  • Sydney's Insane $2.7B Airport Transformation | Shocking Tech Marvels at Sydney New Airport
Sydney is constructing a new Mega Airport, The Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. This mega project plans to be one of the largest airports in Asia and comes at a heavy engineering cost to Australia. Today we explore some of the insane engineering behind the mega airport and see how it will transform travel to Sydney

Big project indeed, pitty I live in Perth, but I’m sure I’ll get to visit it sometime soon when built.

I live only 20-30 minutes from here. It will be far better to get to than Sydney airport in the middle of the city.
I'll probably be like many people, just taking a weekend away so we can use the new airport!

Melbourne has 1 and a bit airports; neither with railways. Going backwards fast!

Well i hope it'll be better than the current one as there is only one airport i will avoid at all cost which is the current Sydney international airport, always something not right with totally abusive staff at security with constant rude handling and very unprofessional staff

Why can't Melbourne's Labor government build 12 kms rail link?

The airport has held that up - the state and federal governments have both stumped up $5b each for it.

A good treatment of this massive civil project.
yes you skipped over the many the alternative sites and the massive environment (Noise and pollution ) concerns that this location has yet to satisfactorily address.
Its biggest Failure Its connections to the adjoining Western Sydney Region and Local suburbs it's essentially only accessible to the extensive Tolled Road network. There is no direct transport to any of the major regions cities. the express buses? yes, vehicle only budget, no last mile infrastructure. Roadway other that the existing orbital roads is not Not budgeted for , the Metro link fails as it connects to an already crowded heavy rail network.on a already Over capacity link
It will be a very pretty Airport that has won many awards. And likely to win more awards. But just as unfriendly as Sydney's exiting airport for Last mile connections.

Noise pollution is something people will have to get used to.
So, it wont have a dedicated rail to city link like the great current one ?
Will this be a combined Domestic terminal or is that staying at Kingsford?

@@gavinwalker8670 So it suppose to be serviced by Qantas 11 flights from it So It likely that QANTAS will have domestic links . So I expect the International flights would do like Jetstar and have on flights to other Airports in Australia. It would be economical to Not do that.
I expect 10 million passengers annually incl domestic services. Otherwise other international carriers wont bother coming to WSA.
As to Rail link .If the point of the exercise is a Second SYDNEY airport the need for Rail link to ALL of Sydney is a huge thing in its success!
Especially for Tourism, and business flyers. Given the released Metro carriages are only 3 carriages Metro The NSW Government doesn't seem too confident that it wont be a White elephant.
      Sad Another Opportunity Lost!
Noise Pollution is something that Governments hope that Aircraft will be Quiet. That is 'a operational issue????
For those in Western Sydney and n the surrounding areas are expected to Adjust too?

Both airports will do domestic and international flights. If making a connection people will fly into either WSI or KSA that provides the connection they want.
Not sure where the "no transport" story comes from. It will have a dedicated metro line running north south through it from Day One. (Sydney KSA has a rail line through it, often already crowded with suburban passengers during the peaks along the same line).
The Metro also provides the centre transport core for Western Sydney (larger population than the rest of Sydney. It also connects with the Sydney suburban rail system and inter-city services to the Blue Mountains at St Marys.
It is likely to be extended to connect with the M1 Metro, the SW Link (which connects to the old airport and the old harbour city) and ultimately south through Oran Park to Narellan and Campbelltown. An additional Metro connecting from Westmead is also mooted by the time WSI is has a second runway and increasing passenger traffic 8-fold from when it is opened.
The M12 motorway is already well advanced to connect the airport with the M7 and Greater Sydney's other motorways. The existing main road to the the airport is also being widened to four lanes. The planned Western Sydney Freight line will also connect the industrial areas, already springing up north of the airport, through the freight network to interstate services and the Botany Bay Container Port.
That plus direct bus services to other surrounding centres and extensive car parks. Geez. How many transport connections do you want??

@@kimriley5655 Qantas and Jetstar alone are initially basing 15 aircraft at the airport, each of which can do multiple flights every day and night.
The 3-4 Carriage Metro has has an ultimate capacity greater than a typical suburban Sydney train line, but faster. Initially it will probably only run every five minutes or so. It can however be expanded to 4 car sets running every two minutes or so..
While the well-heeled tourist or business traveller will still want a harbour view from their hotel, already the overseas economy traveller are commonly staying in accommodation out west, where it is far cheaper, closer to places like the Blue Mountains, and use the rail system to visit wherever they like on day trips. If you are heading around the other side of the world, either airport will do, depending on where you live. If you and your football mates are going to Bali, WSI will almost certainly be a better priced deal wherever you live.
Western Sydney has a larger population than the rest of Sydney and is growing faster. It's the third biggest populated area in Australia. It primarily needs to be connected to Western Sydney. If you live in the north or east you will probably still use the old airport.
Plus ultimately there will also be a second Metro line in from Westmead. Look closely at aerial clips of the airport and you can already see the space left for it to be built next to the initial Metro.
No mystery or guesswork. All this info is publicly available online.

@@tacitdionysus3220 Some good points. but Westmead connection has been curtailed for the express purpose of building Multiple High rise apartments where the Tunnel dive connection was originally intended.. With the new alignment and shortened stub tunnels being constructed allow for maxi High rise. At the expense of the logical extension to WSA.. Yes frequency / headway with the limited sets is a issue too so, 3 car metro sets could move 1000 people but that seems to in a different configuration than being displayed.

The biggest waste of residential land is in affluent suburbs closer to the coast, who oppose any high and medium rise development in their precious vicinity.
