I think carrying your own reusable straw is a great option . Also resteraunts should carry reusable metal or bamboo straws for individuals with disabilities.

Yes! Reusable straws is a better option than paper ones. Other countries offer bamboo straws.

As a disabled person I can't risk that the restaurant will have no straws so I've been carrying my own straw with me for years now. I have metal and bamboo ones. The metal ones can bend which is more comfortable outside home for me. And they can be washed in a dishwasher. :)

I noticed about the straw thing ever since I went to a hotel in Redang, Terengganu, Malaysia. The hotel I went to is a supporter of turtles and they want to make sure their oceans are clean for their turtles to swim freely. I understand why they have to do this for the enviroment but sometimes, I myself have to take straws because my teeth are really sensitive to cold stuff, especially soda and icy water.
Maybe they should try making leafy straws instead of paper ones.

In my 11th age, i was drinking black tea with my father. And glass is broke in my mouth too. God's sake nothing happened! Glad to see i am not the only one who tried to bite glass/pick up with teeth.

I have a couple of rubber straws that have a slit on their length. You can open them apart to clean them and just snap them back together.
My daughter got them for me because I was a weirdo who washed and reused disposable straws. In fact, she first got me the metal one with the brush like yours, but these are much more practical to clean and light as a feather.
I hope you can find them! (We're in Canada and she got them in a store.)

Baha Fresh used to provide a thick plastic straw with a cap for the jumbo drink. I haven't been to a BF in some time so not sure if they are still provided.

it's frustrating. I have mast cell activation and metal is a huge possibility to actually put me into anaphylaxis. so metal straws aren't the best idea for me. Bamboo gives slivers, silicon retains the flavour of what you're drinking... 🤷‍♀️

The straw ban is a horrible thing and one more example of people trying to regulate a perceived morality. What happened to freedom?

The straw ban is not something good for the environment, and it's based on one picture of a turtle with a staw in the nose. it's a trick to save money for the restaurant industry, but such is life, we can do nothing but bring a metal straw or accept paper ones (when I was a kid there were no other type of straw and they worked just fine), sorry for the inconvenience girls, but I see no reversing that trend.

I don't see how using paper straws over plastic ones could ever be a way to save money... they literally cost more, and because they don't last as long, customers often ask for another to replace their old straw. It's also a fact that any amount of plastic being put in the trash is harmful to the environment, whether it ends up in landfills or oceans. Plastic bags are being banned in many areas for the same reason, and generally cause more damage to the environment than straws.
A better argument would be that paper straws are not as good for the environment as they are advertised to be because while they aren't plastic, producing them still cuts down trees and creates CO2 emissions, they sometimes contain potentially harmful chemicals, and they don't break down much faster than plastic does in a landfill.

What kind of nonsense are some of your watchers discussing? Dogs are banned in most restaurants - and I like that. But when you are blind, certainly you can go in with your dog. Usually no problem at all. Exactly the same holds for a ban of straws. Usually this is a good thing - but nobody would say anything against an exception for disabled people. Where is the problem? Ah - people that are too stupid to understand that there are exceptions to every rule. I know about those stupidities, my wife is handicapped, but please don't discuss to ban the ban just because people are stupid. I think people will stay stupid, and bans are especially made for stupid people - smoking inside a restaurant for example is a thing no intelligent smoker would do.
