She is one of those larger than life souls. For a year I lived in a place close enough to a music/dance hall where she and Ike played some. It's a treasured memory, a bit of serendipity. I'm glad she found happiness and peace.

This legend has always been my "ALL TIME" favorite singer, in my high school years I was infactuated with her, I purchased all her her records * albums and had a big poster of her in my room back then; I so wanted to meet her. I went to her "What's love got to do with it" tour in Atlanta Ga. in 1982. Was so glad when she left Ike and found her freedom. I purchase the movie "Whats Love Got To Do With it", movie played by Angela Bassett. Cont. God speed in her happiness. This is a beautiful woman...!!!!!!

Great comeback in the 80’s. Wishing Tina all the best life has to offer her. She deserves every bit of happiness and more. She’s worked very hard to be where she’s at now. Married to a bloke who adores her for who she is. “Tina” the hardest working woman in show business.

LIES! LIES! LIES! Ike never hit Tina. Who could believe that a small and slender man like Ike could hit Tina and get away with it? Tina looks like a physical dynamo herself and it is impossible to believe that she allowed Ike to beat her with no reciprocating physical response from her. LIES!

Boy does this bring back memories. I had the chance to see her several times before she became a superstar. In the mid 60's when I was in high school her and Ike and the band and Ikettes played small gigs in and around St. Louis. One was at the Coliseum Ball Room in Benld, Illinois. This was an all white rural community in South Central Illinois. But the owner, Joyce Tarro, never let race get in the way of her bookings. She booked some of the great black performers of all time in her huge ballroom. In addition to Ike and Tina, she had such stars as Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Joe Tex, Wilson Pickett, and others. And I got to see them all. My biggest experience was when Tina and the girls were on break and she was sitting with a couple of them. I was standing alone near the dance floor during the break and she offered me a seat at their table and asked me all about myself. Many years later when MTV came on, my daughter then 10 at the time, excitedly asked if she could watch MTV at 8:00 because Tina Turner was going to be on and Tina was her idol.. I told her that I shared a drink with Tina and, of course she did not believe me. We were living in Texas at the time but within a year we moved back to Illinois and she saw the Coliseum and heard all of the stories about its history and the great bands that played there from 1926 to it's demise in the 1990's and she found out that I told her the truth. Though all of my classmates are now in our lat 60's and 70's we still talk about the times we had there, dancing and romancing in one of the great ballrooms in the Midwest. So Tina thanks for the memories and Joyce thank you for making it possible. I miss both of you and the old Coliseum.

This is a great story because Tina Turner is an amazing person who has made it to the top even through she had to go through a hard life when she was young and so much heart ache in her marriage. Little girls and women in hard relationships going through similar situations like Tina can learn so much from Tina as a person and a muscian. Your fans love you Tina and your music is amazing I love hearing how much soul you put in your songs even through I am latina and white. In my opinion you are a beautiful African American Soul Sister with a sound so amazing many blessings to you in your Golden years. Much 💘 Tina.

Sadly, not end of Tina's storied life :( *Her oldest Son Craig, died of a self inflicted gunshot wound this month, Tina may have all that money..but true enough, Tina has seen more than her share, of really bad tragedies and she has had to make 10times MORE difficult decisions, because she has this iconic 'celebrity cloak' on her as she was ALSO a mother, a wife and a hard working woman~Money only get so you far and by that, I mean, I only hope she has found some peace of mind, in that life she has had, in so far. I'm glad to hear she is happy in her life, away from this obsessed celeb culture "the industry" and I do hope for her, all the very best. :)

Ike Turner was a St. Louis Rock & Roll pioneer long before he met up with Tina. I saw him live in St. Louis in the mid 50s, along with Chuck Berry & Benny Sharp at Club Imperial in north St. Louis. His 1st hit was "I'm Tore Up...Drunk As I Can Be"...Ike died about 10 or so years ago in San Marcus, just north of San Diego.

