I hope you enjoy this special compilation of videos while I am away this week, back to usual next week!
Here before the comment blows
I really like the video, but Saxony is not in the Alps, it's the Lusatian mountains.
Is that why there is no youtube shorts this past Thursday yesterday as I am typing this 7/28? Please respond.
The name Africa and Mauretania are not from Arab origins. Arabs weren't even present in North Africa until the medieval era. Mauretania was named after a Berber kingdom which was in term named after a berber group called the Mauri. Africa comes from the berber name "ifri" which means tribe.
As an Amazigh myself I'm always seriously bothered when you tell false information and crediting Arabs that haven't even left Arabia then for Berber names.

@37:00 ish...
Chugoku sounds very similar to the Japanese word for China/Chinese, which also means central country - so perhaps it had a large Chinese settlement?
I love this video! Highly informative and needs way more views!
West Bengal is not named so because it's on the west of Bay of Bengal. Hint: Guess which state is East Bengal?
Bangladesh

I really love long videos like this!
Thank you Name Explain!
bro kept me more entertained than a movie!
I southern Germany, where I come from, the term "Welsch" refers to our southern neighbours in the south of France and in Italy. Also, there is a (I think mostly historic) ethno social group, that came about as Romanes/Sinti cultures, jewish culture and cultures of various traveling folks all mixed together. They are called "Rothwelschen", which is a related term to "Welsch". In parts of Switzerland, concentrated in the city of Bern, there were particularly important centers of their culture. Also in some parts of southern Germany, France and Italy.

disclaimer: This comment really is just a fun nonsensical tangent and is very much not intended to denigrate any uniqueness of any of the cultures of the regions mentioned!
The naming of the japanese islands really is a reminder that all over the world people think in similar patterns, having a similar translation as countries/regions in europe and south america for the very least: Hokkaido ~ Norway; Shikoku ~ Tawantinsoyu (the inca realm in peru which also meant something akin to 4 parts).
This is the best birthday present ever

I have no particular problem with compilations like this.
It seems quite unnecessary to be sure but why would you Stich videos together with such glaring issues that were raised in the comments of the original??
Like the Germany video. Zooming in on the Kaiser when talking about the chancellor and stuff like that.
Sorry this is just dumb.
not watching a 3-hour compilation, but here's a like and comment regardless.
1:25:36 India
Do one on the Philippine Provinces; there are 81 of them, and Filipinos are both extremely online, gravitate to videos about the Philippines, and are very curious ;p
There’s 81
Why did you pronounce some brazilian names with a L? Like "Roraima", "Pará", "Maranhão"?
Rio de Janeiro doesn't exactly mean "river". The portuguese were masters at sailing the seas, of course they would know what a bay is and what a river is. In european portuguese, at least back in the day, "rio" refered to bodies of water that nowdays are known as "baías", bays. Meanwhile, "ria" was the world for river, and nowdays (at least in Brazil) we only use "rio".
33:50 my hometown in Romania in called German Rock
I've also heard that "Wales" and "Welsh" comes from an old Anglo-Saxon term meaning "slave" as many Anglo-Saxons enslaved their newfound Celtic British neighbors when they arrived to Great Britain. There was actually sort of a "woke" movement to change the English name of Wales to the Welsh native name "Cymru" for that reason. I'm a Yank with part Welsh ancestry and honestly don't really care either way, but it is interesting to discuss the etymology of country names.
I mean, it could be worse. Our English word "slave" comes from Latin referring to the Slavs of Eastern Europe because the Romans enslaved many of them in ancient times. Yeah, we have a name for people in involuntary servitude named after an entire ethnic group that befell that fate thousands of years ago via the Roman Empire. English is a weird language, nonetheless.
So the UK is basically a super country or sub-continent.
Wait, is name for a province/nation of Italy comes from the same source as the male name Vitaliy?
Where is everyone from? Sound out people. I am originally from the Vancouver area and now live in south eastern British Columbia. Where are you generally from?
West Massachusetts
São Paulo Brazil
Okinawa, Japan and then California, USA.
1:21:08 actually the name of León comes from latin legio
Such a shame you focused mostly on the new regions of France on the France one... 😅
Do the US county’s next
Welsh is weird. It's spelled cymru but pronounce cumli
it's actually pronounced come-ree
You mispronounced Derbyshire, with derby being pronounced dah-bee
2:36:24 La única parte del video que importa ARGENTINA PAPAAAAA 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
So England has a kind of circular origin of its name.
Still haven’t made the USA
Still waiting for that one
NO PRONUNCIATION SOURCES >:(
Thank you for covering India at 1:25:38
I watched only the Indian States
