I ran into this for the first time about two weeks ago. I always give my customer a chance to do a “thorough” walkthrough before I leave every job site. Customer calls me back 3 hours later to tell me I missed a spot🤦🏻 a whole 3 hours later!!
These people are everywhere. I notice it when I sell stuff on Facebook. I usually sell at a lower than normal price to get rid of stuff quickly, but I ALWAYS say "This is the lowest price you will get. Price is FIRM. No low-ballers and time-wasters" - yet they STILL text me and offer 30% lower than my price. I just don't reply to them. I gave a guy $20 back one time oin a $120 item just because he didn't even ask for a lower price. Just because it's so rare
I had someone that came into me that brought two cars one was a Honda with very very bad carpet and filled with salt stains and he wanted Negotiate one $40-$80 my mistake was listening to him but I didn’t feel like taking out the sauce in so I die the floorAnd I don’t know where a few days later he found out and left me a one star review I should’ve listen to you and should’ve told him no😭😭😭

Working out in the California heat those customers who constantly offer me water or to use their A/C while doing the interior are the ones I want to keep. It’s those small things that make a difference

Well go to that detailer is my question. I'm not in the business of undercutting other detailers. If you have someone that has a lower price point and you're happy with the results, then more power to you. But chances are, if this were true, you wouldn't be coming to me.
If they have someone that does it for less, tell them to run and book with them immediately. People use these threats as if they are the only customer alive. 😅😅
Ahhh yes....we have had so many crazy stories, man! We cut those people off completely...blacklisted, blocked, and we even warn our other detailer friends in the area to not deal with them! Those types of people make the world HORRIBLE! We have learned to "read" people and how they talk to us and react...we can just tell that they will be trouble. Very good advice man!
I always use the same routine. " I hear ya, Bobby. Money's tight for a lot of folks. Getting your vehicle detailed is more a luxury than a necessity. That being said, maybe it would be best if you wait a month or two to get some money saved up so that you can afford our services. Or, if you're just wanting an average in-and-out detail, Dave's soap and suds down the street is more affordable for budget minded folks like yourself. Our typical client rarely questions our pricing because they come to us based on the quality of service we provide. So, if you're looking for the cheapest detail you can find, I can assure you that you've come to the wrong shop." Sure, saying this can tend to escalate the situation, but it's fun and feels good to "politely" tell some douche that it's not your fault he doesn't have any money! LOL
This is absolutely the worst way to approach a rude costumer, a potential costumer nonetheless. Being petty or bringing yourself down to their level doesn't make you the bigger man.
I had a first time client drop off his car for a basic wash and full interior. As I was wrapping up the wash on the door jams, I opened the door it smelled rankkkkkk!!! So I started pulling trash out and next thing I know there was a mouse running all around ..... I called him and told him to come pick up his car. (He knew about the mouse) Later that day he pulled up and gave me the check for the wash (didn't charge him for anything besides the wash) he left then called me and threatened to sue me for some law he made up called "deceitful labor" and said he put a stop payment on the check..... let's just say I cashed that shit and he was arrested a month later for doing the same to multiple other companies LOL
This is so true. I learnt from an experience I had a few months back. Since then, I've learnt not to budge from my price. If they can't afford the service, then that's tough. They can go elsewhere.
A while back my friend booked a customer and once we arrived and met him I knew he was going to be a headache. First, he lied about having a small car to get a cheaper deal when he really had a suv, but we let it slide. It was supposed to be a simple wash & interior for 45$ but he was asking for headlight restoration, polishing, paint correction, stain removal, and window tinting! We told him we didn't offer any of those services yet but insisted we at least try to remove the stains and do the headlights because he had some kit from auto zone. We ended up just doing what was intended because he had paid us in advance since he left before we finished lol
Customer Bobby wanted you to accept the $200 offer then after you did the work he would refuse payment because of not being satisfied with your work in an attempt to cheat his bill. Very good move on refusing his business. You should put a small sign up thanking your satisfied customers and a mention that you have the right to refuse services to anyone Great job!
Had a guy that just couldn’t understand what a ceramic is. Decided to still go for it because he wanted it. We did it. He picked over everything. A month later he claims it was pointless and doesn’t do anything. So if you can’t get them to understand or see the value In something don’t do business with them!
Very accurate on this video. I've dealt with customers like that before, even to the point where I told a customer when I arrived "this vehicle is in very bad condition and will be this much, they said sure do the best you can". Mind you, the vehicle had no clear coat, bare metal, and the interior was trashed. I did the work and she ended up paying me but then she said her husband who has been Detailing for 20 years, came out and yelled at her and asked for a full refund. Worse 5 hours of my life! Never again will I work with Customers like "Bobby". At the end of the day, you can always say no, if the customer is being rude or arrogant

Oh man. I had this guy ask for scratch repair and I told him weeks beforehand that if it's through the PAINT TO THE PRIMER. There's nothing to correct, but I can blend in the more shallow parts of the damage to an extent; you obviously still want clearcoat left to protect from UVs etc. I told him its going to need to be filled or repainted or filled and sanded and lets just say he wasn't wowed even after the correctable parts were done. People just expect detailers to be body shops are detailer prices sometimes. It's just not feasible

Had a miscommunication with a customer about her vehicle being a certain size, and I quoted $60 for basic outside wash but sense it was suv it was $80, told her I must of not realized it was a suv, and needed to charge extra $20 bucks. She rolled her eyes, and made a huge deal and even said aren’t you just a car washer. I had to explain my worth.

