May we all listen with our hearts and hopefully with awareness with human compassion and love with insights to become a better world. With the deepest respect and appreciation to Javier, I want to congratulate you.
Thank you very much Javier for sharing your story, and Democracy Now/Amy for giving him the space to do it. As other commented, it's hard to find news media accounts of migration that are dignifying for migrants or that show their resilience. I'm looking forward to reading Solito!

Amy, there is no question US policy in El Salvador was very wrong. Several movies have been made about it. The main issue is how to correct Injustices arising from those policies and intolerable conditions in El Salvador and other Central America. I visited the region to investigate these issues. Blaming America for not openly letting all alleged refugees into the country is senseless. Proper laws on the subject are critically needed which Republicans are blocking including Sen. McCain's proposed Bill. I suffer with victims of improper/lack of adequate laws.
I've known so many people that leaves their children behind with grandparents or other family members, uncle's, antiea, etc.. to come and study and or work to this so called "first world" countries. They leave children behind not because they don't love them but because there is no other way to progress and to support them. As a parent all you want is to provide your children with better opportunities for them to have a more dignified future. It is sad and difficult to leave your home to go and live in a completely different culture and environment, even sadder when received with anger and violence. Desperation when there's no food on the table can make you do all sorts of things.
I've read about community food closets being set up on the model as a way to distribute food to the general community in case of catastrophe. This model could be used to accommodate migrants for the same reason. But that would be a measure of pragmatism that is contrary to the general policy of externalizing the burdening of humanity through exploration that caused the immigration crisis in the first place.
That would be against the law, according to some people. For example: Scott Warren was arrested and charged with the crimes of, "harboring undocumented migrants" and "conspiracy to transport and harbor undocumented migrants," because he left food and water in the Arizona desert, just in case someone needed it. He was convicted by a jury in his first trial. But, luckily, he was acquitted by a different jury in a retrial. Scott has been on this show before. Your idea is a good one, though. :)

Yes the U.S should stop sticking its face into other country business and have no right telling other countries in the Americas what to do , or try to control them But totally open borders?. The U.S / Canada/ western far left view on immigration at this point totally absurd. So he was illegal in the U.S and couldn't go visit his country?...but isnt that the reason why he left.? But he was illegal, but still got most thing Americans received ...so what is the issue again?
At what point do the people already here have a say? If I wanted to live in a country where it’s always been chaos why would I go there? Ur guest is a writer spinning a yarn.
So...of the 6+ billion people in the world who aren't doing well, how many should the US take in (keeping in mind our population is approximately 340 million)??
Do people from south and Central American countries think that we can fit them all into this country? Why can't they stay in their countries and work toward improving their countries? He says we are all just human beings, well so are we. Other questions I have for people wanting to immigrate to the USA are: If your country and life in it is so terrible why do you then have children? Do you care if your children suffer as you claim you are suffering? Do you consider that being a responsible person? This man says that he was born during a time of war in his country. Why on earth would anyone produce a child during a war? Bottom line: We cannot take all of you into our country. Please stay in your own countries and work to improve them. Also if you find that living in your country is unbearable please do not produce children who then have to live in your unbearable country.
What are you saying? "Let them starve" ? Are you a Christian? Jesus said feed the hungry, take in the stranger. And He said, "I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in."
@@keithkessler3761 No, we should not let them starve. But we can't take in everyone who shows up at our border or who illegally trespasses on our land.
@@keithkessler3761 This country lets millions of Americans starve everyday. These illegal jobseekers chose to come to a country that lets its own starve.

There has ALWAYS been "chaos" at the border, taking draconian measures doesn't help anyone or anything at all. *Those 100,000+ people (human beings) are waiting at the border "camping in the streets" because the USA stopped everyone from coming in. By International law, we MUST allow asylum seekers to apply for asylum; we haven't been following international law IT IS TIME WE DO again!*
The asylum process is not meant for economic migrants. They are supposed to seek asylum in the first safe country. They are coming for money and they bring their violence with them.
