    I’m not sure if they are still as trendy as they used to be, but I love a lotion bar. They tend to be quite popular among us knitters as you can throw one in a project bag and don’t need to worry about it leaking (unlike a tube of handcream). I packaged mine in the way suggested in the original book, but a cute tin (such as a re-used mint tin) would be a little more functional.

    This is an older video, I was originally looking up lanolin cream and stumbled upon your recipe for lanolin cream. Your channel is AMAZING..I'm so glad I made that search and found this wonderful piece of past space and time ❤

    I love this channel, it’s so useful for zero-waste/zero-plastic beauty! When I’m out of lotion, I’m going to make a lotion bar

      Thanks :) I usually just alter historical labels with a photo editing software. I'll add it to the list of video ideas.

    So cool! We are going to make this. Nice mold too.

      Let me know how it turns out! And yes, isn't it a lovely mold? It's meant to be a soap mold (which is why I purchased it) but it unfortunately the soap bars get so stuck in there that they are impossible to remove without damage. I was very happy to be able to find another use for it :)

      Other than that, how is the soap making coming along? Ive been doing some on my channel. Made a pretty good copy of J.R. Ligetts shampoo bar. Made some good shaving soaps too. I too had soap stick in a mold. From now in Ill only be using silicone molds.

      Oh neat! I'll have to add your videos to my to-watch list (I am woefully behind on my video viewing at the moment...) I haven't done too much soap making lately. I made waaaayyy too much over the Christmas holidays and am still using it up! I also no longer have as much drying / storage space for my handmade soaps, since apparently mice love to eat soap. I had 2 boxes of soap destroyed due to nibbling... I've had to move the rest to a more secure location.

      That sounds like a Disney christams movie. The soap maker and the nibbling mouse.

    That's so smart. Thanks for sharing! If I ever get around to getting the recipes, I might make some!
    Quick question; do you think I could add a couple drops of lavender essential oil? (It's really effective on my skin and I'd probably get the best out of it with lavender oil in it.)

    • @horseenthusiast1250
      @horseenthusiast1250 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, that should work. A few drops of lavender won’t make it much oilier, and a few drops is probably all you need. Good luck!

    • @TheLongHairedFlapper
      @TheLongHairedFlapper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, @Venus Gillespie is correct. It should work just fine with adding some lavender oil. Actually the original instructions said to perfume if desired. There is a note in the video description (I know no one tends to read them, but I do often put recipes hints down there!) with a suggested amount of 20 to 30 drops. I haven't actually tried it in this recipe but, based on other similar products I've made in the past, that amount should be enough to scent it. If that's not enough, you can always remelt the bar and add more :)

    • @TheLongHairedFlapper
      @TheLongHairedFlapper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whoops, forgot to mention that if you are using an essential oil it should be added last. Take the mixture off the heat, let it cool slightly, then add the essential oil. If the essential oils are too hot, you run the risk of the scent dissipating too quickly and not scenting the bars properly.

    • @TheLongHairedFlapper
      @TheLongHairedFlapper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just run the bar over dry skin, and a tiny amount of the product will melt onto the skin due to the heat of your body. Then you can rub in the product like you would a lotion.

  • @ariewashere121
    @ariewashere121 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do you rub the bar directly onto the skin?

    • @TheLongHairedFlapper
      @TheLongHairedFlapper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup. The heat from your body will melt a thin layer of the lotion onto your skin, which you can then rub in if needed. I use mine on my lips too, as it makes a wonderfully rich lipbalm.

      The recipe is technically in the video. It takes a long time to write out a full recipe, so I don't tend to post them on here. I do offer written versions of all my recipes as a perk for my Patreon members. This particular recipe I did release as a free post: www.patreon.com/posts/1920s-lotion-bar-29055678