It was just frustrating because $20 dollars is not much of a difference, and the car was also mossy on top, but after she made a big deal I just cleaned the moss as well without charge. Remind you I also was paying a employee, so $80 is nothing. It just frustrates me because she had a landscaper there, and he goes to tell me how people like her treat you good, if you do good work, and the thing is it really solidified the fact that she undervalued me, and did not appreciate it enough. I should of set the standards at first, but oh well I learned big time from that ! It don’t feel good either to be insulted and undervalued.
People like bobby will always leave a 1 star review. I dealt with a married couple and after i refused to do anything for them. They left and not even 5 mins later both of them left a 1 star review. From that moment foward i vowed to refuse such type of customers. That was 6yrs ago and now i have great wonderful customers.

This advice is GOLD I have been in sales and this is so true. The cheap ppl want so much for nothing they will never be satisfied. And they will probably want the whole service done again for free.

Had a customer that wanted a shampoo for his seats and his wife's floors in their vehicles. Typical 85° day in south GA and I always follow the same process as usual and just told him to keep the windows down for drying purposes. He did not do that and he left both vehicles in a garage with the windows up btw and he and his wife went on vacation for a week(leaving both cars in the garage) and a week later I received a phone call of him furiously upset about both vehicles having a sour smell and when I asked if he had did what I told him to do he told me no because he didn't have time and I took to long on the two vehicles anyway. Calmly I asked him could I come take a look at them so I could possibly rectify the situation and he to me no and that he just wanted his money back and basically sending threats and so yeah you're right dealing with customers like that is a major no no!
I washed a car and did an interior with shampoo on seats mats and carpets, hard surfaces, door jambs plus outside wash, windows in and out, tires and wheels for $80 (I’m a new detailer, that’s why I charge cheap at the moment). Finished the job, lady inspected it, she was happy. Yesterday she texts me and says that the ceiling of the inside of her car was dirty plus the visors were dirty, I told her that was not included in the $80 steal, she kept complaining and I finally gave in as to not have a bad review on my brand new business, and I had to drive all the way to her house about 10 miles away and brush the visor and a few things on the ceiling. This guy is right, NOT worth the freaking headache dealing with special customers.
Taking a big picture look at your work can be rather helpful for situations like this. Your eye as a detailer will be drawn to spots you may have missed or need more work. Sometimes taking a step back and inspecting your work is just as important as being right up in there for example, cleaning the absolute heck out of one seat. But hey now you have more experience under your belt with customer expectations and can improve as a detailer from here. I've actually stopped offering anything less than a full service detail for my mobile detailing and charge what I charge for it. It's too easy to have customers complain about missed spots on a budget service or to spend way too much time on a lower paying job.
Bro get them to sign off on the receipt that everything is to their satisfaction. For all you know those spots got their after you cleaned. And to be honest don't worry about reviews....your work will speak for itself

The simple solution and answer would be this. Once realized the customer is not gonna pay what the quote is or try and talk down your pricing. I appreciate you taking the time to bring in your vehicle for a quote, unfortunately that is the price we would charge for this service for this condition this vehicle is in. Im sure it could be done within the price you want to spend but unfortunately it wont be here.
BIG FACTS! You hit the nail on the head you never say it will be 💯% because it won’t be especially paint defects! Johnny will always be a better customer because he knows the Value of what you are doing- and the word of mouth will be higher. Customer Bobby will never be happy and something will always be wrong plus have buddies that do it for less! 🤦🏻♂️ usually with these people I always over quote in the first place just to keep them walkin! What you’ve highlighted here is the difference between negotiating and arguing. There’s always room to negotiate to make them comfortable and become a returning customer. Being rude doesn’t get you anywhere.
Here's a little story you might enjoy: I knew a guy running an auto scrapyard (we call them breakers), who sold parts from crashed cars in a small town near where I lived in Ireland. Not many of them around. A guy we all knew who was always trying to haggle (even in businesses you should not haggle with) needed a part badly to complete a repair. He phoned the breaker who told him it would be 80 euros (it costs a lot more new) - the phone conversation went like this: Breaker: Yeah I have that part; It will be 80 euros Low-baller: I'll give you 50 Breaker: 90 euros Low-baller: Huh? I said, will you take 50 euros? Breaker: 100 euros Low-baller: Ok. I'll give you the 80 euros Breaker: 110 euros Low-baller: OK OK!!! 110 euros!! Hold it for me I will in there in 20minutes The breaker knew no-one else within a 2hr drive had the same part 2nd hand LOL That's how you deal with unwanted hagglers when you don't need the business. Just raise your price every time they try low-ball ;-)
No BS, you want my services or you don't. If you're going to try to take me for a ride, then I'm doing the driving. This is the philosophy to do business by when dealing with these type of people. Great story, love it! Hahaha!
I understand your point on penny pinching 🤏 at the end of the day just don’t go to shops to detail anything and save your money do it yourself, it’s pretty simple to clean your car and paint correction is simple also just polish with foam pads and cutting compound and you’ll have new car after :)
Everything is easy. But you can't expect one person to mow their own lawn, cut their own hair, detail their car, clean their own home, etc... people pay for quality and convenience
man I feel what you gotta go thru, I got a cleaning business and deal with customers like that alot of the time. And then their the good ones that complement the cleaning and pay the price right away, We even work better with those customers. Keep yo head up 🙏🏽💪🏽
I don't believe he is entirely right firstly you should never give a price over the phone unless its a general wash and wax. This is literally why you don't the customer now will have a number in mind and now when you see the job and realize its more work then you expected it makes you look bad. Because they are set on the price from the phone. Now negotiate nicely should never be an issue for these types of work. Honestly its just how you go about it.
Hate arrogant clients that feel entitled for a special deal. We even cut off maintenance clients that don’t respond to us on time and keep us hanging multiple times. Bye bye
I had to start doing work orders on all of my details because of a bad experiance with a customer. I spent 5 hours doing a full interior, exterior detail with a coat of wax on a f350. The customer did not want to pay after I was done because I "did not remove the dent in the bed" or remove the exploded sharpie stain on the tan carpet. And they were going to "take it to a professional" next time. After this I ended up doing a paper work order with a walk around and write down every ding and scratch on the vehicle before I touch it. Also I do not do any under the hood work due to liability issues.

