    Thank you for the video. Just a clarification for everyone, you can only disable a trap if you are on that space.

      How do you mean better. More difficult, less difficult, more fun more to contend with.... I always make my own judgments on games but I like to know what other people actually think

      @@Spydah666 Probably most robust. The first 2 are more just about killing shit. This one has more going on in the spaces/tiles like traps without encounters.

    Nice video, I have the legend of drizzt game. I love these games as I need my DnD fix when I cant play the pen and paper version but I do feel like those encounter cards are OP. Dnd is all about team work but if you dont explore quickly by revealing a tile you get punished and if you do reveal a tile you can still get punished lol..

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those cards keep you moving which keeps the game from stalling out. Some of them are brutal, but I still like it a lot. Thanks for watching along!

      I had the same problem, we played last night, and it's just a slow and steady wearing down of your heros. We got four tiles in and died, and it just felt so hopeless. Like, you take damage so easily, healing is rare, and there's so many encounters. Like, in DnD, the variety of encounters is what makes it a delight. So why not have positive encounters? Like, you find a treasure in the room, but without having to hurt your friends.

    • @BarrengerFynar

      Something i tried was to ignore the white/black triangle and only use encounter when no exploration is done.

    I realize I am watching this quite a while after publication (almost 3 years ... lol)
    but I was wondering ... what do the other symbols (besides the monster or trap symbols) on the adventure tiles do?
    I am guessing they are used in later adventures ... am I right?
    I own the first 2 D&D board games (Ravenloft & Ashardalon) and I am thinking of getting my weekly D&D group (we play 3.5) interested in a board game every once in a while, and figured this one might be better than the ones I have, considering it has the campaign rules ... so we can go farther than lvl 2 ...

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are used in later scenarios for sure . . . and yeah, I do like the leveling up aspect of the campaign, but the monsters will get tougher as you go on in scenarios as well. Pretty neat system I think. Thanks for watching along!

    This vid says you can either move then action. Or action then move. At first I thought you could move both before and after according to the amount of squares allowed by your speed. But when we played, we only saw it say move and take an action. So for it's said move -> and take action, we played as movement allowed only before action. And not allowed after. But then I started thinking about it again after we played, and noticed it said "and" not "and then". So and actually means you can do both. Which brought me back to the first thing I presumed. You can do both in any sequence. So for example, if you're movement is 5. You would be able to take 2 movement, then take action, then take three movement.
    But this vid says you have a choice between using your movement either before or using it after. But we never saw this. Sorry I don't own this. But please let me know where this is explained so I can inform by friends.

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Fimontronia I think only in very specific instances can you interrupt movement like when using a potion on an adjacent fellow adventurer or trading items. For more specifics and rules clarifications check out the forums on Boardgamegeek(dot)com. I do not always get all the rules right in my play throughs (I know, hard to believe . . . ;))

    It might be in the main rule book setup. Elemental evil may be different tho.

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glen DeKorne Just checked - no mention of this for setup at all in the main rule book. I think because of the campaign nature of this particular incarnation of the game, and the way you get to level up throughout, you don't get to start with a random item at the beginning of each adventure, or any adventure from what I can see.

    Played this for the first time with my grandchildren last night. With 5 characters playing, drawing an encounter card every time a tile was not uncovered resulted in some huge damage scenarios, to the point we had characters dying and gave up to try again later. Does that seem right, if you don't uncover a tile you draw up to 5 encounters a turn?

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, at the end of each player's turn if you did not reveal a tile you must draw an encounter card. You can use 5XP of defeated monsters to discard the card draw after you draw it if you like. It keeps the game moving as you must keep revealing tiles, defeating monsters or you just end up drawing a lot of encounter cards. Of course, this being your game, you can alter the rules to suit depending on fun level and who you play with. You could decide, for instance, to draw only one encounter card after everybody has gone. But, rules wise, yeah, you draw an encounter if you did not reveal a new tile. Thanks for watching along!

    • @R4idenXS
      @R4idenXS 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's best to try and keep moving while also healing. Don't forget to get treasures after defeating a monster. These help as the adventure goes on via potion and armor/attack buffs. Also try and get rid of traps and avoid hazards. They're a nuisance.

  • @LandofMert76
    @LandofMert76 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    would you recommend playing this with only the two characters? Why not play with all 5? thanks for the advice

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I play with only 2 so I can try to keep track of everything while filming . . . with more players I fear I would make many more errors. Also, with more players (if you play the game with others) leads to a lot more down time between turns.

    Do you need to move on to a trap to attempt to disable it, or can you disable it while adjacent to it? I know I could house rule it either way. but does anyone know the official rule? Great videos by the way. They inspired me to buy the game.

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From how I read the rules you only need to be on the same tile (not adjacent) to attempt to disable a trap. So, any trap on the same tile as the hero is fair game to try and disable it. Thanks for watching along!

    Maybe you can help me out man... I just got the game and I'm setting up for the first time and I go to make my tile stack. It says to put tiles 1 - 8 on top. Except..... there are no numbers on the tiles. I watched this video and paused when you drew your first tile... presumably one of 1-8. Except there's no number on your tile either. ? I'm so confused!

    • @KowashiHitori
      @KowashiHitori 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      okay... I figured it out lol... feel dumb but for anyone else it's just saying place 8 random tiles on top, then 3 random tiles shuffled with the guard tile, then the rest of them. heh... thought I was going crazy

    • @PaulDarcy
      @PaulDarcy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glen DeKorne Nothing I can see in the adventure setup says anything about drawing item cards to start, so I don't think so. I have not read through all the adventures yet though. Thanks for watching along!
