@@MDFishTanks you should look up a native tank for here in Ohio, you’d be surprised by the fish we have in our streams! Especially the Darters! But yes that sucks you cannot do that though. Still love the content! Bless!
I'm so grateful for you plant tips. I've initially thought lights were the problem and poured lots of money into high end lights. I wish i watched your videos before i did that.
The right nutrients do really help with plant growth, I agree! The past few weeks I've been dry starting a Superfish Scaper 90, put in Nutri base first, then aquasoil because I want a carpet and then let all sorts of carpeting plants grow in. The other night I filled up the tank, put CO2 injection on it and the Superfish light on top (it comes with the kit of course) and everything is pearling!
Remember to get a nice quality macro nutrient plant fertilizer like easy green or nilocg thrive, use it after water changes and trims for max plant health : ) the aquasoil will provide enough for a few weeks but you'll want to start fertilizing after if using co2
I love how your enthusiasm has never waned and, indeed, seems stronger than ever. It's one of the factors that makes your content so enjoyable. Thanks MD!
It's great to see your excitement over upcoming projects. I hope you don't burn out. Take those vacations, days off, etc...whatever it takes to keep that enthusiasm. Glad that your family enjoyed a trip away🙂
Glad you had a good holiday! You’ve come a long way from your little shed at home! Can’t believe how fast the time goes. So I cured my first case of dropsy in my panda goldfish tank.! yay!
You seem rejuvenated, happy for you:) Fwiw, I agree about the pearl gouramis - I've had two different sets where they've each picked off a single female. I was surprised because they have a reputation for being peaceable. This last group of 6 had only one male and the females chased away another female every time she got in too close to the group. I have one tank out of 7 that seems effortlessly balanced and I've been doing this for years! It took years to balance it too, with flood lights no less. We have higher ph here and I get so much algae with a fertile substrate. Even so, I think I've got nothing to lose by trying it more your way, adding root tabs and more frequent water changes and additional ferts. I have what I would consider lots of plants, but I'll replant all the new ones I get, too. Wish me luck!
I'm hooked and happy I'm back into fish keeping but also into aquascaping, I love the plants in my tanks and I'm learning so much. I'm figuring out the types of plants I really like and how the plants are doing in my 1st venture into aquascaping I'm now confident enough to break down my first try and do much better reconfiguring my tank to fix my beginner efforts lol. You give me plenty of confidence that I can and am learning but that I can also break it down and do better. Your builds are always so beautiful.
Thanks for the update on the Odessa's, I was one of the people asking! The males are stunning, especially the two with darker scales which is a lovely contrast against the red stripe. Mine are nowhere near as colourful unfortunately - I may only have females (8). They are still young so hopefully their colour will improve with age.
We use tablet dispensers I.e monday to Friday pop ya dose in, for when we go on holiday. Brilliant load it up easy for your fish career to feed. Loving your work and I'm proud of my 4ft community tank built up from watching your videos over the last few years. Keep it up MD 👊
I was so worried when I saw the title but where was the disaster? I think you should put Chunks in the 8 foot with a partner along with the Blue Acara and give those beauties some room to swim. Maybe some red cherry shrimp and discus to make the colors pop. Love your channel, mate.
There is something to this. With some experience, sometimes it's good to just neglect the tank for a few weeks or month and let it work out its own problems.
The two remaining pearl gourami are boys. The one that died was female. That is quiet a small tank for three, the males can get very aggressive with the girls when they want to breed.
Both of those pearl gouramis look like males to me. The third one that died I thought was a female. The ladies don’t really get any orange. The two males together in that small tank is going to result in a lot of stress on the smaller male- I suggest splitting them up and maybe trying to find a few females.
The part you said about the substrate being way more important then the light is spot on my plants kept dying I got a light they stopped dying but would not grow why because my substrate was corse quarts gravle the substrate had no nutriants and the fish poop would not catch inside and would be at the very bottom of it so the plants could'nt absorb the stuff if you can't find a nutrient substrait make shure you make it fine sand with small gravle 3 to 4 mm of corse level and if you can get some clay put some of that in as well it's better then nothing
Auch wenn man in der Aquaristik von Zeit zu Zeit auf scheinbar unlösbare Probleme stößt, ist Aufgeben nie eine Option, dafür ist "die Aquaristik ja das schönste Hobby der Welt"! 😉

You ever been interested in making a native tank? Like collecting fish from streams or creeks or bodies of water that are native to your area? I love doing that up here in Ohio, USA
Tricky in the UK as you're not legally allowed to to remove wild fish.
Not really that great a variety of fish suitable for such a venture here in the UK, at least non that would be of nice colours.
All the fish in gb are extremely uncommon, big, edible, boring or mutated in the Thames
Yeah that's not something I think I'm allowed to do...and especially showing myself doing it on youtube. Nice idea though.

Pufferfish: “a pug without inbreeding” 🤣👌🏼
Question about the notes for your dad: do you have written down somewhere what you feed each tank or do you do it all by feel?
You can do this by feeling when you have experience taking care of hundreds of species for so many years, then it becomes as simple as eating rice.
All your tanks look great, but the 8ft is my favorite. It has a great assortment of plants and the way the wood pops through . Awesome .

If you lightly mist the front of the glass with water the magnet cleaner moves very freely and easily 👍
Then you're cleaning water marks off 😅
Timmy's shield is perfectly algae free since the Odessa barbs are with him!
Just wish some of your tanks have more negative spaces so they dont all look the same.
CIchlids being cichlids :D Half a tank isn't unusual. Also the 8feet keeps looking great (most the tanks do)!