I'm usually charging $100-$150 for a full detail. Wash and wax, Interior shampooed and dressed, the whole package. I dont want to rip anyone off but every detail I do, I feel like I'm really undercutting myself on the price. Some people say "wow that's not bad at all" and then some say "wow that's alot for a car cleaning" so I'm kind of stuck in between. But after 5-7 hours of busting my butt in 95 degree heat and only making close to $20 hr, it's definitely disappointing
Bro i feel you on this. I used to feel like i was ripping them off until i found out that these customers are never gonna keep their car clean, takes me 4-5 hrs instead of 2 hrs maximum, & working in the heat plus are OCD skills to make their car look brand new out the factory
@@charliek6371 that's very true. The vehicles I detail haven't been cleaned in a long time. And I live in rural Missouri, so most of the vehicles have been down gravel roads and are filthy. Makes me wonder what other guys would charge for these kind of details
Ya bro that’s way too cheap! The customers that say that’s too expensive are exactly what you need! Because those are the customers you do not want! My starting price for only interior details start at $220 and can cap out at $499 if it is that bad
I own a Mobile Auto Glass Replacement/Repair company with 5 veteran technicians. I have customers who are willing to pay my above average prices because they trust my staff and my lifetime warranty. Everytime I get a potential customer on the phone who starts asking for a discount, I immediately and kindly tell them that I do not discount because the experience and skill my technicians who have been in this industry for 20+ years is priceless. If you'd like a lower rate, there are plenty of new companies/independent contractors online who I know will charge you half the rate and out forth half the skill.....you paid $75k for your Mercedes Benz, don't you want quality service and warranties to leave your vehicle in good hands? I almost always decline their offer and wish them luck. Moral of the story is, DONT FORCE YOURSELF TO TAKE JOBS AND NEVER DISCOUNT YOUR LABOR!
Into aircraft detailing, I advertise the following " If you're not fully satisfied with my work, the detailing project is on me Free of charge period" in the past 6 years after servicing well over 700 airplanes only one customer tried to be a smart ass, we tried working with him the results were flawless, no matter what we did his mind was made up, and after 9 hours of torturous hard work by 3 guys I happily honored my word and let him have it for Free and blacklisted. A year later just as he was trying to sell his airplane and wanting that flawless detail job, he called to setup an appointment needless to say that phone call lasted 5 seconds and a quick hang-up.
Last month a lady came in for a detail and we did a pretty good job on it. 7 days later the same lady called my boss and said that we did terrible on the detail and she demanded that we redo her detail for free. She came in later that day and her car was trashed. I had actually taken pictures of it the first time because I was so impressed with how it turned out and I noticed that the car had driven 2,400 miles since her detail the week prior. It was a little too late to cancel the detail because we had already started redoing the detail when I noticed it. She was happy with how it turned out when we gave the car back to her. She then called my boss again about 5 days later and she claimed that we missed a bunch of spots and my boss basically told her to screw off and never come back Lol.
I do Wraps as well as detailing. I had a customer wanting me to change my warranty/service agreement to my a deposit refundable. After going back and forth with the guy for weeks, I just had to flat out tell him "look, I'm not changing my service agreement, I think it would be better if you took your car somewhere else". People that try shit like that, are not the type of people you want to work with.
Regardless, once the customer starts to demand and be in control, any adjustment you make will make it seem like the customer is winning you over. So if he was a friendly guy that was super laid back, we're way more flexible. When you're arrogant and rude, we're not gonna let you walk over us
One lady pull with SUV while we was detailing one of our clinet SUV right..she ask for a wash and interior wipe with stain removal right..We say for you 100.00...she said come on man I can go down the street and vacuum the inside and clean for about $10.00.. I said well I guess u will be going down the street 🤣🤣
I'm a drywall estimator and I price drywall, steel stud framing, etc as a sub-trade to General Contractors (GCs). Kinda like they are our customers. Even at our lowest price, I've had guys come back and tell me we are 30% higher than some other guy they got pricing from, so I basically tell them they should use that guy if they want a whole heap of arguments because he definitely isn't including everything we are. Also, I suggest that part of the way into the project, he will bail because he messed up and will start losing money. 10% I can maybe see but there isn't even 30% admin+profit on these jobs. Some slimeball GC's use that tactic to try fool you into doing the job at below-cost. There are some real scumbags out there, and all they care about is money
To the detailers who have customers claim they damaged something, draft up a pre-detail inspection sheet and list any deformity on the vehicle. Similar to a walk-through when you rent an apartment. Take pictures as well. I do my own vehicles typically but I hurt my back and had a local guy detail my car and he showed me this sheet and I was like this is actually a great idea. Will save headaches and arguments with customers.
I agree 1000%. I rather go without than deal with the headache client. And I always under promise over deliver and keep my clients happy. And always leave room in the price for a just in case it takes longer than expected. That way if things go better than expected or the job goes quicker than you thought I can knock the price down by say $20 as an example from the agreed price for the job and that usually always goes a long way with clients because who doesn’t want to feel like there getting a good deal. Also they feel like your taking care of them. We all have to make money and have expenses to pay for but keeping clientele happy and appreciated is the most important. I strictly work by word of mouth and have not had the need to advertise (knock on wood) and I strongly believe these little things go a long way.
Hi oscar i started my detailing business 4 months ago it had a great pop start in the beginning but slowly gaining more customers. My worst customers have cars in a bad condition & would like to pay me the least minimum to make their cars look brand new like the cars i detail at my dealership at. They also think that the process of removing tree sap, & gunk takes less than 5 mins to do with a "special spray". Also the customers who say the cars not that bad has the worst car trashed out, i learned to ask for pics before hand from you & it works a whole lot
I had a guy refuse to pay. Spent 8 hours working on both his cars. He wasn’t there when I left but called me to chew me out. It was just little shit. I offered to come back and fix it and he said no. A few days later I texted him again offering to swing by and take care if what he was unhappy with, or I could take $100 off the price and he berated me more via text message and said he was just gonna have another detailer redo everything, then he would mail me a check with photos so I could see what he wanted done. Weird thing is, I had known this guy for 20 years and never had a problem with him. It would be one thing to do this to a stranger but we know a lot of the same people.
When I used to detail, I’d simply say my prices were not negotiable as we know what we provide is worth our asking price. After that, we’d simply cut the conversation off if “customer” continued trying to lowball us.
That's experience speaking right there ;) Penny pinchers are the absolute worst customers on every single levels! These people have the dirties cars because they don't want to pay to get it cleaned correctly, they are never happy with results, never tip, haggle on everything and so on and so forth. When I get someone like that on the phone, I give them a date 2 months out at max price possible... my goal if for them to turn me down and go somewhere else.
Had one of those clients a few weeks ago, but a ceramic and paid over a grand total for ceramic and interior... I still get texts from them asking questions about things. One of them asking if I broke a price of trim. Thankfully I had a before/after photo showing the trim already like that.
Had a guy come in for interior cleaning + headliner and just washed his car for free and claimed we chipped his paint with the polisher when we never polished his car. Came in super aggressive about it.
Perfect example, I had someone contact me about an exterior detail and almost the whole conversation was about how badly the previous detailer messed up their car, took their clear coat off, etc (a bunch of stuff that didn't add up or seem true) I knew that was a red flag and turned them away
Customers always want their car to look better than new, but they don't understand the time and skill to make that happen. Perhaps if they took better care of their vehicle it wouldn't cost so much to detail. Go to a body and paint shop and see how much they charge for scratch removal.
When people ask me how much to wash a car I tell them I don't wash cars... I detail cars. But if a customer schedules a vehicle to be detailed about 3 weeks I then offer a miantenance wash service if they keep there rides in good shape.
As a customer service rep... I’ve learned that the people that are willing to pay for your services, WILL! They respect your worth as the person providing the service. Can’t allow anything else!
Had a customer say to me I have a car for you to clean and if that turn out good I might give you a second and third. Told him I don’t do fleets because fleets owners just like dealerships can’t afford me. So sorry we can’t do business not with the quality of work we give to our clients. I kept it moving. Ohio
@@MJubeily fleets vehicles are your budget rentals, Hertz rental etc. they think because they giving you volumes of cars, they can afford you. BS you become an employee for them and that’s never been me I been doing this for 20 years I’ll never work for anyone but myself.
I actually think that is a good business practice - being able to recognize when there are customers like that and turning them away. Thats hard to do when you are new because of the money but as soon as you build up a base and some confidence you can tell those people to beat it. Unfortunately it takes some experience dealing with these kind of people to realize its not worth it.
sounds like you got patience and professionalism. as for me I don't. I snap at rude people and its probably not a good habit but i do it anyways. because if I dont i just get angrier and angrier as time goes along.
I just ask them how much they would charge if the position was switched or I ask them if their boss asked them for a discount on their paycheque what would you say? that normally shuts them up
For my mobile detail start up I’m doing full exterior and interior for $50 all together it used to be $80 but nobody wanted to pay that but that’s what I feel like my work is worth. It’s sucks but I get more work that way.
Your selling yourself short . The hours your putting in , gas , products , taxes , etc . Your basically working minimum wage maybe less .Unless you’re that fast doing full exterior interior in one hour . I just don’t see how you are making a livable wage . In California you definitely not .

