bass reeves (july 1838 - january 12, 1910) was a runaway slave, gunfighter, farmer, scout, tracker, and deputy u.s. marshal. he spoke several languages including cherokee and creek. bass was one of the first african-american deputy u.s. marshals west of the mississippi river mostly working in the rough indian territory. the region was saturated with horse thieves, cattle rustlers, gunslingers, bandits, swindlers, and murderers. bass made more than 3,000 arrests in his lifetime only killing fourteen men in the line of duty. bass was born into slavery in crawford county, arkansas. his family were slaves belonging to arkansas state legislator william steele reeves. during the american civil war, his owners fought for the confederacy. at some point, bass escaped and fled to indian country where he learned american indian languages, customs, and tracking skills. he eventually became a farmer. by 1875, bass was hired as a deputy u.s. marshal along with 200 other individuals. he was 37 years old. bass was well acquainted with the indian territory and served on their land for over 32 years as a peace officer covering over 75,000 square miles, presently known as oklahoma. he was a victim of several tragedies during his lifetime. he accidentally shot a man which led to the court case united states vs. bass reeves for which he was acquitted, his first wife nellie jennie died in 1896 and he had to arrest his son benjamin "bennie" reeves who was charged with murder. his son was released after eleven years in prison and lived out the rest of his life as a model citizen.
annie oakley (born phoebe ann mosey; august 13, 1860 - november 3, 1926) was an american sharpshooter who starred in buffalo bill's wild west. oakley developed hunting skills as a child to provide for her impoverished family in western ohio. at age 15, she won a shooting contest against an experienced marksman, frank e. butler, whom she married in 1876. the pair joined buffalo bill in 1885, performing in europe before royalty and other heads of state. audiences were astounded to see her shooting out a cigar from her husband's hand or splitting a playing-card edge-on at 30 paces. she earned more than anyone except buffalo bill himself.after a bad rail accident in 1901, she had to settle for a less taxing routine, and she toured in a play written about her career. she also instructed women in marksmanship, believing strongly in female self-defense. her stage acts were filmed for one of thomas edison's earliest kinetoscopes in 1894. since her death, her story has been adapted for stage musicals and films, including annie get your gun. - เพลง

isn't this slightly historically inaccurate in terms of some of the disses against Oakley? Pretty sure she was being framed by a dancer with a similar name and that all those charges of stealing pants and cocaine were proven false? William Randolph Hearst was in charge of trying to destroy Oakley's reputation---and Oakley won. Shouldn't disses be based in reality? enlighten me if i'm wrong. Good beat and decent battle overall though. I'm a fan of both of these folks and have studied both of em. Keep in mind Oakley gave all her money to charity, she wasn't a bad person.

better diss against oakley would have been her position on women voting. More fair diss. Also having Reeves giving disses that don't add up hurts him more than her, which isn't good because I honestly wish more people knew about the real lone ranger Bass Reeves.

Bass was top-tier on lyricism and wordplay, but Annie had way more annihilating disses, especially in her second verse. I gotta give it to Annie.

I keep coming back and noticing so many things, like the little narrative that Bass went to Annie's show on pursuit of a bounty, leading them to move from the stage to outside the town as the sun sets on their dual. Based on the gunshots at the end, Bass ended up winning.
That’s unlikely one of them is a much better shot. Remember, he mostly goes after men who are roughly 1/3 larger. He has a much higher chance of missing Annie Oakley than she has of missing him given that she’s noted for hitting targets the size of playing cards and cigarettes, both of which are smaller than a human heart which means she can casually hit him in the head where his most likelyis to hit her in the chest, which might not even kill her her right off the bat, her shots likely to kill him with absolutely no afterthought

@@charlottewalnut3118 agreed, this is a good battle in terms of beat but slightly unfair to Oakley, especially considering I'm pretty sure it was proven that stealing pants and cocaine was the work of a dancer with a similar name and it was proven. William Randolph Hearst made a fake news story to destroy oakley and was proven wrong. Perhaps the creator knows this and Bass Reeves was simply mistaken, or something.

Wasn't expecting an upload today but this is what i was waiting for. Bass Reeves' first verse was so strong, and the beginning of it with that absolutely stupendous flow was just the cherry on top. I love a classic history battle, and i absolutely love the idea of two famous cowboys fighting. The animation is pretty good too. Overall, this was pretty good.

I had to research both of these people before watching the video lol. It was time well spent though, otherwise I would have never understood the lines, like Reeves killing a cook and his son killing his wife.

Okay so what I got is that Reeves fired first, but Oakley also managed to fire. Idk that's just what I heard
Well since no bodies were heard dropping to the ground, it could be that Reeves shot Oakley in the arm or the shoulder, which could make Oakley fire off her rifle but miss her shot, which could be the case since Reeves usually takes all of his bounties in alive rather than dead.
These lyrics thinking they the “shit”, but can you even out-fart me? I’ve seen better Charles out of (uh) Charles Barkley!
