@Film Jams Can you compare Zeiss zoom lens as well. I have a red komodo and I'm trying to make a decision on a great lens. Also what is the name of the background music that you are playing?
Thanks Dave! We actually did! You might have missed it. Make sure to check out the chart towards the end of the video: metric and imperial weights are BOTH in the video there :)
the fact that the sigma 18-35mm made the line up with these expensive lenses and holding up good makes it a winner for me. the bloody lense is just a bit above $700!!...
To me the Sigma won out in every category except the parfocal. It's clinical, sure, but you can always throw some diffusion on and work on the grading a little bit more to get the colors you want. It excels in every other way. It even surprised me on the breathing test. I was expecting quite a different result.
I don’t remember exactly. Sorry about that! But I have used a few different copies of the lens with different cameras and they were all slightly different.
@@FilmJams I just shimmed mine up and it was .90 for me. I saw a few others on TH-cam with my same camera (URSA Mini Pro G2) and they all said .86 BUT, my guess is they all have a Rawlite OLPF filter attached. I don't.
Yup, still made a great purchase! Can't complain with the price for the range you get using the set from DZO. But you're right, I plan on buying the Tokina 11-20 cine lens just because 20mm isn't wide enough for me.
Buddy FX yah the DZO set is a great range but I think that wider Tokina is a great option. Have been looking at that one as well! I think they just lowered the price on it too.
@@FilmJams Haha it was awesome! Didn't speak on barrel distortion I believe but other than that, it was great!! I'm pulling the trigger on the tokina today :)
Right on. I think the Sigma is a great option. If you like that smooth bokeh Sigma or DZO definitely have more circular and cleaner. I kind of prefer the characteristics of the Angie....but can't go wrong with Sigma.
I still love my Angenieux, but the DZO is a contender for sure in this space. And for a lot of filmmakers I can see having the ability to swap EF to PL to be a big advantage.
@@FilmJams Yes. I use the DZO micro4/3mount 20-70mm and the back focus adjustment is great because it can be used with a variety of 4/3 cameras. DZO is very thoughtful of their users.
Film Jams to the rescue! Unfortunately you can't use any kind of speedbooster with the Pictors...This is what you have? --> amzn.to/3w1sf81 - If so, it's not compatible. I'd go for a M4/3 adapter that does not have a Speedbooster. Just one that has the adapter and no internal glass. I haven't done enough testing to recommend a specific one, but hopefully that helps enough to get you on the right path. Good luck!
Definitely! Such a great value. It’s solidly built too. Feels great. Still love my Angenieux, but I think the DZO going to be pretty popular. Thanks for watching!
By chance did you get the 14-30mm? :) I have the tokina cine 11-20 but it's got a completely different feel from the DZO (which I love but doesn't match the best).
Hey! Yes we have one on order. Going to do a video on it very soon! I have the Tokina 11-20 as well and find it’s a little softer than I’d like. Decent lens but I have high hopes for the 14-30!
Hi there, would you recommend using the Angenieux optimo zoom lens on a Black Magic Ursa 12k? I just spoke to a cinematographer who said the lens is “too heavy” for that camera.
@@mortydiamond yeah very similar lenses. The EZ have the ability to go full frame which is nice. But the DP’s have a slightly more pleasing look to me anyway. The DP’s can be found used for like half the price - also something to consider.
do you think its still a solid investment to still go for angenieux / investing in glass ( costing more than $10K ) with all the recent offering's which aren't on the same level for lack of a better word, but slowly creeping up to the same quality at a tenth of the cost? would love your opinion on this (:
It really depends on what your goal is. Rental? Personal use? Plan to resell in near future? Personally I went for a used set of Angenieux DPs because I get more rental requests for them and I love the look. I also think they will always have good resale value. And to me having the wider the 16mm is a part of how I shoot / 20mm is not wide enough for me. But if you are looking for something a bit less expensive to get started and not worried about having a specific look like the Angenieux DP lenses have then I think the DZO are an amazing value for the money. I certainly don’t think they’ll hold you back by any means from creating great content. Hope that helps! Happy shooting!
Why test the sharpness of them all at T4? I want to know what the looke like in different aputures. I shot on the Angenieux before, but only ever on T2.8
We tested sharpness at both T2.8 and T4 to show how they perform at both T-stops. Make sure to watch til the end :) the model is at T4, the Focus Chart is at T2.8. If you look at the titles under each section you can clearly see these T-stops indicated.