@@isaacbennett1190 I advertised work on my own vehicle before and afters . I created stains , swirls , gum in cup holders , etc . I showed results and I got customers that way with no questions on my prices . Good luck and keep grinding ! Regardless business is always a roller coaster , and nothings promised / guaranteed .
I can usually tell from the initial contact if the customer is worth my time. I’ve learned people who haggle are never happy how good of a job you do !
I had a customer that I detailed his Tacoma it was filled with dust from off roading he didn’t want a deep clean so I done a regular wash after finishing the detail the dude pointed out some areas that I didn’t touch he complained areas that other people will not notice and the smallest areas well after hearing his feedback and told me I was ripping him off I sent him a full refund and professionally handled the situation I apologize and will focus on those mistakes next time and the dude told me I was a great guy handling the situation and will give me another chance but I already know I’m not going to accept the job in the future I like the clients that are chill and loves the work
I feel you bro! Whenever a customer is just getting a very basic package - I literally walk them thru what I WILL NOT touch unless they upgrade to a bigger package. It’s saved me the headache of dealing with customers who play stupid or simply think they can get there whole car remodeled for $70-$80
It also gives me the opportunity to upsell. My basic package doesn’t include cleaning of seats so if there’s a stain or a spillage on a carpet , I immediately suggest to add on that stain removal cleaning fee of $35.

