There are many stone mine locations near your camp you can make. Also the balloon turrets work inconjunction with the crossbow turrets. They stun the monsters to allow the crossbow to mow them down.
The mortars aren't better than the ballista it's a combination of the defenses you have that does the trick. In the demo you could build three defensive towers. I don't know if you can still build them all. But the point is, that all three combined provided the best support, especially with the firepower of the mech. You should really try to use your combo attacks. That way you use far less stamina and you won't get damaged so much. 😉
shame the settlers won't help repair buildings and walls if the resources available. then again that could be part of a future upgrade or research tree.

You can get more wood and stone by upgrading your characters, they have levels and skills.

consider tapping into more of the resource nodes around the map to increase production rate and allow for more buildings.

good épisode. The mech hovers if you hold down the space key, this avoids losing lives by falling and going further by jumping

On the map, it should show you where any of the sponsors pop-up, and as for the door, there is a switch that opens the door the giant stone one

There is a lot more to do. Also love this series I would love to see more of this and I am future :) you can remap the keys.