Sonny no worries! 😁👍 yeah they are surprisingly great for the price. Everyone that uses them here at the studio has loved them. Thanks again for watching!
@@FilmJams Was that or the OOOM lens (which is what I really wanted), But Lowa is being sketchy with the lens. At first they were going to show the Anamorphic adaptor ln august, Then the footage never came out. Then their customer service said the adaptor was shipping out in October and that If I bought it, it would come at that time. Now its shipping in November, and now that November is almost over, there is still no signs of it or even examples.
@@forrestmcbride6373 ahh yah I love Laowa but that OOOM is a beast. It’s a lot bigger. I liked the smaller form factor of the DZO’s and they also seem sharper in my tests anyway. I think you’ll be happy with it and you can always add on some Vespid primes down the line to have a color matched zoom/prime lens set.
I'm a bit confused --- so you used the Angenieux's cheap price as a major factor in why you liked it so much because the bang for the buck --- but an $800 lens that you can regularly find on sale for as low as $500 that is even sharper (if you want it softer, you can go add a Tiffen Pro Mist filter to it) doesn't give it a HUGGGEE advantage? Great video either way. Love these type of side by side videos.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video. I wouldn’t say the Angenieux is cheap really -it’s about $18,000. The DZO is a great bang for the buck as it’s a true cinema lens with durable construction and it’s parfocal - for $2300 - there is no other wide angle cinema zoom even in that price range. The Sigma is a great option if you don’t need the cinema lens features or par-focal ability, but keep in mind as we state in the video; the Cinema version of the Sigma 18-35 is $4000 - almost twice the price of the DZO.
@@AutoFOCUSED. Ahh ok that makes more sense! Yeah it's a great bang for the buck as it's a true cinema lens - if you don't need that though, the Sigma is good option for sure.
@@FilmJams yeah. I just use the Sigma 18-35 and if I want I to soften the image up so it doesn't look so sharp, I use a Tiffen Pro Mist 1/8 with my BMPCC 4K. I guess I'm not pro level though so I don't need all that. I rather invest money into more lighting or modifiers than even glass. Lol
AutoFOCUSED yeah that makes sense! The Pro Mist is nice. Actually our next video is on filters and we’ll be comparing that one to some others like Pearlescent and Hollywood Blackmagic :)
I personally am really not a fan of the dzo zoom's image quality, but those freakin flares at 2:58 is sick! How did they managed to squeeze in such a clean looking sunstar at only f4? Isn't it usually reserved for wide angle lenses at f11 or f16? Honestly would probably considering renting the dzo for flare heavy shoots cus those sunstars just look so cool!
I believe the star bokeh is because of the extra iris blades they used in the design. It’s pretty neat. If you’re into star bokeh, the DZO’s have one of the more interesting ones! Thanks for checking out the video!
I have been watching this DZOfilm closely and have always had a positive attitude towards them and I think so far from what I have seen out there, investing in the $4500 pair would be worth it especially for Indie film makers like me who prefer not to have a million primes in one case lol...
Same! Been watching them, and after using the 2 lens DZO kit, I have to say, they are an extremely good value. They're sharp and like you said - a lot less swapping primes!
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah the Sigma holds up well especially in sharpness. Personally I love the look of the Angenieux but they’re a lot more $$$
Great Video. It was extremely helpful and informative. I am subscribed. . . . You also have GREAT MUSIC! Where can I find the full songs used for the Sharpness test, Color Chart and Bokah & Breathing tests?
Thanks so much! Glad to have you as a subscriber 😆👍 all of our music comes from Universal Production Music (formerly Killer Tracks). They have some great stuff on there. Cheers!
Haha thank you! I did record the normal parts first and then just whipped through a bunch of nonsense with the Dr coat on. I don’t do the funky ganja or drink really. I’m just an ass 😆
I was very surprised by the sharpness of the DZO - in every other, admittedly YT review, they look decidedly soft at 4K. I think judging by the comments most of us seek confirmation bias in these reviews. Those for who even the DZO is out of budget will continue to love the Sigma and for those with access to 20K dollar lenses, will probably mostly continue with those. For the professional owner/operator the DZO's are of great interest at this price point, since they have all the professional form factor that still lenses don't. I keep coming back to them. I am torn between the 2 set and the Canon CN-E 18-80mm for my Ursa, as I have around 5K to spend. In many ways the Canon is ideal but I'd really prefer the robustness of a PL Mount rather than EF. But then the range, IS, back focus adjustment and sharpness I have seen with the Canon, continues to make me undecided. One thing I dislike about the DZOs, though rather petty of me, is the 'Make Your Movie' thing on the top, that will have to get covered over, with Pro. Co. label, if I end up buying them! If you'll forgive me, the "Zoom, Zoom!" and other such jokes, slightly take away from an otherwise very thorough test. Many thanks.
