  • Gym, childhood, lifeline, legacy, classroom, adventure, social network - nature means something special to all of us. It needs protecting.
Our mosslands store carbon, yet 98% of our region's mosslands have been destroyed. Our sand dunes form a soft sea defence, yet encroaching development has seen them dwindle to almost nothing. Our wildflower meadows and hedgerows - so important for insects, farmland birds like the yellowhammer, and small mammals (themselves food for declining birds like kestrels) have all but disappeared. Red squirrels cling on in just a few pockets around Merseyside, turtle doves and nightjars no longer live in the North West, and willow tits only survive in small fragments around Wigan.
But you can stand up for our incredible wildlife and wild places. Help us fight for nature across Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside - become a member today: www.lancswt.org.uk/become-member
