I found this video and thought to myself, "oh this looks really cute maybe I'll give it a try!" It's not easy you guys. But, I think this is for more intermediate people that know how to fold and are passed the beginner phase. Just because this is very complex, that I'm not going to let that discourage me from continuing to practice because I know eventually I will make this. Don't give up, guys!!
it might be complex but that's what a tutorial is for isn't it? i think its really easy if u have a video infront of u telling u what to do each step. i just made this for the first time and i got it perfect in the first try. although yes i can't make it if i dont have a tutorial with me but it'll take me at most half a day to learn it. maybe it'll vary for other people but yeah, I'm sure u can perfect it very fast if u try hard. good luck
I think there is some unfair criticism towards the author here. It is definitely an intermediate origami, but I imagine that a lot of people look at the size and "cuteness" of the model and assume it is going to be dead easy for a beginner. It isn't. It takes many hours of folding models of increasing complexity before you build an intuition for how to fold. Jo has some of the best video tutorials on the net, and as long as you are patient and prepared to fail a few times before you eventually arrive at something you are pleased with, then you should find he does a very good job. Realistically, you should be folding every day if you think you are at an intermediate or above level in origami. If you are doing that you will probably surprise yourself with what you become capable of achieving, and you will look back with fond nostalgia at this origami cat, because basically everything else is going to be a Hell of a lot harder :)
@@Drstrange3000 I doubt that is true, as I was able to make the Origami with regular paper just fine and others have been able to too. Although, I do recommend investing in thin paper, as it truly makes Origami much easier.
Excellent - those ears were the hardest part - however after angrily crumpling one sheet in true origami style and then cursing in even truer origami style I finally got it - thanks!

I would love to be just like you one day!!! :) To the people who hit thumbs-down for this video: you have to be grateful that we have these awesome tutorials and be thankful for Mr Nakashima's hard work.

HOW do you get so much space behind the top of the cat's head and the back (or, between the bottom of the head and the feet)? The top of my cat's head lines up with its back and so it has very short legs and I can't make it properly 3D. This is my first try, though, so maybe a second one will work out better.
Everybody is hating on him but can we just be thankful for the fact that he MADE this video to help us? Plus no one is forcing you to make this either.
I messed up the ears on the first time making it (ended up having the top of the head in line with the top of the back), but went back and watched it again, found my error, and the next cat turned out much better! I think it would have been even better if I had thicker paper like he uses in the video, but the model still turned out adorable.
This is alot of fun to fold, the first time I tried though, I ended up crumpling it because of the final steps, but it's okay! I tried a few more times, and got it! You make excellent tutorials man, keep it up! ^-^
Made this today! Man, it took time. About an hour. A few 'What on earth?'s and a 'what just happened?' here and there and it is done. First attempt. Worth the effort. So cute.
It is so brilliant this kitty! Yours looks better than mine though, using printer paper for this model wasn't I think a good choice! But I can't wait to try it with a different kind of paper! I love nekos! ^_^ Thanks a bunch! #origami #cat #papercraft #kitten

okay so I've made this cat three times but each time it look slightly different in the end! the back of the head {like at 8:54} looks nothing like in the video and I don't know why! the cat is still cute but the head is really low on the body, instead of higher up like in the video. I don't know why this is happening, or why it turns out slightly different each time. but thanks for the tutorial! :)

Yeah, the ears are pretty hard at first but you get used to them eventually. Jo Nakashima is really amazing, it's not his fault people are having trouble doing it.
Mine looks horrible. When you got to the part of shaping the back, it fell apart. The head wouldn't pull up (The top of the head lined up with the back and the chin with the feet) so now it looks all icky.
I had the same issue until I started to form the head a little differently. Kind of pushed the area behind the head down and the front legs got longer. So when he says "form the back" I guess that's what that means lol! Even tho I was forming the back. . Just not enough I guess?
First attempt with rather thin printerpaper which i furthermore cut myself (so not 100% square). Really good tutorial. Thx a lot. The ears were a bit tricky but the hardest part was the first reverse tailfold and the shaping of the back part just behind the head (maybe because paper was so thin). If instead of pushing in the bottom where the legs are supposed to be I just CUT a semi circle, will that be okay? It won't lose its integrity? My paper is to stiff to just push it in a little. PLEASE ANSWER
At some point while trying to copy how you model the back and legs, it felt like I was just crumpling it. The integrity of the paper became too weak and it came out looking mangy. There has got to be ways to add folds to make the modeling easier because trying to control the crumple feels too random.
Oh my god. Amazing. After having trouble with the 3D part I finally came to a part that I liked and got it! I'm so happy. Thanks for the amazing video!
hi! one thing I am having trouble with is getting the face right- it ends up even to the bottom of the model; frankly the ears were the easiest part but its the face that's got me frustrated. i do love all your tutorials it's really fun and i love the challenge they give! :)
so what i do while following jo's video tutorials is to watch the entire video once and then follow along at .5 or .75x Idk why theres so much fuss about it, i didn't face any issues in making the ears with your instructions in the same video.. Currently halfway through.. lets see how this goes
This is so cute and looks so fun to make. I love origami but this one is so hard I couldn't do the ears or the part at 8:23 but then I got it and it took me at least 1 hour and a half. But it was super fun and frustrating at the same time. 😊🤔
Whoever has trouble folding the ears, use a different type of paper. What he used is a copper tissue foil paper, which is very thin and flexible. The copper allows you to bend and twist it without tearing it. So maybe you guys are using the wrong type of paper. Or just be more gentle when you fold it, you can feel it when it's about to tear.
After 20 pauses I finally watched Gatito de Papel video to get the ear. I don't speak Spanish but he showed it in a bit more detail so I finally got the ears figured out!

if you're stressing over the ears by reading the comments, they're actually not hard. it's just the 3D shaping which takes a while. :P
vouch i just had to toss my model bc the legs were too short 😭
Tis the truth. Ears not so hard, shaping took ages, but if you are using similar paper to Jo then it's quite forgiving.

I think for the 3D part you need to either Wetfold or use foil or tissue foil paper. I tried using regular Kami paper and it failed massively.

I just love the sound of the paper folding ;) Thanks for this cute tutorial I REALLY LOVE CATS :D

>PHEW make sure you practice lots folks
The cat turned out really good. IT WAS SOOOO CUTE ;-)
so what i do while following jo's video tutorials is to watch the entire video once and then follow along at .5 or .75x
Idk why theres so much fuss about it, i didn't face any issues in making the ears with your instructions in the same video..
Currently halfway through.. lets see how this goes
if you guys are having trouble at around 6:00 i found it easier to fold both ears at the same time, instead of one at a time
thanks for your comment!
Я не имею проблем,хотя делаю из бумаги А-4 .
I also did not have any problems...but it's just that there were a lot people who did.
Shirley Xiao Normal white printer paper - no problems other than my messy self.
After 20 pauses I finally watched Gatito de Papel video to get the ear. I don't speak Spanish but he showed it in a bit more detail so I finally got the ears figured out!
Thank you so much!!! The cat looks adorable, and the cat I made looks a bit like my own, live cat!