Well coming from someone who has both the 18-80 and the DZO, I think they’re both great. But really comes down to if you need Servo zoom and IS or if you want more shallow depth cinematic look and 2 lenses. I rarely use the 2 on the same project. DZO more for interviews and films. And canon 18-80 for event work and behind the scenes type videos where I don’t want to change lenses. The PL is more universal unless you have a lot of Canon cameras. I like that I can use my PL DZO on my red, canon, Alexa all natively (if u buy the Canon PL mount for c300 mk3). Hope that helps!
@@FilmJams Really appreciate you taking the time to reply. So at T4.4 you would say the Canon is hard to get cinematic shallow DOF (not that this bothers me, I'm from an ENG background, but clients want that now) and lowlight, compared to the DZOs? And how does the EF mount bear up on the Canon for robustness? Finally, sharpness between the two makes? Your footage on the DZOs seems to be very good, in this regard. Your review is definitely leading me again more towards the DZOs. Many thanks.
@@CUTproductionsLtd for sure! Glad to help. It’s not impossible to get shallow depth with the Canon at T4.4 but certainly harder in smaller spaces. It depends on your room, placement of subject, etc. but that plus the extra light is a pretty big advantage. But on the flip side, so is IS and servo zoom. So just figure out which is more important to you. Sharpness is pretty similar at T4 and above. Robustness- both are similar but with DZO you get PL which to me is a more future proof mount and potentially more rentable if that’s something you might do. Good luck with your choice! Let us know which way you go :)
@@FilmJams Thanks once again, you've been extremely helpful! I'll report back for sure. The ENG like servo (with optional grip) and IS is very tempting but the solid PL Mount, good build and manual control, which I'm used to, bring me back to DZO. We'll see :)
Full frame cinema zooms can get pretty expensive like the Fujinon Premistas $30,000 and up. You can use Canon L series zooms to cover full frame which are a decent budget option. The Angenieux EX zooms are probably the most popular full frame zooms in the lower cost market, but still $14,000 per lens.
It’s a much warmer lens overall. Depending on the screen you’re on this can sometimes look overly warm. On my iPhone it looks a bit overly adjusted but the iPhone has a warmer look to it already so you’re getting a double dose of warm. On my Flanders Scientific color grading monitor the Angenieux looks beautiful tho. The skin tones look very nice and warm...to my eye anyway.
I have Angenieux Optimo DP 16-42mm lens with blackmagic ursa 4.6k pro camera with Ef mount, the question Is there a way to use the lens with this camera?
Almost funny is what we strive for! 😀 thanks for checking it out. Yeah the Xeens are decent for the price, but zooms definitely are nice when you’re moving fast.
Surprised by the outcome! I like the look of the angenieux the most. It has the most character to me. But for the price the DZOs are definitely worth it and surpass many other lenses. Good bang for the buck!
I agree with you Sean. The Angenieux is my overall fave as well but the DZO is a crazy good value for 1/8 the cost! Will definitely be filming more with the DZOs to see how they hold up to the rigors of being on set.
sooneron yes matching zooms with primes is always a concern when you go with a more signature look. Many people combine the Angenieux zooms with the Cooke Primes as they have a similar look. I imagine the DZO zooms will be best to match with the new DZO primes that are coming out later this year.
See I actually like the Angenieux colors the best but it’s definitely personal preference. I like the warmer skin tones though myself. Thanks for checking out the video!
For me the Angenieux colors are simply the best here, specially the skintone is on point! But like Film Jams said, it's a matter of personal preference. Of course, this is an expensive lens, so for quality/price, the real winner for me it's the DZOFilms.
Thanks for watching! Both lenses have a close focus distance of 2’ so likely the focus pull was slightly off on that test. That test was more to show the breathing and bokeh so we probably let it slide with a little bit of soft focus.
