cam, that i finally got to watch the whole movie.

🕓 Time 25:57 ⬅️Pustaka Peringatan P. Ramlee (P. Ramlee Memorial Library) - 🤭 I can stop laughing 😂 when watched you walking under the P. Ramlee memorial direction signage 🤦🏻‍♂️ thinking what a funny typical Planet Doug luck again 😅. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Of cause it is not possible for you to read the sign as it is facing the other way.
🤓 This neighborhood has changed a lot. It was much open with many green such as the open grass field of the chinese vernacular schools Mun Yee, now block by tall wall and cover walkway. You wouldn't see any high rise buildings in the surrounding. This housing area has loss it's homey ambience.

Hi. The Malay community and local Indian the names are actually simple. There is no family name or surname.
First name is.that individual name. Second name is father's name.
    Example Ali Bin Hussin.
    Or Anwar Bin Ibrahim.
You don't call Ali by his father's name. 😂
His father's name could possible Hussin Bin Ahmad.
Again, Ahmad is the Hussin's father. Its straight forward.
Only the local chinese using family name example
    Lee Chong Wei
    Lim Guan Eng
    Wong Ming Git
The first name is actually family name.😊
Do remember Singapore was a part of Malaya until 1965. It was majority Malays back then.
