I'm 82 plus (smile)...and our first of 6 sons...wife named him Danny. Anyway, while in the hospital the morning he was born the local radio station called to congratulate and wanted to know if wife had a song request...and she requested "this" song. That was way back in 1959. My wife knew the popular songs quite well because her father whom she adored would set her on the top of a kraut barrel(?) and sing to her many of the then popular songs. She has sung many of them to me over the years! Awesome memory...huh?

6 sons wow!!! That is awesome. I have one brother. My dad had lots of brothers but they all are 6 feet deep. He is 84 and going strong but he is deaf and doesn’t use the hearing aids. Do you know why someone would not use this marvellous technology?

    • @sk8rjer
      @sk8rjer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@tdog5993 First, thanks for your reply! Re: hearing aids... I got spinal meningitis at age 4...lost hearing in one ear due to nerve dead...and only 35% in the other. I was in my late teens before first hearing aid for the one ear. They have helped over the years, but they're just that..."aids"...not the same as natural hearing. This year my wife and one son decided that I should get the latest technology...so now I have one over the one ear that just transmits the sound to the "good" ear and hearing aid/amplifier. It helps enough that I use them, but I still have problem with understanding spoken words clearly. If I increase the volume so that I feel it should be good, then, I get all kinds of "skreeching" sound that drive ya crazy...smile. I can understand why some don't want to deal with it...however, it does make others crazy...Grin!

@@sk8rjer wow thanks for the information. You are very respectful. Also it’s amazing that you were sick when you were 4 and you are still here ~78 years later! I definitely need to learn more about hearing aids. My dad’s look so cool honestly I want to try but my ears are great. My eyesight is very bad but of course I have glasses. Do you think I love wearing the glasses? Not always, but most of the time it’s ok. But I can’t live without them. So it’s not the same thing with these little things that you put in your ear(s)?

    Danny Boy
Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
From glen to glen and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the flowers dying.
'Tis you, 'tis you must go, and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
or when the valley's hushed and white with snow.
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow.
Oh Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, I love you so.
But when ye come and all the roses falling,
and I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Go out and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I will hear tho' soft your tread above me,
and then my grave will warm and sweeter be.
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me,
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me.

Yes me too! But I don't appreciate as I expect you would not either, of the comment someone said that all Irish people are alcoholics in their inherent ,so in other words every Irish person is a alcoholic and they can't help it! And I don't agree with that because I know it's nit true! And I take umbridge to it! And I don't know where she got her information from but it's wrong!!

@@lynndrowns4391 the truth is alot of us are. I say this as I scroll through TH-cam drunkenly but its rooted in emotion. We Irish are very closed off in general. And often times drink is an outlet for us to speak truthfully even if we may sound stupid at the time. Though there are some who are better than that and I'd Imagine that that is what you're grandparents must be like after reading your comment and as nice as that is to see. Many of us fit the stereotype

While I grew up without a father, I will never forget the danger and suffering she faced to keep us safe. For some reason my primary school made us sing this song ( I live in Cornwall). At one point I knew all the words off by heart and would just sing it around the house because it’s just such a beautiful song. It had been almost 5 years since I had last sang it and had completely forgotten about it until today when my friend who went to the same primary school as me was randomly humming it and of course I instantly recognised it so it lead me here. The wave of nostalgia I got when I listened to it again was massive it almost made me cry because it made me think of how care free we were back then in primary school and just because of the meaning behind the beautiful song