As a long time user of the Sigma 18 35 and 50 100 Art one important value only those lenses can give you is a full frame look even if they are for super 35. Thanks to the F1.8 aperture you can have great separation that is hard to beat in a zoom lens.
I have a mid range set of Schneider Xenon (also both ef and pl mount) which definitely have a less warm look like the DZO. They cover full frame but I only have the 35, 50 and 75. I was thinking of getting the Angenieux EZ set to replace my canon zooms to keep a cine set of zooms...but am now thinking of saving the cash and grabbing the DZOs as they look a better match (the Schneiders are cooler) and are lighter. Not to mention ...if I rent a full frame camera...I can probably rent glass as I shoot mainly Helium and a pocket 6k.
Nice! Yes I think the DZO’s would work well to cut with the Xenons. The EZ are my least favorite Angenieux zoom. I would go with a used Optimo before I got a new EZ set - but the Angenieux may not cut as well with the Xenons. That’s a bit personal preference but I think the DZO will be a good option if you’re ok not having large format zooms. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@FilmJams Thanks for the input! I also consider the EZ kind of budget looking...def not the optimo (which I generally get a lot of dalies from as I used to DIT). Aside from being able to switch them out to full frame (and coverage on all cameras is why I went Xenon)...I was hoping to hear they didn't justify the massive price difference. And more I think about it ...I rarely shoot full frame video anyway. Just like to future proof if and when I can. Super 35 is probably fine for a personal set.
Yes I have a few friends that bought the EZ for the same reason to future proof and they’re all getting rid of them because they don’t love them like they did their Optimo sets. I think you probably will save a lot of money on a used Optimo set and then you could save that cash to put towards a better full frame zoom if/when you need it. That’s my plan anyway!
@@FilmJams I am working with the 18-35 and 50-100 so this test shows me that the extra cost is totally not worth it for lower budget work. subscribed now and thumbs up thanks again. Love your style and the fun you are having making these videos. It is very refreshing from the other dry reviews.
@@darrenorange2982 really appreciate that! Thanks for the sub! Glad you are enjoying our vids. And yes I agree for lower budget projects the Sigma lenses are great and you won’t see a huge improvement compared to the other lenses. Unless you need cinema housing, the Sigma are a great way to go. Cheers!
They're E mount only. You can do MFT too, but this test was meant to show Super 35 sensor. And we're testing PL and EF mount lenses. We do have a video on the Fujinon 20-120 Cabrio. Love that lens.
@@onefingerproduction3180 this was an EF / PL test. Like I mentioned the MFT crops in. Not sure how the other adapters affect the image...I don’t think the RF version of the 18-55 is even out yet.
Me, thinking: "a comparison 200% zoomed in would be great..." A few seconds later: Film Jams zooms 200% in. Me: "But how do I know if they are parfocal? THAT would be great!" A few seconds later: Film Jams does a parfocal comparison. In short, you guys ARE great! xD
Why you used Pro Res 422 LT? Wouldn't should better, for a test, use Pro Res 422 HQ? The resolution test this could shown false results, don't you think?
@@FilmJams ok! Regarding the codec I think that can show "false results" in resolution charts since the LT codec is not as good as HQ.. Don't you think? Anyway great video comparison!! 🤩Gabriel Lehto
@@GabrielLehtofilms false results? No. Read up on ProRes LT. It’s better than what most TH-cam videos use and better than what 90% of cameras can shoot.
Thanx a lot for this review! The Angenieux lens family always got my attention and I used the EZ series for a couple of projects. The only downside is that I can't afford them :-/ Now I've got a great alternative. I already pre-ordered the DZOfilm Pictor pair. Now it's even harder to wait for them to come in... ;-) Although I did like the Angenieux lens more, now I have peace of mind knowing that the DZOfilm Pictor lenses are not that far behind in quality... so, thanx again!! I definitely subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for subscribing Johan! Glad to hear you liked the review. Yes I agree these DZO are such a great option and not too far behind at all 😁👍 enjoy the lenses!
DZO for clinical look but it looks video ish, angenieux produces best skintones but the flares are a bit distracting, but very arri master primes look. Sigma holds well too DZO but agn looks photo/video ish
Thanks for checking out the video. I think you have a lot of good points....personally I love those Angenieux flares. That’s the signature look that gets my soul cookin! Cheers!