I saw Tina perform at the famous Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans,Louisiana 1980's Tina with 2 backup singers 1 black/1white...Did they dance !!!!... During the period of success of Let's Stay Together albumn....A great performance/great experience .....I'll never forget it !!!.....Short time after International Super Star......ThunderDome......with Mel Gibson.......I also saw Tina and Ike 1970 or 1971 ? at Tulane Stadium NOLA........It was an all day into nite concert with a lineup of about every top black talent of that time.......What a show !!!..Last time I saw Tina in concert was with Cindy Lauper(Lauper was pregnant showing baby bump ) at UNO Lakefront Arena NOLA.... " Hanes " was Tina's sponsor....Her entrance.......Tina was lowered to the stage from the ceiling of the Arena on a floating crescent moon.......Legs crossed (showing her legs of which she is known for) wearing Hanes stockings......The crowd went wild...........Lauper did her thing also......Again what a great show from both of them !!!!!!!! It was an afternoon concert......I was treating my sister in law to the movies but instead drove to the Arena... She opened the door to her amazing, powerful and true innerself by chanting NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO...
Years ago I was lead to believe that to practice Nichiren’s Buddhism correctly, one had to attend meetings and belong to an organisation. Nowadays I’ve come to understand that anyone, regardless of whether they become a ‘member’ of a group or not, can benefit from their own personal practice.
The reason for this is that is the Law Nam-myoho-renge-kyo represents the identity of what some scientists refer to as the ‘unified field of all consciousnesses’. In other words, it’s the essence of all of existence and non-existence, the ultimate creative force behind planets, stars, nebulae, people, animals, trees, fish, birds, and all phenomena, manifest or latent. All matter and intelligence are simply waves or ripples manifesting to and from this core source.
Consciousness (enlightenment) is itself the true creator of everything that is, ever was and ever will be, right down to the minutest particles of dust, each being an individual ripple or wave.
The big difference between chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and most other conventional prayers is that instead of depending on a ‘middle man’ to connect us to our state of enlightenment, we’re able to do it ourselves by tapping directly into it by way of self-produced sound vibration.
On the subject of ‘Who or What Is God?’, when we compare the concept of ‘God’, as a separate entity that is forever watching down on us, to Nichiren’s teachings, the true omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of what most people call ‘God’ is our enlightenment, which exists nowhere else but within us.
When the disciples asked Jesus where the Kingdom of God is, didn’t he tell them that it was within them?
Some say that ‘God’ is an entity that can never be seen. I think that the vast amount of information that is constantly being conveyed via electromagnetic waves gives us proof of how an invisible state of ‘God’ could actually exist.
It’s widely known that certain data being relayed by way of electromagnetic waves has the potential to help bring about extraordinary and powerful effects, including instant global awareness of something or mass emotional reaction. As well as many other things, it’s also common knowledge that these waves can easily be used to detonate a bomb or to even enable NASA to control the movements of a robot as far away as the Moon or Mars. However, none of this is possible without a receiver to decode the information that is being transmitted. Without the receiver, the information would remain impotent.
In a very similar way, it’s important for us to have our ‘receiver’ switched on so that we can activate a clear and precise understanding of our life, all other life and what we and all else that exists truly is. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo helps us to achieve this because it allows us to reach into the core of our enlightenment and switch it on. That’s because the sound vibration of ‘myoho-renge-kyo’ represents the combination of the three major laws that underlie all existence.
‘Myoho’ represents the Law of latency and manifestation (Nature), and consists of two alternating states. One state of ‘myo’ is where everything in life that’s not obvious to us exists. This includes our stored memories when we’re not thinking about them, our hidden potential and inner emotions whenever they’re not being expressed, our desires, our fears, our wisdom, happiness, karma, and more importantly, our enlightenment. The other state, ‘ho’, is where everything in Life exists whenever it becomes obvious to us, such as when a thought pops up from within our memory, whenever we experience or express our emotions, or whenever a good or bad effect manifests from our karma.
When anything becomes apparent, it simply means that it has come out of the state of ‘myo’ (dormancy/latency) and into a state of ‘ho’ (manifestation). It’s simply the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness, being awake or asleep, or knowing and not knowing something.
The second law, ‘renge’, governs and controls the functions of ‘myoho’, ‘ren’ meaning cause and ‘ge’ meaning effect. The two laws of ‘myoho’ and ‘renge’, both functions together simultaneously, as well as underlies all spiritual and physical existence.
The final and third part of the tri-combination, ‘kyo’, is what allows the law ‘myoho’ to be able to integrate with the law ‘renge’. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects together all Life and matter, as well as the past, present and future. It is often termed the Universal Law of Communication. Perhaps it could even be compared to the ‘string theory’ that some scientists now suspect exists.
Just as our body cells, thoughts, feelings and all else are constantly fluctuating within us, everything in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux, in accordance with these three laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of ‘myo’ and ‘ho’ in a single moment than it would ever be possible for us to calculate or describe. And it doesn't matter how big or small, important or trivial that anything may appear to be, everything that’s ever existed in the past, exists now, or will exist in the future, exists only because of the workings of 'myoho-renge-kyo'.
These three laws are also the basis of the four fundamental forces and if they didn't function, neither we nor anything else could go on existing. Simply put, all forms of existence, including the seasons, day and night, birth, death and so on, are all moving forward in an ongoing flow of continuation, rhythmically reverting back and forth between the two universal states of ‘myo’ and ‘ho’ in absolute accordance with ‘renge’ and by way of ‘kyo’. Even stars are dying and being reborn in accordance with the workings of what the combination ‘myoho-renge-kyo’ represents.
‘Nam’, on the other hand, is a password or a key; it allows us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘myoho-renge-kyo’. On a more personal basis, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives from moment to moment, as well in our environment.
By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is turning, and rhythmically chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for a minimum of ten minutes daily, anyone can experience actual proof of its positive effects in their life.
In so doing, we can pierce through even the thickest layers of our karma and activate our Buddha Nature (enlightened state). We’re then able to bring forth the wisdom needed to challenge, overcome and change our negative circumstances into positive ones. It brings forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that is preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we truly are, regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexual preference. We are also able to see and understand our circumstances and environment more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations.
Actual proof soon becomes apparent to anyone who chants the words Nam-myoho-renge-kyo on a regular daily basis. Everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect, so the strength of the result from chanting depends on dedication, sincerity and determination. To explain it more simply, the difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, or producing a song and so on.

