RACOS Volcano (Brasov County, Transylvania, Romania)

The Racos Volcano (broad sense) is represented by the hill north of the Racos commune situated in Brasov County at the exit of Olt River from the gorge through the Persani Mountains. In the upper area of the hill, on an area of 95.2 hectares, the Geological Reserve of the Racos Geological Complex was established in 2006. The activity of the Racos volcano is recent (now 1.3-1.5 million years), being erupted exclusively basaltic products. In the first phase, through several eruption centers, there have been more tranquil effusions of basaltic lava, which are now associated with two tourist attractions, namely the Basalt Columns (natural monument from 1960) and the Brazi Quarry where is the Emerald Lake. The final stage of the volcano was much more violent (explosive-effusive) and was carried out only through a single eruption center now marked by the peak Heghes. Basaltic scoria (basaltic vacuoled lava with over 10% porosity, lower density and resistance rocks) were predominantly emitted. These scoria have been exploited as natural slag in a large semicircular quarry surrounding the eruption center. The fantastic quarry of the "lunar" landscape, with basaltic scoria in brown-reddish and blackish shades, is the subject of this video. They are documented (see subtitle) the types of eruptive products emitted (scoria, bombs, lapilli, ashes), their position around the eruption center, the hydrothermal phenomena and how the exploitation in the quarry created the false image of a volcanic crater.

nu am stiut ca exista asa ceva in romania, sand profund socat in sensul bun, felicitari pentru video, foarte bine facut !!!!!!! am fost pe vulcani activi Pacaya din Guatemala in 2000 exact a 2 a zi dupa o erupere foarte puternica, chiar in varful lui am avut placerea sa traiesc clipe unice si de groaza in acelasi moment cand lava urca pana sus..........acolo unde este mai inchis la culoare, probabil a suflat vantul mult spre partea aia de ridicatura, de aia este asa inchis la culoare, iar roca este clar, vulcanica iar aia rosie este cenusa..........foarte frumos, musai sa vizitez acel loc cand vin in tara ! multumesc pentru video exceptional, multa lume nu stie cat de buna este cenusa la filtrarea apei potabile si a altor intrebuintari la pavaje, ornamentala pentru gradini, pentru vie ca sa tina pamantul cald si noaptea .........etc. Cata bogatie care oamenii habar nu au sa o puna in valoare .

O prezentare absolut exceptionala. Mi-a lamurit foarte multe intrebari. As mai avea o mica intrebare la dumneavoastra: imi puteti arata pe harta locatia (daca mai exista) vulcanului Gruia?

@@LucianIonescu Multumesc. Am citit articolul dansului (documentandu-ma pentru un articol despre Racos pentru blogul meu de calatorii) si am vazut mentionandu-se Vulcanul Gruia. Cautand vulcanul Gruia am dat de explicatiile dumneavoastra despre Racos, dar vulcanul tot nu l-am gasit :).