@@FilmJams great video, pleasure to check out. I love the flares too, especially the rainbows but the only thing i hate about flares is Maybe its just me or I seem to always find Abberations in the Bokeh whenever there are multicoloured flares
The DZO are really nice for the price! I still prefer the Angenieux flare personally but a lot of folks like the DZO flare for sure. Thanks for watching!
Great review Chris. The DZO is great but it also cost big money!!! I believe the Sigma is a great lens. I've never had one but I've seen many reviews about it and your video is the prove once again. Thanks man. Keep safe and keep rocking (on) 😄
Thanks Ruben! DZO is a real cinema lens - keep that in mind. The cinema version of the Sigma is $4000. So considering that, it’s a pretty good price! But the stills version of the Sigma is also a good option if you’re not needing the cinema features and build quality. Appreciate you checking out the video! And always Rock(inon) haha ;)
The Angenieux Optimo DP 16-42 is also designed for S35 sensors - all the lenses in the video are. The 16-42’s image circle is 31.4mm diagonal. So not made for larger sensors either though can use on some Red cams like Helium in 7K with slight falloff around the edges.
The DZOfilm is the best out of all while Angenieux is the worst. Another thing is that images look wider with Angenieux and I am surprise the video maker didnt pick that up. Considering the price, I am extremely impressed with the Sigma art 18-35.
Thanks for watching! Yes Angenieux is a 16mm on the wide end. We show the widest and the most telephoto FOV of each lens in the video. It’s in there in case you missed it :) have a good one!
Angenieux look incredible, it's really the top of the basket, the colors are beautiful, the skin tone is perfect, the light is great it's not for nothing that angénieux zooms are the most used in cinema since the 60s , I am not convinced by the DZO it is really below I would not waste my money on this poor quality Chinese lens and for about sigma? bah sigma look too sharp ... lack of something
There really is something special about the Angenieux lenses for me too. Sigma definitely feels too sharp for my tastes, but I can see why people like them for certain applications. It will be interesting to see how the DZO lenses hold up over the coming years. For now, I'm sticking with my Angies! :D Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Nice video, thanks! I have the DP and this video did make my happy about my choice - the colour, skin tones, smoothness, OOF look are all to my tastes - but wow the DZO is much better than expected. If the DZO was wider (ideally 15-40!) then on balance I'd be very tempted. Also remember that you can buy a used Angie and resell it very happily, also you can service and repair, or quickly replace it with an almost identical unit if you break it during a shoot-- If I was filming an important project I'd only feel safe if I had 2 sets of the DZO on hand
Hi Kris! Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. I was surprised how good the DZO held up as well. Those are some really good points. I do wish they had a 15-40mm-ish DZO focal range as well. (Maybe they have something in the works!) I think that could make things really interesting. And yes having two of the DZO for any large projects would be smart. They’re so cheap that makes that possible haha.
@@FilmJams I would like😊. Affordable lenses are very good. I think Angénieux, Zeiss... are rental lenses, or owned by big studios. Like broadcast crazy lenses
@@Lesterandsons I got my Angenieux zooms for about the price of a Pictor Zoom! When everyone was going crazy for large format lenses a few years back, there were some good deals. Now the Alexa 35 is coming out and people want the s35 glass again.
Appreciate the detailed review across all 3 lenses chief. In my mind, I was thinking the Angenieux EZ-2 15-40mm lens would of been a better match and is priced around $10kUSD. The only thing DZO haven't with got is the ENG rocker which does come in handy.
For sure! The EZ-2 would also be a good one to compare. I tend to prefer the older Optimos but the EZ’s could definitely be a good comparison too. And yes that zoom rocker can be handy! I use a Preston Microforce on my Optimos, and that could also be used on the DZO as well if you need to get that zoom functionality. Thanks for watching!
8:56 If you're not familiar with a particular lens, simply don't make claims about it, you'll end up with less factual errors in your videos. BTW, when comparing lenses, you might want to set them to similar iris, instead of keeping two at T4 and one at T5/f4 🤦♂️
What claims are you referencing? We compared at f4 and T4 because the Sigma is much darker. We didn’t want to adjust exposure in post to match. And the difference between F4 and F5 on the Sigma doesn’t change the sharpness test. It’s still sharper than the other two even opened up a bit more.