Ahhh yes....we have had so many crazy stories, man! We cut those people off completely...blacklisted, blocked, and we even warn our other detailer friends in the area to not deal with them! Those types of people make the world HORRIBLE! We have learned to "read" people and how they talk to us and react...we can just tell that they will be trouble. Very good advice man!

I had a first time client drop off his car for a basic wash and full interior. As I was wrapping up the wash on the door jams, I opened the door it smelled rankkkkkk!!! So I started pulling trash out and next thing I know there was a mouse running all around ..... I called him and told him to come pick up his car. (He knew about the mouse) Later that day he pulled up and gave me the check for the wash (didn't charge him for anything besides the wash) he left then called me and threatened to sue me for some law he made up called "deceitful labor" and said he put a stop payment on the check..... let's just say I cashed that shit and he was arrested a month later for doing the same to multiple other companies LOL
This is so true. I learnt from an experience I had a few months back. Since then, I've learnt not to budge from my price. If they can't afford the service, then that's tough. They can go elsewhere.

A while back my friend booked a customer and once we arrived and met him I knew he was going to be a headache. First, he lied about having a small car to get a cheaper deal when he really had a suv, but we let it slide. It was supposed to be a simple wash & interior for 45$ but he was asking for headlight restoration, polishing, paint correction, stain removal, and window tinting! We told him we didn't offer any of those services yet but insisted we at least try to remove the stains and do the headlights because he had some kit from auto zone. We ended up just doing what was intended because he had paid us in advance since he left before we finished lol
Customer Bobby wanted you to accept the $200 offer then after you did the work he would refuse payment because of not being satisfied with your work in an attempt to cheat his bill.

Had a guy that just couldn’t understand what a ceramic is. Decided to still go for it because he wanted it. We did it. He picked over everything. A month later he claims it was pointless and doesn’t do anything. So if you can’t get them to understand or see the value In something don’t do business with them!
Very accurate on this video. I've dealt with customers like that before, even to the point where I told a customer when I arrived "this vehicle is in very bad condition and will be this much, they said sure do the best you can". Mind you, the vehicle had no clear coat, bare metal, and the interior was trashed. I did the work and she ended up paying me but then she said her husband who has been Detailing for 20 years, came out and yelled at her and asked for a full refund. Worse 5 hours of my life! Never again will I work with Customers like "Bobby". At the end of the day, you can always say no, if the customer is being rude or arrogant

Oh man. I had this guy ask for scratch repair and I told him weeks beforehand that if it's through the PAINT TO THE PRIMER. There's nothing to correct, but I can blend in the more shallow parts of the damage to an extent; you obviously still want clearcoat left to protect from UVs etc. I told him its going to need to be filled or repainted or filled and sanded and lets just say he wasn't wowed even after the correctable parts were done. People just expect detailers to be body shops are detailer prices sometimes. It's just not feasible

Had a miscommunication with a customer about her vehicle being a certain size, and I quoted $60 for basic outside wash but sense it was suv it was $80, told her I must of not realized it was a suv, and needed to charge extra $20 bucks. She rolled her eyes, and made a huge deal and even said aren’t you just a car washer. I had to explain my worth.

