Great video! It should be noted that 100 watt radios STILL consume quite a lot pf power even in low power operation due to biasing of the finals. Of course I'm not saying this for you, but the people like me who unit recently didn't realize this until I tried to operate field day with 12 volt lead acid battery that turns into a giant resistor once the voltage gets much under 12 volts. A radio specifically designed for QRP will last a LOT longer on a battery. Thanks for sharing and 73's!

Man, I love yer "end of the world" microphone. That's some snazzy build. I think I'd just have to use my D-104 mic. I will be getting my Technician license in Sept. of this year and I don't even have a HAM radio. However, I do have access to several SSB CB radios that have been frequency modified and have unlocked clarifiers. Can't wait to get my license. I take practice tests daily to keep up with my learning process. So far, I've scored 100% on all the tests. Guess I'll be building my own antennae for the radios.

When I find a rig that’s been in a box for 25 years, the guy says, “It powered up fine the last time I used it.” He’s the cousin of every man who says an old car “was running when parked”!
I have respect for that mic. We made a floor lamp like that when first married, used it for many years.
Now, how many acres of solar panels will I need to power all my vintage vacuum tube gear.....?

I have my Father's 100MX and the matching power supply/speaker. Dad passed away in 1993. I don't use it much but it's a great unit. The only problem it's ever had was a pass transistor in the power supply shorted and took out the microphone pre-amp and the dial lights in the radio at least 30 years ago. I replaced them and it's never been into since.

I used 10 watts off of a Kenwood TS-940 to communicate with a friend in Acapulco from my location in Houston. I would start around 2:00 PM but by evening as band conditions changed I would have to increase to 100 watts. That's a 10 dB increase in power which amounts to an S unit and a half so really you don't need a whole lot of power to communicate. He would receive me at 5 and 9 with 20 dB over until early evening.

I purchased and started studying about the HackRF One SDR. I'm learning how to build various antennas and building a tiny computer running linux so i can run various software for it. By using SDR effectively, the theory is I would be able to fairly quickly locate others who are technology setup for disaster. I will also be carrying a small handheld transceiver as part of my everyday carry stuff.

Yeah, I have a computer supply I was using to power a Raspberry Pi 3B along with a screen monitor I repurposed for the Raspberry. What size are the filter caps I see next to the computer supply? I've got a couple of 6800uF caps I took out of a UPS power supply that got fried. They're at 42 V. DC. Do you have those wired in series or parallel? It's kinda hard to see them at the extreme right of the screen. I also just subscribed to yer channel. I find this to be very interesting.

When charging your battery don't just turn the raido off. take it totaly off bank or off line. If you switch power banks the wrong way you will smoke out the main power diode . Also smart chargers will not work if you have a battery that has a cell drag. This means you need to get out the old hammer, two diodes and a transformer. and a cap if you want to be fancy. Sure you will gas cells . Just be careful. Thats wat the hell they make a volt meter for. With a flooded acid batteries you can fight! Hell chop cells that are dead . Things will work if you kill just one cell . Not very good but it will work. Cheif enginner S,S Legacy Jack Hreha.