@@FilmJams You've made a remark about Sigma's cine 18-35 parfocal performance that isn't based in facts. And judging by the fact that you tried to close down the Sigma even further, I'm going to assume that you don't necessarily understand the difference between f-stops and T-stops. Since a T-value is the quotient of the f-stop and the lens's transmission, you'd need a lower f-stop number to correspond to a higher T-stop value, not the other way round.
Tomasz Brodecki yes it is based on facts, my personal tests, and the testing of one of the best lens resources there is The Cine Lens. Here’s a link to their article so you can better understand how the 18-35 is NOT parfocal - as I said in the video. You might want to check YOUR “factual errors” as you call them ;) www.google.com/amp/s/thecinelens.com/2017/02/08/are-sigmas-cine-zooms-parfocal/amp/ Check out the graph and let me know what you think 😊 or you can also go onto Sigma’s actual website under their FAQ - where they specifically state their cine zooms are NOT parfocal.
Tomasz Brodecki as far as the f-stop / t-stop comment, there is no direct conversion from F to T-stops. You can make a f-stop calculation but the result is a theoretical calculation of the image brightness for the stills lens - not an exact measurement. There is also light loss from internal reflections, plus no two lenses are the same so there is no direct conversion from F to T stops. In this test we matched the brightness using the waveform monitor so the cinema lenses had a similar exposure to the stills lens. Hope that helps you understand a bit more about our test and why we used the settings we did.
Once you read the article that you linked, you'll probably realize the 18-35mm cine is one of the best parfocal performers around ("a curve of +0.019 to - 0.009"). In the meantime, please stop using your stills lens experience as reference for the cine version, you end up misleading people who are looking for information. As for the quote, I assume you confused me with someone else.

@@RipRecords ohh true! That could do it!
Great video! I love seeing the the different styles each lens gives off.
Thanks DK! Glad it was helpful. These are some hot lenses!
Here it is, the moment I've been waiting for!
Yup, still made a great purchase! Can't complain with the price for the range you get using the set from DZO. But you're right, I plan on buying the Tokina 11-20 cine lens just because 20mm isn't wide enough for me.
Haha I hope it lives up to the wait! 😆👍
Buddy FX ahh true! We missed that test. Very cool! Let me know how you like the Tokina!
The bokeh on the Sigma look best to me - as it was a flat, uniform disc. The Angenieux had a rim of green and yellow.
Right on. I think the Sigma is a great option. If you like that smooth bokeh Sigma or DZO definitely have more circular and cleaner. I kind of prefer the characteristics of the Angie....but can't go wrong with Sigma.
Sigma + black pro mist...I’m good
Right on. That’s definitely a winning combo!
Exactly the comparison I've been looking for! Thanks for a great review
Glad it was helpful Will! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing this comparison. Really helped in my decision making process

This is a great review of how wonderful the DZO is.
I still love my Angenieux, but the DZO is a contender for sure in this space. And for a lot of filmmakers I can see having the ability to swap EF to PL to be a big advantage.
@@FilmJams
Yes.
I use the DZO micro4/3mount 20-70mm and the back focus adjustment is great because it can be used with a variety of 4/3 cameras. DZO is very thoughtful of their users.
aratatv nice...they definitely are! Love everything they include in the kit. Tools, shims, lens support. They really think about their users.
Wow, the sigma 18-35’s breathing effect is very small. Amazing!
Yeah it’s pretty minimal. Thanks for watching!
Help I can’t seem find the right adapter for bmpcc 4k to pictor lenses. I got the 4/3 to Pl menabones ultra
Good luck!
DZOFilm is such a great bang for buck cinema zoom lens. I don't know much about cinema lenses, but it'll be one of my first pick-ups for sure.
Absolutely! Great combo. The Optimo DP lenses are some of the lightest cine zooms available.
@@FilmJams Hi again! Would you say the same about the Angenieux EZ line? Would the EZ lenses also work for the Ursa 12k camera?

Woohoo thanks! Mama always said if you churn the peanut butter the jelly will find ya.
@@FilmJams ok Sorry than on my part.

Nice! Enjoy it....It’s def hard to beat for the price!
Thanks appreciate that! They’re similar on focus throw. I’ll double check and add that here for you.
@@FilmJams thanks!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🍻
Gabo Guerra for sure!
@@FilmJams I mixed the two lenses up. I think I meant the DZO, as far as you mentioning bang for the buck.
CA on the Angenieux close up of the chart!! so glad i bought the DZO, thanks!!!
