+Systema the ground tile magic was absolutely brutal, when I saw the boss had that as its primary mechanic i groaned out loud. Then I kicked his sorry butt in like 3 tries haha.
The pawn placement in this game's boss battles were generally very well made. I like that you could damage the boss with exploding pawns in EAST, and in NORTH the pawns are very similar to ranged projectiles that you need to hit/ shoot. It goes well with the general style of the fight where the boss launches AOE attacks which you cannot deflect! Oh, and the soundtrack is incredible of course!
So what's the story behind this area? In the east, the little mouse (otter?) people were overran and killed by frog people, in the west, a race of raccoon people fought off those giant things with crystal weaponry but it seems to have corrupted them as well. The crow cult in the north doesn't seem like it had done anything wrong, in fact I feel like you're just killing them for the heck of it.
+Alex Baldwin Essentially, in the north, the avian peoples were peaceful worshippers of some religion, when a fanatic rose to power and threw a coup. In the following events, all of the eggs in the hatchery were destroyed via sacrifice in order for the avian peoples to gain greater powers - supposedly - from Judgement, the final boss of the game. Effectively, they weren't just minding their own business. They were sacrificing their young to the Crystals.
Iyadcqnsdqsl'o Ai² The one bird person who you talks to you - the one who escaped with the one egg - tells you the entire story. And, then immediately after him, once you reach the hatchery, you arrive to a bunch of destroyed nests and broken eggs. The fanaticism is also described in the first....four (I think)....monoliths. A bunch of people in the steam community forums translated all of monoliths into english, and they all shed a few more bits and pieces on the story

The north has the best theme I feel. The higher you climb the more dramatic it gets until you defeat the boss.
More reflective and peaceful than the other zones, I think.

there is a secret area were a npc tells you about how the "great mech chicken" boss is a tyran who killed a ton to get to his position.
