At the place I work at, we had an issue with a homeless lady of our own. She was virtually a staff infamous legend for a while. In the shopping center, its not rare to see people begging with signs, but never until working have I seen such a person as this one lady that went on to be called "The Cookie Lady". She would walk up to customers, ask them to buy her "a sandwich", and then she would walk up with them and place orders that were often 50$. She wasn't just asking for food, she was choosey, asking for weird things like a simple veggie wrap that suddenly had to have fake chicken, extra avocado, extra ranch and beans, even almonds (which isn't even a food-line thing, its for our smoothies), and then start adding other simpler sandwiches, quesadillas, or upcharged cookies into the mix. Orders would also involve odd mix-ups of her demanding the extra avo had to be on the side. I'm shocked that I've only witnessed one time where the person paying for her, escaped when he realized what she was doing. Any time she made a real food order, she took ages even with a line to debate out her unusual choices, never listened to any casual advice on her own confused mess of orders, and if she had any part of the payment it came in inconvenient coins while she pulled them from an envelope (or sometimes, a ziplock bag) of better bills. She was called the cookie lady, because she was particularly odd about cookies. She'd come in early morning, or late at night, asking to trade cookies for some reason. I work in mental health and some personality disorders might make someone like this. I have people who have essentially nothing who demand and expect all sorts when I’m the loser there getting paid very low to oblige them. Sucks but that’s life I guess.

From your narrative, that option wasn't offered (understandably; theft is ery shocking and it's hard to react in the moment). I agree stealing is definitely wrong, but I totally understand your conflict and I greatly admire your empathy. You never know what a person has been through or how much they are struggling or suffering. Many homeless people are disabled and/or mentally ill and just don't have anyone to help them. It's not an excuse to steal, but it was a tough situation for you to be in for sure! As someone who literally just barely escaped becoming homeless a few years ago, I can tell you that asking for help is often extremely difficult and also very scary. Maybe if you're in that situation again you could just go over to them and gently ask if they need help or assistance. Offer to make them a sandwich or call a shelter and find them a bed. A little kindness can really go a long way, and while stealing is most definitely wrong, it's often an act of pure desperation.
Complicated as someone who has only been homeless for a few days at a time in my teen years and very early 20's and to this day has mental health issues, I have so often seen the regulars know where to target for freebies because they know people are the soft touch, and because they know if they steal the cops won't arrest them as its not worth putting them in jail for small things I have even know a homeless person who was a nasty piece of work and for over 16 years go into a different store each day, trash the shelves as they knew they would get a night in cells and free meal, but the same person refused social work support. So it ends up the stealing isn't out of desperation but a form of attention seeking, the fact they are homeless is just part of it.
You should definitely release the footage. Also, whenever something like this happens, you could use the footage on youtube as a punishment instead of calling the cops. It is a win/win for you both as you have a video to post and they don't go to jail.

It may not have been 'nerve', but desperation. And how could she have known you would have helped if she had asked? From your narrative, that option wasn't offered (understandably; theft is ery shocking and it's hard to react in the moment). I'm glad you didn't do anything further or call the cops as the customer suggested, and PLEASE don't release the security footage for likes or any other reason. Just let it go. You just said you don't really need the tips, it doesn't sound like a traumatic or violent robbery, and though it's shitty to be stolen from, it sounds like this woman really needed help/money/food. Don't post the footage in case she really is homeless or food insecure and gets identified/in trouble from it.

I agree with her needing food to eat and survive but stealing from people who work hard for their money isn't right. Also if you are starving you shouldn't steal from people who are making minimum wage (obv Milad isn't but just about any other fast food worker) Just because the lady was most likely homeless doesn't mean she gets a free pass. Also if she did not think MIlad would say yes to giving her free stuff she should atleast try. She is at the very bottom for morals in my opinion. Milad should release the cam footage to add guilt to this lady if she even notices and maybe will stop doing it. It seems like she did this countless other times to other people also. Theres people working out in the fields, 12 hours a day in other 3rd world countrys for pennies, she is litteraly so blessed to be even living in America.

Complicated with fine lines, some would take advantage of the generosity and want more and more, and even if reporting them would be worse its a no win situation, some people for whatever reason just do things like this because they feel they are hard done by.

I agree stealing is definitely wrong, but I totally understand your conflict and I greatly admire your empathy. You never know what a person has been through or how much they are struggling or suffering. Many homeless people are disabled and/or mentally ill and just don't have anyone to help them. It's not an excuse to steal, but it was a tough situation for you to be in for sure!
As someone who literally just barely escaped becoming homeless a few years ago, I can tell you that asking for help is often extremely difficult and also very scary. Maybe if you're in that situation again you could just go over to them and gently ask if they need help or assistance. Offer to make them a sandwich or call a shelter and find them a bed. A little kindness can really go a long way, and while stealing is most definitely wrong, it's often an act of pure desperation.
Complicated as someone who has only been homeless for a few days at a time in my teen years and very early 20's and to this day has mental health issues, I have so often seen the regulars know where to target for freebies because they know people are the soft touch, and because they know if they steal the cops won't arrest them as its not worth putting them in jail for small things I have even know a homeless person who was a nasty piece of work and for over 16 years go into a different store each day, trash the shelves as they knew they would get a night in cells and free meal, but the same person refused social work support. So it ends up the stealing isn't out of desperation but a form of attention seeking, the fact they are homeless is just part of it.
You should definitely release the footage. Also, whenever something like this happens, you could use the footage on youtube as a punishment instead of calling the cops. It is a win/win for you both as you have a video to post and they don't go to jail.
That's pretty shitty thing to do to someone who is homeless, she would probably be forced to steal even more because people would recognize her and refuse to offer help.

Milad i went to a subway in India this was the first time i went to a subway they were out of tomatoes and the workers were not helpful even after that i left a $1 tip because you said to do something nice for someone i wish they could make milad clones so that everyone would have a nice experience at subway

That doesn't give them the automatic right though, would it be the same if the person had a home but couldn't afford to heat it, it was run down and couldn't afford food? Where do we draw the line? I have been there and still had homeless people (genuine or not) attempt to steal from me and when I stop them they give me the "but im homeless, you are rich and can afford it" despite me telling them I am living off bread and pasta and water they claim I am lying. Where is the line drawn?