It was just frustrating because $20 dollars is not much of a difference, and the car was also mossy on top, but after she made a big deal I just cleaned the moss as well without charge. Remind you I also was paying a employee, so $80 is nothing. It just frustrates me because she had a landscaper there, and he goes to tell me how people like her treat you good, if you do good work, and the thing is it really solidified the fact that she undervalued me, and did not appreciate it enough. I should of set the standards at first, but oh well I learned big time from that ! It don’t feel good either to be insulted and undervalued.

Had a customer that wanted a shampoo for his seats and his wife's floors in their vehicles. Typical 85° day in south GA and I always follow the same process as usual and just told him to keep the windows down for drying purposes. He did not do that and he left both vehicles in a garage with the windows up btw and he and his wife went on vacation for a week(leaving both cars in the garage) and a week later I received a phone call of him furiously upset about both vehicles having a sour smell and when I asked if he had did what I told him to do he told me no because he didn't have time and I took to long on the two vehicles anyway. Calmly I asked him could I come take a look at them so I could possibly rectify the situation and he to me no and that he just wanted his money back and basically sending threats and so yeah you're right dealing with customers like that is a major no no!
I washed a car and did an interior with shampoo on seats mats and carpets, hard surfaces, door jambs plus outside wash, windows in and out, tires and wheels for $80 (I’m a new detailer, that’s why I charge cheap at the moment). Finished the job, lady inspected it, she was happy. Yesterday she texts me and says that the ceiling of the inside of her car was dirty plus the visors were dirty, I told her that was not included in the $80 steal, she kept complaining and I finally gave in as to not have a bad review on my brand new business, and I had to drive all the way to her house about 10 miles away and brush the visor and a few things on the ceiling. This guy is right, NOT worth the freaking headache dealing with special customers.
Taking a big picture look at your work can be rather helpful for situations like this. Your eye as a detailer will be drawn to spots you may have missed or need more work. Sometimes taking a step back and inspecting your work is just as important as being right up in there for example, cleaning the absolute heck out of one seat. But hey now you have more experience under your belt with customer expectations and can improve as a detailer from here.
I've actually stopped offering anything less than a full service detail for my mobile detailing and charge what I charge for it. It's too easy to have customers complain about missed spots on a budget service or to spend way too much time on a lower paying job.
Bro get them to sign off on the receipt that everything is to their satisfaction. For all you know those spots got their after you cleaned. And to be honest don't worry about reviews....your work will speak for itself

Once realized the customer is not gonna pay what the quote is or try and talk down your pricing.
I appreciate you taking the time to bring in your vehicle for a quote, unfortunately that is the price we would charge for this service for this condition this vehicle is in. Im sure it could be done within the price you want to spend but unfortunately it wont be here.

What you’ve highlighted here is the difference between negotiating and arguing. There’s always room to negotiate to make them comfortable and become a returning customer. Being rude doesn’t get you anywhere.
Here's a little story you might enjoy: I knew a guy running an auto scrapyard (we call them breakers), who sold parts from crashed cars in a small town near where I lived in Ireland. Not many of them around. A guy we all knew who was always trying to haggle (even in businesses you should not haggle with) needed a part badly to complete a repair. He phoned the breaker who told him it would be 80 euros (it costs a lot more new) - the phone conversation went like this:
Breaker: Yeah I have that part; It will be 80 euros
Low-baller: I'll give you 50
Breaker: 90 euros
Low-baller: Huh? I said, will you take 50 euros?
Breaker: 100 euros
Low-baller: Ok. I'll give you the 80 euros
Breaker: 110 euros
Low-baller: OK OK!!! 110 euros!! Hold it for me I will in there in 20minutes
The breaker knew no-one else within a 2hr drive had the same part 2nd hand LOL
That's how you deal with unwanted hagglers when you don't need the business. Just raise your price every time they try low-ball ;-)

Everything is easy. But you can't expect one person to mow their own lawn, cut their own hair, detail their car, clean their own home, etc... people pay for quality and convenience

I don't believe he is entirely right firstly you should never give a price over the phone unless its a general wash and wax. This is literally why you don't the customer now will have a number in mind and now when you see the job and realize its more work then you expected it makes you look bad. Because they are set on the price from the phone. Now negotiate nicely should never be an issue for these types of work. Honestly its just how you go about it.

