- In this TH-cam video, we explore Figma's Dev Mode and how it can enhance design-to-development workflows. We cover the basics of inspecting designs, marking them ready for development, and viewing padding, margin, and other properties. We also dive into more advanced features like adding dev resources, working with variables for colors and sizing, and utilizing measurements. Additionally, we showcase the coolest features, including annotations, comparing changes, the component playground, plugins, and VS code integration.... Remember to Subscribe goo.gl/6vCw64

I work in a company where I am a single designer within an agile team full of engineers, dev mode is super useful but even within a large company we cannot justify the cost of this. The pricing model is ridiculous.
Agree. very expensive.
lol its 12 a amonth?
@@marcusdelictus now times that to the amount of engineers who need it...
$300 a seat for dev mode. It's pretty pricey!
Thank you for creating this great overview, so helpful. I'll be sharing this with my team so all know all the cool features available now.
So.. how much Figma paid you to say that dev mode pricing is fair? :D
🤣
its 12 a moth dont complain
yes, but it's 25 dollars dor developers in organisation plan just to view design.. :OOOOOOO @@marcusdelictus
@@marcusdelictus gurl that is not what a dev mode seat costs at the business and enterprise levels.
i got for free
Great overview of Dev Mode, thank you Jesse!
It's a powerful addition to Figma but quite high price (like 300$ per year for a dev seat).
Not an issue for large companies but small businesses/studios will struggle.
Not at all. Even one paying gig pays for itself in time savings.
I work for a large corporation and, trust me, it’s an issue for us as well. When you have a design team of 5+ and dev teams of well over 20, those prices become big issues when it comes to budgeting. But there’s creative ways around things.
@@markp7389 The savings in time pays for itself. Across a larger dev team, the savings is multiplied.
Obviously this will vary some with each group's workflow, but it should have a pretty dramatic impact on most people's productivity.
I work for a big company and we haaaaaaate it. Nobody thought we should have to budget for this mess.
Figma is destroying themselves with these pricing plans for devmode. Looking for alternatives.
My algorithm shows me this after learning about Remotion using React to create and render videos.
What a day, what a day.
Same here😢
i need to make a continuous pattern of a variety small crosses with a jewelry circle top,, to be cut out on a laser cutter..to minimize the cutting..
i also need to do the same thing for charms for charm bracelets..any suggestions.. im happy to pay someone
Great Video !
But how to get the variables ( colors, spacing etc ) ?
I want to do my own tutorials...please which screen recorder tool did you use?
Thanks
I wish design tools would accommodate em/rem if we care about accessibility
EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon!
please speak IN to the microphone consistently your volume is all over the place
thank you jesse ♥♥♥♥
Chapeau bas 🎩🙌
Thankyou for this video Jesse♥
For people who says they hate the pricing: please build something for us that’s dirt cheap or even for !free! that the whole world can use regardless of how much time and effort you put into making it. You’re those saints that wishes for nothing in return and we need more people like you.
Great point!
Yup
YESSSSSS!!!!
what a rip off! they made us design entire app for 6months just to not gonna be able to access this anymore, this is a fucking trap.
It just means your work needs to be worth more
@@JesseShowalter of course we are paying for it now, you don’t understand, not even co-pilot, chatgpt, jira, linear, clickup etc. has this ridiculous pricing.
Figmas dev mode is utilizing dark patterns to capitalize on corporate greed when they know they don't really have that much competition. Invision is dead, XD is in limbo, Sketch shot themselves in the foot by being mac only. So Figma thinks it's completely ok double dipping on pricing. It doesn't matter if both ends users already have a paid account. No, figma wants you to pay for an extra fee for two people who are not in the same account to talk to each other.
Great point! I do agree that something interesting will likely occur once the monopoly commission wakes up, only to realize a few years later that the market is dominated by one enormous company with comprehensive design capabilities, bolstered by recent acquisitions and some sort of design-to-code tool. However, I disagree with the notion that dev mode is expensive; I believe it's priced fairly. But, we'll see what happens in a few years. Nothing is actually stopping them from increasing the price...
Not dark
Has anyone used dev mode to replace the spec documentation process? That seems to be the only way to justify the price
That is actually a very interesting question. On one hand, in my opinion, replacing specs with dev mode requires designers to either understand frontend development or have access to a sufficient existing design system that can be linked. On the other hand, most designers may not possess enough knowledge to fully utilize dev mode beyond appreciating visually appealing aspects like padding, which leads them to still rely on specs. Based on my experience, investing in dev mode for developers might be more beneficial than assigning the task to a designer. At the end of the day, designers will prepare the specifications, and developers will refer to Figma, often ending up consulting the designer directly or through platforms like Slack. :) So, for now, dev mode is something nice to have.
@@vadim_sharapov Can you share what understanding designers would need to have of frontend dev to make dev mode work? You make it sound like they should have some understanding that's different/more than what they already need to complete spec documentation.
We are in the unfortunate position of needing to migrate from XD.. Figma seems good.. but dev mode pricing is a joke... and Pixso seems like a bit of a rough alternative.. but an option.. just that they don't support adobe fonts like Figma does so that's a big issue. They only support fonts that are downloaded to your machine.. not adobe CC fonts.. I have reached out to support and they have been useless.. doesn't bode well!
Stay tuned for a video next week on this topic
Dev mode and all new features on subscription plans are sh#t. Figma becomes Adobe not even been bought by Adobe. FY Figma, migrated to Pixso
well, Figma just killed Zeplin 😕
Was just a matter of time. See: Avocode, invision, ...
Not exactly, in my opinion, merging and brancing is crazy expensive in Figma. I use Zeplin from time to time and have dev mode as well :)
