OMG, OMG, WHAT A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE!!! I love Jon and Miguel so much. Miguel is super underrated and underappreciated on the show; he was honestly one of my favorite characters. I understand why the big three were hostile towards him because of his unconventional relationship with Rebecca and because he was Jack’s best friend, but I love the development of their dynamic as they slowly began to accept him throughout the show. I always felt bad for him, and his episode in the final season made me cry! It was a wonderful tribute to caretakers in general. Justice was served when the Pearsons did what had to be done. It was such a full-circle moment, and Miguel deserved to be acknowledged and recognized for taking care of Rebecca in her old age, even if he was just as old himself. Jon is such a sweetheart and played Miguel perfectly. No other actor could have portrayed him better. Loved this episode 😭❤️
@@nascreates3392 right?! They were so fun to watch and they really add more depth to the show. Without them, the Pearsons wouldn’t be who they are! Everyone is important on this show :)
Although there are many great ones, my favorite Toby joke in the entire show is when everyone's in the hospital awaiting news about Kate's delivery, and Toby comes out and says that Kate requested to speak to Miguel first.
I'm from Spain and I didn't know about people hating Miguel in the USA. I always liked him and never blamed him for falling for Rebecca. I was just curious to know how they ended up getting married. I love the whole cast and I love the whole story. Thank you for doing this podcast. I was having a bad day and you guys helped me shift my mood in a minute 😍💖
I never understood the dislike of Miguel. I liked him and he tried hard to be a part of the family, plus I assumed there wasn't foul play between him & Rebecca when Jack was alive. I have heard of a beautiful blended families between the decreased husband's wife and his best friend. It was in their grief and the best friend's dedication in taking care of the best friend's young children that they bonded
I loved Jon on Castle and then on as Miguel, but I had no idea he was such a jack of all trades. That's so interesting, and I love his idea of cramming as much life into life as possible. Great guest, great episode. I absolutely love this whole podcast.
In watching this podcast I am bewildered by how much these actors embody their characters. So much of themselves are poured into their roles and I completely forget these people are acting. SKB is Randall, Chris is Toby, Mandy is Rebecca, Jon is Miguel. This show is so humanizing to emotions and I just adore it. I didn't start watching This is Us until this year, watched it on Netflix and as soon as I finished the series I was blessed with this rewatch podcast. What a wonderful gift.
The chemistry between all of you is truly heartwarming! Just can't get enough of you all. Jon Huertas truly seems like a very experienced, perseverant and confident person (though he calls it ADD XD). Truly a remarkable example in life. Just want to highlight how much Miguel's character grows on you throughout the different seasons. Thanks to Jon for portraying Miguel with such humanity and warmth. The Miguel-centric episode was something else. So many little details. As Puerto Rican myself, I kept a close eye on the family gatherings portrayed through the eyes of Miguel and thought it was hilarious to hear how the background people there would start their conversations gossiping about someone else just the way you hear it in family gatherings here in PR. And the most important touch, can't have a gathering without our Medallas (our local beer). The level of detail on this show was truly astonishing. Thank you to everyone involved in making it so.
I always loved Jon. From Episode 1 to 6. When Jack died and how Miguel helped Rebecca and the kids made me love him. Loved the Tabou episode. That made me more emotional towards Miguel
I literally laughed all through this episode!! What an amazing surprise & guest. Loved to see you all having a great time! Keep up the great work. Hope to see Milo, Chrissy and Justine at some point 🙂
They all embody their characters so well it’s scary. I probably wouldn’t recognize anyone from the show on the street. I barely recognize Miguel aka Jon. It’s incredible! I wonder why Randall wore glasses?
Watching this episode of the podcast honestly gave me even more appreciated for John Huertas. He just seems like a cool dude! Someone you can hang with, and enjoy an intellectual conversation but also just have fun and laugh with!
I loved the character Miguel from the beginning. Yes, I was surprised when it was revealed he and Rebecca were married; but I just could not dislike him at that point..he was too sweet; there just had to be a reason without the reason being salacious! Jon was adorable as Miguel and in real life!
Ok, my all time favorite Miguel scene was season 5 at Kevin’s bachelor party when he said, and I’m paraphrasing, there are some stories that are written in the stars but then there are stories where 2 people who the universe had no plans for write their stories together. Loved it because that’s my husband and I.
Miguel was a cornerstone for the family and his undying love and loyalty to Rebecca was so sincere. I never had hate for Miguel. Life is complicated and beautiful and their stories showcases that.
jon came to our local apple blossom festival this past may ...it was such a huge pleasure and honor to meet him. he was so incredibly kind....he actually lived in our town during his high school years and graduated from my high school in the late 80s i believe. so cool!