I had to start doing work orders on all of my details because of a bad experiance with a customer. I spent 5 hours doing a full interior, exterior detail with a coat of wax on a f350. The customer did not want to pay after I was done because I "did not remove the dent in the bed" or remove the exploded sharpie stain on the tan carpet. And they were going to "take it to a professional" next time. After this I ended up doing a paper work order with a walk around and write down every ding and scratch on the vehicle before I touch it. Also I do not do any under the hood work due to liability issues.
Your suppose to carpet spray paint or fabric paint it to match. If you charging get down and handle it

I'm usually charging $100-$150 for a full detail. Wash and wax, Interior shampooed and dressed, the whole package. I dont want to rip anyone off but every detail I do, I feel like I'm really undercutting myself on the price. Some people say "wow that's not bad at all" and then some say "wow that's alot for a car cleaning" so I'm kind of stuck in between. But after 5-7 hours of busting my butt in 95 degree heat and only making close to $20 hr, it's definitely disappointing

Bro i feel you on this. I used to feel like i was ripping them off until i found out that these customers are never gonna keep their car clean, takes me 4-5 hrs instead of 2 hrs maximum, & working in the heat plus are OCD skills to make their car look brand new out the factory

I own a Mobile Auto Glass Replacement/Repair company with 5 veteran technicians. I have customers who are willing to pay my above average prices because they trust my staff and my lifetime warranty.
Everytime I get a potential customer on the phone who starts asking for a discount, I immediately and kindly tell them that I do not discount because the experience and skill my technicians who have been in this industry for 20+ years is priceless. If you'd like a lower rate, there are plenty of new companies/independent contractors online who I know will charge you half the rate and out forth half the skill.....you paid $75k for your Mercedes Benz, don't you want quality service and warranties to leave your vehicle in good hands?
I almost always decline their offer and wish them luck.
Moral of the story is, DONT FORCE YOURSELF TO TAKE JOBS AND NEVER DISCOUNT YOUR LABOR!
Into aircraft detailing, I advertise the following " If you're not fully satisfied with my work, the detailing project is on me Free of charge period" in the past 6 years after servicing well over 700 airplanes only one customer tried to be a smart ass, we tried working with him the results were flawless, no matter what we did his mind was made up, and after 9 hours of torturous hard work by 3 guys I happily honored my word and let him have it for Free and blacklisted. A year later just as he was trying to sell his airplane and wanting that flawless detail job, he called to setup an appointment needless to say that phone call lasted 5 seconds and a quick hang-up.
Last month a lady came in for a detail and we did a pretty good job on it. 7 days later the same lady called my boss and said that we did terrible on the detail and she demanded that we redo her detail for free. She came in later that day and her car was trashed. I had actually taken pictures of it the first time because I was so impressed with how it turned out and I noticed that the car had driven 2,400 miles since her detail the week prior. It was a little too late to cancel the detail because we had already started redoing the detail when I noticed it. She was happy with how it turned out when we gave the car back to her. She then called my boss again about 5 days later and she claimed that we missed a bunch of spots and my boss basically told her to screw off and never come back Lol.

I do Wraps as well as detailing. I had a customer wanting me to change my warranty/service agreement to my a deposit refundable. After going back and forth with the guy for weeks, I just had to flat out tell him "look, I'm not changing my service agreement, I think it would be better if you took your car somewhere else". People that try shit like that, are not the type of people you want to work with.
The one thing I take issue with is you were charging him per scratch and you could’ve bundled it per panel.
Regardless, once the customer starts to demand and be in control, any adjustment you make will make it seem like the customer is winning you over. So if he was a friendly guy that was super laid back, we're way more flexible. When you're arrogant and rude, we're not gonna let you walk over us

I'm a drywall estimator and I price drywall, steel stud framing, etc as a sub-trade to General Contractors (GCs). Kinda like they are our customers. Even at our lowest price, I've had guys come back and tell me we are 30% higher than some other guy they got pricing from, so I basically tell them they should use that guy if they want a whole heap of arguments because he definitely isn't including everything we are. Also, I suggest that part of the way into the project, he will bail because he messed up and will start losing money.
10% I can maybe see but there isn't even 30% admin+profit on these jobs. Some slimeball GC's use that tactic to try fool you into doing the job at below-cost.

To the detailers who have customers claim they damaged something, draft up a pre-detail inspection sheet and list any deformity on the vehicle. Similar to a walk-through when you rent an apartment. Take pictures as well. I do my own vehicles typically but I hurt my back and had a local guy detail my car and he showed me this sheet and I was like this is actually a great idea. Will save headaches and arguments with customers.
I agree 1000%. I rather go without than deal with the headache client. And I always under promise over deliver and keep my clients happy. And always leave room in the price for a just in case it takes longer than expected. That way if things go better than expected or the job goes quicker than you thought I can knock the price down by say $20 as an example from the agreed price for the job and that usually always goes a long way with clients because who doesn’t want to feel like there getting a good deal. Also they feel like your taking care of them. We all have to make money and have expenses to pay for but keeping clientele happy and appreciated is the most important. I strictly work by word of mouth and have not had the need to advertise (knock on wood) and I strongly believe these little things go a long way.

Hi oscar i started my detailing business 4 months ago it had a great pop start in the beginning but slowly gaining more customers. My worst customers have cars in a bad condition & would like to pay me the least minimum to make their cars look brand new like the cars i detail at my dealership at. They also think that the process of removing tree sap, & gunk takes less than 5 mins to do with a "special spray". Also the customers who say the cars not that bad has the worst car trashed out, i learned to ask for pics before hand from you & it works a whole lot
I had a guy refuse to pay. Spent 8 hours working on both his cars. He wasn’t there when I left but called me to chew me out. It was just little shit. I offered to come back and fix it and he said no. A few days later I texted him again offering to swing by and take care if what he was unhappy with, or I could take $100 off the price and he berated me more via text message and said he was just gonna have another detailer redo everything, then he would mail me a check with photos so I could see what he wanted done. Weird thing is, I had known this guy for 20 years and never had a problem with him. It would be one thing to do this to a stranger but we know a lot of the same people.

