Absolutely SUPERB !!! Thank you for posting this wonderful video for all to see. I could almost actually smell the coal, the smoke, the creosote, the salt water, even the occasional Frenchman that would walk by. This is a delightful video.
I'm so glad this trio are back together. I love their various farm series (Victoria, war-time, etc). I watch them every year near Christmas time. ❤❤❤ thank you!
The part where they were inspecting the steam locomotive and making the backhead plate brings back memories for me. From 15 to 18 years old I worked at a tourist RR and museum. Right out of high school I went to work with a man traveling around the US doing boiler inspections on and rebuilding steam locomotives for a few years. I've had to do exactly what they were doing with the large rosebud torches heating up the backhead sheet at that turn back and beating it with sledgehammers to bring it to the correct radius. The one I worked on was shaped a bit different at the top. Instead of having straight sides, both flared out at the top. It looked to me like a keyhole the old skeleton keys went in. A circle with a rectangle coming off the bottom. ⅝ inch think steel too so it took a bit of doing to get it to conform to the correct radius. It was very tough, dirty work but I'd do it again and stay longer, probably never leave the work; if I had it to do over. I made choices that lead me down a different not as fulfilling road in my life. I tell my son you only get one shot at this world so make the most of it and do what makes you happy. If the type of work you do has meaning to you then you won't dread getting out of bed in the mornings and you'll have a much happier working life. 👍