I loooooved the Miguel episode,TBH rewatched it a few times and felt all the feels and really appreciate the arc of Miguel's character from start to finish🎉🎉🎉
I was a big fan of him from castle.. his character was so hilarious and macho in that.. loved that energy and when I saw him in this is us.. I was surprised to see him that and definitely it took sometime for us to love him but at the end the best character arc ever and loved and cared so much for him at the end ❤well played by Jon..
I'm Latin, originally from Brazil, and as an immigrant, I felt embraced when I saw Miguel on the show. I was a little shocked when I saw him with Becca, but I had hope that their story would turn out beautifully, and it did-I was just waiting for it. During the scenes where they were close friends, I kept cheering for them... 'Now he'll say something...' or 'Now he'll invite her out...' 😂 When he moved away and left Rebecca, I couldn't believe it! Thank God the story turned around, and they both got their happy ending. ❤
Loved seeing Jon as a guest this week…for all the feels I had watching this show the one we say goodbye to Miguel hit me the hardest. Definitely hope he joins again for another episode.
This was such a fun episode!! Loved Jon since Castle, so it was so fun to see him on This is Us! What a fun podcast episode! My jaw hurts from smiling. You guys made me smile and laugh the whole time. Also, pretty sure the trying everything is probably also the ADD like he said 😆
I loved this episode! It was so nice getting to know Jon. I appreciated Miguel and wanted him to get more credit. I was so sad he didnt have more time to talk in The Train episode. I need to now watch other things he has been in, he seems so awesome!
I was very UPSET that Jon Huertas only got one centered episode as he was a very important character to me. But this podcast makes me feel better ❤. Do bring him back !
I have watched "This Is Us" so many times in its entirety. It is the Miguel's back story episode that always make me most sad and there were many sad times. Well done!
When rewatching the show with my husband who didn't watch it the first time. He wasn't a fan of Miguel at all. I saw that the Miguel episode was up next and sobbed just from knowing what was coming. I said, "you will understand why we love him now." When Sterling explained the tree moment I started crying again remembering the feeling while sitting at my desk at work. 😭
I was irritated from the beginning that Miguel got so dismissed. By the beginning of the 3rd season I kept telling my daughter ‘when do we get to hear Miguel’s story?’ Finally near the end of the last season I was like, finally we get to hear about Miguel. 😂
The Miguel Episode was def in my top 5 episodes of the entire series. So so beautiful. As Jon said it was pretty much perfect. Made me cry a lot. And the And so it goes song by Billy Joel that plays at the end 😭😭😭 amazing song choice that made it more emotional
Sterling, I just love your laugh! It is the best! I also love love this podcast as I loved the show! Keep the episodes coming and bring more of the other characters!
Kevin was immature regarding Miguel. I understand when he was a kid but as an adult just seemed odd. I suppose we needed to see the progression and it made a good storyline
ADHDer. Jon's desire to know a lot about a lot of things is an ADHD trait. We like to explore new interests, and for the undisciplined bunch of us, it can often result in an endless stream of endless projects. But Jon seems disciplined well enough to be able to do so much beyond just acting.
Whew, Jon Huertas dodged a bullet with that Norman Lear audition. If people hated Miguel Rivas because of what they "thought" he did, then imagine playing that homophobic Victor Alvarez who abandoned his gay 15 year old daughter on the dance floor of her quinceanera. The internet ripped poor James Martinez (who ultimately got the role) to shreds!
I liked Miguel from the first watch and from the beginning, I was surprised he was married to Rebecca but I didn't think of him as a wife stealer, I was curious how their love story started though. He proved time and time again that he was the Pearson's rock and he was often treated as a doormat. It's very smart to get the Miguel episode towards the end because for 5 seasons we saw hints of his life, he's human he has flows. He wasn't a great husband to Shelly and a present father but he was a great friend to Jack and again, a roc to the Pearson. The only thing I regret is that we didn't see much his relationship to his granddaughters, and with Randall. They had different life but Randall always said he didn't know where exactly he belonged and Miguel as a portorican from working class background climbing the ladder and doing very well for himself.
I always gave Miguel the benefit of the doubt. Loved seeing Jon on here. I wasn’t familiar with him prior to the show so I didn’t know how he really looked. Not bad!!! lol. Love you Miguel!
I'm guilty of not liking Miguel at first, I got wrapped into the flash forward. Before Miguel had his own episode, I just knew America was doing a collective, "Oh, hell no" 😂 Miguel was a "wife stealer" and it didn't matter that Jack passed away. 😂

All of the love interests (Beth, Toby, and Miguel) were my favorite and their bond in the first couple of seasons was soooo crazily wonderful.

The Miguel episode is the one that made me cry the most. I'm so happy Jon came by to visit. ❤

Same! I felt so much respect and admiration for that character. It's in my top 3.
LOTS of crying for sure
Yes I sobbed the deepest sob, the kind of cry usually given to a personal situation. I was so moved by this episode- it really really moved me