When I used to detail, I’d simply say my prices were not negotiable as we know what we provide is worth our asking price. After that, we’d simply cut the conversation off if “customer” continued trying to lowball us.
That's experience speaking right there ;) Penny pinchers are the absolute worst customers on every single levels! These people have the dirties cars because they don't want to pay to get it cleaned correctly, they are never happy with results, never tip, haggle on everything and so on and so forth. When I get someone like that on the phone, I give them a date 2 months out at max price possible... my goal if for them to turn me down and go somewhere else.
Had one of those clients a few weeks ago, but a ceramic and paid over a grand total for ceramic and interior... I still get texts from them asking questions about things. One of them asking if I broke a price of trim. Thankfully I had a before/after photo showing the trim already like that.
This story lol. At that point I wouldn't even want him to pay full price.

Had a guy come in for interior cleaning + headliner and just washed his car for free and claimed we chipped his paint with the polisher when we never polished his car. Came in super aggressive about it.
Good move. No matter the price, some customers are just not worth the headaches as they will NEVER be happy with the end result.
Perfect example, I had someone contact me about an exterior detail and almost the whole conversation was about how badly the previous detailer messed up their car, took their clear coat off, etc (a bunch of stuff that didn't add up or seem true) I knew that was a red flag and turned them away

I have found that the customers who pay me the least think they’re paying me the most.
Customers always want their car to look better than new, but they don't understand the time and skill to make that happen. Perhaps if they took better care of their vehicle it wouldn't cost so much to detail. Go to a body and paint shop and see how much they charge for scratch removal.

When people ask me how much to wash a car I tell them I don't wash cars... I detail cars. But if a customer schedules a vehicle to be detailed about 3 weeks I then offer a miantenance wash service if they keep there rides in good shape.

Had a customer say to me I have a car for you to clean and if that turn out good I might give you a second and third. Told him I don’t do fleets because fleets owners just like dealerships can’t afford me. So sorry we can’t do business not with the quality of work we give to our clients. I kept it moving. Ohio

@@MJubeily fleets vehicles are your budget rentals, Hertz rental etc. they think because they giving you volumes of cars, they can afford you. BS you become an employee for them and that’s never been me I been doing this for 20 years I’ll never work for anyone but myself.

I actually think that is a good business practice - being able to recognize when there are customers like that and turning them away. Thats hard to do when you are new because of the money but as soon as you build up a base and some confidence you can tell those people to beat it. Unfortunately it takes some experience dealing with these kind of people to realize its not worth it.

sounds like you got patience and professionalism. as for me I don't. I snap at rude people and its probably not a good habit but i do it anyways. because if I dont i just get angrier and angrier as time goes along.

I just ask them how much they would charge if the position was switched or I ask them if their boss asked them for a discount on their paycheque what would you say? that normally shuts them up
For my mobile detail start up I’m doing full exterior and interior for $50 all together it used to be $80 but nobody wanted to pay that but that’s what I feel like my work is worth. It’s sucks but I get more work that way.
Your selling yourself short . The hours your putting in , gas , products , taxes , etc . Your basically working minimum wage maybe less .Unless you’re that fast doing full exterior interior in one hour . I just don’t see how you are making a livable wage . In California you definitely not .

@@isaacbennett1190 I advertised work on my own vehicle before and afters . I created stains , swirls , gum in cup holders , etc . I showed results and I got customers that way with no questions on my prices . Good luck and keep grinding ! Regardless business is always a roller coaster , and nothings promised / guaranteed .

Well prices are very different for different places here as well. In Arizona prices are similar to Cali but slightly less.

I can usually tell from the initial contact if the customer is worth my time. I’ve learned people who haggle are never happy how good of a job you do !
I had a customer that I detailed his Tacoma it was filled with dust from off roading he didn’t want a deep clean so I done a regular wash after finishing the detail the dude pointed out some areas that I didn’t touch he complained areas that other people will not notice and the smallest areas well after hearing his feedback and told me I was ripping him off I sent him a full refund and professionally handled the situation I apologize and will focus on those mistakes next time and the dude told me I was a great guy handling the situation and will give me another chance but I already know I’m not going to accept the job in the future I like the clients that are chill and loves the work
I feel you bro! Whenever a customer is just getting a very basic package - I literally walk them thru what I WILL NOT touch unless they upgrade to a bigger package. It’s saved me the headache of dealing with customers who play stupid or simply think they can get there whole car remodeled for $70-$80
It also gives me the opportunity to upsell. My basic package doesn’t include cleaning of seats so if there’s a stain or a spillage on a carpet , I immediately suggest to add on that stain removal cleaning fee of $35.
I do the same thing I run a small roofing company here in Las Vegas and I run it the same way
