When we recorded much of this David Palmer penned gem 30 years ago we just never finished it and as usual the label wanted it yesterday and the album "Recently" was really a well balanced group of songs. We were happy to revisit it for "The Complete Goldcastle Masters" as a bonus track and added Allen Hinds brilliant guitar and Maxayn Lewis adding BG vocals, Jerry Peters on B3.................it's interesting that lyrically its as relevant today so here it is (Joan's manager Mark Spector and her Diamonds and Rust office Nancy Lutzow are meticulous archivists so it was wonderful for me to work again with the 2" analogue tapes...two weeks ago Joanie finished her formal touring - her "Fare Thee Well Tour" 60 YEARS of her magnificent career) ................I am delighted that all the masters have been beautifully compiled with Arthur Levy's brilliant notes....................We shall ne'er see her likes again..................Alan Abrahams Producer August 2019
Alan--Thank you. Beautiful. Just astonishing--the Song and the Voice! I gave Ms. Baez some of the best reviews in the U.S. when I was working for various papers in Minnesota--I know what a treasure she is--not only the voice--but the genuine, brilliant and compassionate person. Please try to get her to re-think her retirement!

The land is still, the sea is glistening The morning dove is on the wind Beneath the cedar trees, the endless scar We come to Lebanon to die in spring I am a farmer's son from Israel I am a carpenter from Palestine Allah be praised, Jehovah's will be done Why must I die tonight in Lebanon? This is a season of awakening We should be laughing in the sun We should be planting seeds in the empty fields Instead of dynamite in Lebanon I am a farmer's son from Israel I am a carpenter from Palestine We are the children of the Chosen Ones Why must we die tonight in Lebanon? Tonight we sing again the ancient songs Tonight we sing while widows weep Tonight, while harvest scares the birds of songs Their songs are dying in the streets How many years have there been refugees? People despised, people alone People denied their sovereignty Denied their dignity, denied their home I am a farmer's son from Israel I am a carpenter from Palestine Allah be praised, Jehovah's will be done Why must I die tonight in Lebanon? I am a farmer's son from Iowa I am a carpenter from Maryland We are the evidence of things to come We are the dead tonight in Lebanon Interesting that this was posted on Feb 6 2018 because on Feb 4 1997 two Israeli helicopters ferrying troops into Southern Lebanon crashed killing all 73 on board. Feb 6 1997 was a day of national mourning in Israel. I was out there and it was also my 46th birthday.
