Fair take at the start that NA and Zafina players have that "big button tekken" reputation for a reason. It's definitely hard to make adjustments and instead double down on reckless play once you start getting cooked, but I wonder what you think of this: imo it's just as harmful that he went up 6 matches at one point. Cuz then it creates the illusion at first that he didn't have to change anything (he was winning after all). So if you have a fiery personality or ego affects how you play, it feels like there's only a small window (like right after you broke the 6 streak) where he might've been clear headed enough to make adjustments. Besides, the stuff that he'd been doing had "been working" while you got the download, so it's easier to double down on it even when it's a sunk cost. Definitely this set highlights mindset as well as playstyle as important things to be mindful of when you play
This is a good point and I have experienced something like this before. I believe this happens when someone becomes too comfortable with what "works." The problem is, when someone becomes too comfortable, they don't want to do more important things. They just want to stay where they're at which goes very deeply. The downside of this is when they do not want to prepare for when someone actually downloads the style. He was not prepared for this. This was not in his bookbag that someone was gonna download him. Simply because he only relies on what "works." So what you said is a great point, and I would not blame him for feeling that way, however it isn't the best way to go on his end.