Thanks for this. I too was introduced long ago to this law and I too no longer feel the need to belong to a group. I read your near-death experience on another post and found it interesting. I must admit that I have never yet read any other near death experience which makes reference to the law. Your post opened my eyes though.
You may be interested in reading Robert Monroe's book "Far Journeys".
Chapter 15 of the book, in particular, titled "Promised Plan" relates an out of body trip he took to the year 3,000 when Earth and humans have been transformed, with humans existing primarily in "spiritual" form. Here is the excerpt below:
"Then we had crossed the coastline and were over Japan. Off to the north was Fujiyama, a white cone glistening in the sun. Below us was a
neat carpet of tidy fields in large checkerboard squares, each a subtle shade of green-correction: much more than greens. Spotted among the green like a gigantic bouquet were clusters of fields each of a different color, one a mass of bright orange, another deep blue, whites, reds-fields of blooming flowers, bushes, and evidently hybrids of the two, because no flower could be that large.
It was a pattern that could be seen only from high
We were hovering over a rolling landscape, at about ten thousand feet.Directly below us was what seemed to be the center of a lotus blossom, the outermost petals in magnificent glowing colors spreading out in all directions for five or six miles. Beyond these were descending tones of green, from the very light of a fresh new leaf to the rich dark of the lower tropical rain forest. She and BB were beside me.
The woman vibrated.(This is one of the nicest.)
I could see why. I opened.(Who did this?)
(A group who wanted the area to give a percept of the beauty that began here. It was in existence when I came. Now others just take care of it.)"

For all Ike's faults he gave Tina a platform to shine. She was the show but Ike put it all together from arranging their music down to her name. He was already an established musician before he met Tina. Ike is credited with writing the first Rock and Roll song "Rocket 88" at 19 in 1951. Before Tina, Ike discovered Howlin' Wolf and Little Junior Parker. He played with B.B. King and Elvis used to sneak into clubs to watch him play! Tina was a Nursing Aide before she joined Ike's band. He took her in when she was a teen mom with nowhere to go. They both benefited from each other to get out of St Louis. They created a musical legacy together which is why they're inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame together as a duo.

In 2017 Tina had a stroke which left her having to learn how to walk again. Then in 2017 she found out she had intestinal cancer. She refused traditional medicine so she went into kidney failure. Her husband ended up giving her his kidney and now she has written a book called My Love Story and you can read all about her journey. She is a very strong woman. I pray she is doing well.
