If I'm making it for myself I enjoy all the variations, but if I'm giving it as a gift I prefer the side hinges. I give a lot of albums to people who aren't familiar with all the special techniques and sometimes they find the fancy albums too difficult to deal with.

Hello Lucy, Thanks for watching! The cutting mat is a Fiskars mat and the ruler does not have a company name on it, so not sure where we got it, sometimes using a ruler that is longer than 12 " is helpful. Happy Paper Crafting!
We got this expert advice from Ginger Ropp of My Sisters Scrapper: " I usually just use the edges of my scissors underneath the center and pop off there top and there the bottom. Sometimes they come off easy and sometimes they can be a little stinker. But it will leave a couple of holes in the chipboard but I just use my bone folder and press the chipboard back down and put tape over it."
Graphic 45 thanks for getting back to me. I think I was just scared to try. I ended up prying the to “buttons” off in the middle of the spine to get it off a bit easier. Was able to get it off with very little damage to the front which was already decorated.
