So what is Scheifele supposed to do - let him just walk out in front of the net and seal the game? It was a heavy hit, but it did not deserve that suspension. If you are going to go to the front of the net you have to expect that you might be hit. Evans could have just ragged the puck in the corner. The game was still undecided. Scheifele made a hockey play and did not deserve that suspension.

He should have shown genuine concern on the ice for the player he injured, and he should have been profusely apologetic afterward. I don't think he did either.
Cousins slamming Gudbranson into the boards is an example of what happens when the refs suck. Should've been a penalty due to head contact bare minimum, but instead Cousins had to get the old fashioned penalty to hopefully teach him about not slamming peoples heads into the boards.

The initial hit by Cousins should have been a misconduct call with a suspension to boot, if the refs do their job in that situation, he never sees the reason to take it into his own hands.
