This is bareback bronc riding. There are three main bronc events. Saddle broncs, bareback broncs and ranch broncs. Often referred to as "bucking horses". It's similar to bullriding, but generally horses don't twist like bulls do. They are alot more bucky though. Bareback is widely (but debatable) considered the most dangerous of all of them. The goal is to stay on a full eight seconds and score the highest points possible. Both the rider and horse get a score. I believe a perfect score is 100 but that very very rarely if ever happens. The highest scores I've ever seen in person were just north of 90. And that's pretty amazing.
Actually, most horses love it. These horses work on average of 8 seconds once a week. They eat the best feed, and are kept safe and have routine vet care. The spurs are rounded, so they are never cut or harmed. Watch a horse on a cool morning. They will run and buck across a pasture, they love it.
Horses only buck in pain, stress, and being uncomfortable. he has a strap around the most sensitive part of his body, the flank. If you even touch the flank your horse will back up… this is abuse

You must know nothing about rodeos if you think this is a cruel sport, these animals are the backbone of the industry and are treated as such.