It’s true. I was surprised it had more than the DZO! Thanks for watching!
Any idea that if I use this lens to produce my movie, will it be accepted by Netflix?
You could definitely film a movie on these lenses that could be on Netflix. They license all sorts of content shot on a variety of lenses and cameras.
2:25 Angenieux diffuses as skin color, so skin color is so even (better 1:55)
The Angenieux are lovely on skin. Great tones combined with Alexa especially. Thanks for watching!
WOW. Holy crap Sigma is killing it! Damn! Great test! Very interesting!
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah the Sigma holds up well especially in sharpness. Personally I love the look of the Angenieux but they’re a lot more $$$
How would a metabones par with Dzo with an EF mount?🤔
Not sure! Haven't tried it.

Great review. I’d really like to see Irix Cine vs DZOFilm review if you could do one please
Thank you! That’s a good idea. We’ll add it to the list 😃👍
@@CUTproductionsLtd haha I hear you! And glad to help anytime. Best ! 😆🎥🤙
can we use this cinema lens with Eos r5 {full frame} or its Made for aps-c body?
Which lens in the video are you referring to? All these lenses are S35 but you can use them in S35 mode on the R5.
@@FilmJams i am Referring Dizo cinema lens... Any full frame cinema zoom lens u will suggest?
Full frame cinema zooms can get pretty expensive like the Fujinon Premistas $30,000 and up. You can use Canon L series zooms to cover full frame which are a decent budget option. The Angenieux EX zooms are probably the most popular full frame zooms in the lower cost market, but still $14,000 per lens.
Why does the image with Angenieux lens have the yellowish colour?
It’s a much warmer lens overall. Depending on the screen you’re on this can sometimes look overly warm. On my iPhone it looks a bit overly adjusted but the iPhone has a warmer look to it already so you’re getting a double dose of warm. On my Flanders Scientific color grading monitor the Angenieux looks beautiful tho. The skin tones look very nice and warm...to my eye anyway.
Great video!! Thank you Film Jams
Thanks for watching!
I have Angenieux Optimo DP 16-42mm lens with blackmagic ursa 4.6k pro camera with Ef mount, the question Is there a way to use the lens with this camera?
We’ve used our 16-42 on our URSA Mini Pro G2. It has a PL Mount option. Great combo!
You mean I have to switch Mount from ef to pl for my camera to use the lens?
Yes the Angenieux lenses are PL mount.

Almost funny is what we strive for! 😀 thanks for checking it out. Yeah the Xeens are decent for the price, but zooms definitely are nice when you’re moving fast.
Am I blind or the angenieux really has arri colors ?
It’s got some sweet skin tones for sure.
My issue going with a lens with so much character is that you will really have to buy into other angies or warm lenses to match.
sooneron yes matching zooms with primes is always a concern when you go with a more signature look. Many people combine the Angenieux zooms with the Cooke Primes as they have a similar look. I imagine the DZO zooms will be best to match with the new DZO primes that are coming out later this year.
For me the DZO just oozes character and skin tone rendition. Nothing clinical about it. Buying them next month
Nice hope you’re enjoying them!
Angenieux colors are not as good as the DZOFilms
See I actually like the Angenieux colors the best but it’s definitely personal preference. I like the warmer skin tones though myself. Thanks for checking out the video!
For me the Angenieux colors are simply the best here, specially the skintone is on point! But like Film Jams said, it's a matter of personal preference. Of course, this is an expensive lens, so for quality/price, the real winner for me it's the DZOFilms.
Chuck Pepin true, nothing beats a good bargain! 😆
Excellent review! The DZO deffinately looks better than angeniex other than the fore ground focus test. was the focus off? Different focal distance?
Thanks for watching! Both lenses have a close focus distance of 2’ so likely the focus pull was slightly off on that test. That test was more to show the breathing and bokeh so we probably let it slide with a little bit of soft focus.
As a long time user of the Sigma 18 35 and 50 100 Art one important value only those lenses can give you is a full frame look even if they are for super 35. Thanks to the F1.8 aperture you can have great separation that is hard to beat in a zoom lens.
True! That shallow aperture on the wide focal length on the sigma is a nice combo. Definitely creates a unique look.
The DZO in the focus breathing test looked fairly soft in the close focus at the edge with the light.

Image circle for larger sensors the DGO doesn’t cover or the Signa.
