David Frank did the horn parts. He's better known as The System's "Don't disturb this groove", also he did the bass on "I feel for you" Chaka Khan and Phil Collins "Sussudio" and plenty more. It was an all star line up: John "JR" Robinson on drums, who's a world famous session drummer and has been on countless hits. Nile Rodgers is a legend.

Classic song, one of the best known songs to come out of the 80s...song has everything going for it, love, joy and happiness and a lotta soul...and having the great Chaka Khan provide some background vocals is definitely the icing on the 80s cake...the song also won Record Of The Year at the 1987 Grammys...😎👍🏿🎵🎶

And I still love it today. Thanks for triggering some nice little memories from my coming of age. Big shoutout from this old, longhaired, hippy dude in the mountains of East Tennessee. Love ya, girl. Just one request: when you get to "Valerie", use the 1987 remix, not the 1982 original. It was a song that definitely needed a bit of sprucing up and the remix was exactly what it needed.

I think what Steve is referring to is True Love many couples spend decades trying to reach it, but some are lucky enough to find it all at once.
In otherwords True Love is when you REALLY love the PERSON (your soulmate) and the love you feel for that one special person supercedes what you feel for the rest of your family and friends.
It's not that you don't love your family and friends but just that you love your partner more.

The album that this is from, "Back In The High Life", was such a great album, that every Grammy category that the album and its songs were eligible for not only got nominated for those categories, but won every single one! "Higher Love" got both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, while the album got Album of the Year. I was working in a record store in California when it was released, and we couldn't keep it on the shelves, record, cassette, or CD! I knew it would do well, but didn't think it would sweep!

As a teenage you will not believe he is this good, channeling all the old jazzy blues singer he worked with. Check out The Spencer Davis Group! You girl are channeling my feelings hearing this again.

Having grown up in the 70’s, I’d know Nile Rogers’ guitar playing anywhere. Excellent groove!

Great review. Glad you're getting to know Steve. I've been a fan going back to his Traffic days. 'Back in the High Life' is a wonderful album full of hits. Love him. Before he passed, the great Ray Charles was told that people spoke of Steve as the white Ray Charles. Supposedly, Mr Charles agreed. High praise indeed.

Steve winwood one of the great white soul singers to come out of the 60s. To get the true soul from steve give a list to
15y old steve winwood- Nobody Knows You When Your Down And Out".
Very much of a version of Ray Charles. Listening to this kid with out seeing him. You would never believe that voice came from 15 year old white boy. You got it right india hes got soul. I'll say this song is not his best music. But ones gotta do what ones gotta do to keep up and sell records. "ARC OF THE DIVER", was a beautiful song by him.

Steve Winwood is a legend. Check out Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm a Man with Spencer Davis Group when he was still in his teens. Then check out anything from Traffic. Then listen to him on Can't Find My Way Home on Blind Faith. And finally Roll With It. Legend.

Ohh yesss Steve has soul darling, and Chaka, girl always brings it, when the video first started I had forgotten she did this song with him,.she's worked with so many, and him too, he use to be in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton, he's a pianist, keyboardist, guitarist, and you so must check out his other solo music, "Don't You Know What the Night Can Do, High Life(they use to use it for some beer commercials Miller high life?), someone here already mentioned Valerie, oh man its beautiful, and While You See a Chance, and Roll With It,(ohh God done with the great John Lee Hooker, old school, down home blues man!!, I mean he probably was around when Lead Belly was first starting, I couldn't believe it when I first saw the video,.I was like "who.is this old player?" I hadn't a single clue, so, huh I went to my living history hub, my mom!, was at her house put MTV on in the hopes they'd play the video, sure enough they did, and she was like John Lee Hooker,? "he's still alive!?!!!
Lol, she knew who he was, I couldn't believe it, and then John released an album, he's brilliant, my education on blues players at that time, was BB King, Muddy Waters, I didn't know them all.
Also do check out Kenny Loggins, he too did well solo, Vox Himana album, "Loraine, At Last, and my fav, Love Will Follow, beautiful beyond belief, David Sanborn on sax,(he's so good, do check.out his repertoire too)El Dabarge , Pointer Sisters,(remember them!), back vocals, soft, kinda jazz atmosphere, keep going, enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