The Angenieux Optimo DP 16-42 is also designed for S35 sensors - all the lenses in the video are. The 16-42’s image circle is 31.4mm diagonal. So not made for larger sensors either though can use on some Red cams like Helium in 7K with slight falloff around the edges.

@@FilmJams The flares of DZOfilm and Angeniuex could be much better for the price these lenses are offered
Alex R I can see that. I personally like the Angenieux flares the best but that’s certainly subjective as some people do prefer the other lens flares.

I agree. We really need an ENG zoom rocker option! I started shooting ENG style and really need a good zoom rocker on a zoom lens.
@@chrisratchford8153 hopefully they’ve got something in the works!
Sigma for the win
Good bang for the buck!
Am I the only one seeing heavy chromatic aberration with the Angenieux?
Edit: there also seems to be some pincushion distortion.
Yes a little bit. Those older lenses tend to have it. Thanks for stopping by the Channel!
You might want to check YOUR “factual errors” as you call them ;) www.google.com/amp/s/thecinelens.com/2017/02/08/are-sigmas-cine-zooms-parfocal/amp/
Check out the graph and let me know what you think 😊 or you can also go onto Sigma’s actual website under their FAQ - where they specifically state their cine zooms are NOT parfocal.
I like the sigma the best
It’s a great lens. Especially for the price. Thanks for watching!
These are super 35, not full frame. Which explains their amazing price.
Correct. These lenses cover S35 sensors.
Stupid sigma is always the answer
They’re great for the price!
Seriously. Probably the best lens ever created in terms of value. That thing is never going to go away
@@dna8269 the cockroach of lenses. Lol. Aliens in the future will find them after our society has crumbled. Was it the Sigma lenses that destroyed them? Maybe. Maybe...
How will the corner softness of the Chinese dzo impact the work : Panning ? Wide open ?
Let's looks at some masterpiece made with the 18.5 mm F2.2 Angénieux : The Touch of Evil.
Well mister Orson Wells uses it exactly as a pig would. The image quality is completely inconsistent from shot to shot.
Conclusion : never care about IQ consistency. Make ur Touch of Evil and people will surrender.
Vivian! Thanks for watching. Interesting perspective! So you're saying the story is the key?
@@FilmJams And some ways you engage with the story and show it. About the 18, 5 mm : mister Wells was again playing with distorted minds & a lens with a lot of potential distortions & perspective effects, the nearest the talent comes close to the camera. That's one argument of DOZ about the 20-55mm on their website btw. Thx for the test FJ..So long.
Right on! It was a very interesting lens and style he used on that film. Thanks again for stopping by the channel hope all’s well! -FJ
Great comparaison ! But it’s Bokeh “bo-kay”, not “boca” 🤪 (it come from Japanese )
I figured I said it wrong haha. Thanks!
Film Jams I used to say “bokeh” and people would correct me and say “no it’s boca”, but recently I’ve read about it and I was write at first... “boke” In Japanese mean “blur” and its pronounced “bo-kay”
Prémium Paris thanks for the info! I’m going to try and say it the proper way from here on out! Thanks for keeping me honest Haha 😆👍
Compares cine zooms vs photo zoom lol
Same exact glass. Check out sigmas website. We also mention that in the video.
DAMN THE SIGMAAA.....
I hear you! 😆 thanks for watching !
dude you're hilarious, can I just come hang out with you? :)
Haha thanks! Sure! We film once a week ...come hang 😆👍
@@FilmJams SWEET.. ah dagnagit you're in Florida 🤕 I was hoping to find you in L.A. bum deal. OH WELL KEEP THE GOOD STUFF COMING! 😃
Michael Padilla ahh true! Thanks! We will try to keep the goods coming 😆 glad you like!
u freak :D but like it a lot! XDDD
BUT, T4 is not the same as F4 is :P
Thanks for watching! You are correct! Not the same, but we used t/4 and f/4 as comparison reference for the test.
@@FilmJams yup sure, so that DZO and this second funny named cine lens could be tad sharper.
Othervise, who cares about the real cinema glass to be as sharp as these Sigma's razor blades 😂
I'll keep watching your channel. Lots of useful data with this funky-crazy-dizzy vibe in there 😄😍
@Bartosz Kaczmarek Haha thanks! That's the vibe here for sure. Glad you found it useful and appreciate you watching! I agree the Sigma is a sweet lens for the price :D 😀👍
