    Nice job Jose! I grew up on 38th Avenue between 111th & 114th Streets. I went to P.S. 143. My family is Black. Growing up our neighbors were Italian and Black and then Spanish folks moved in. We had a couple where the husband was Chinese and the wife was Black. Everyone got along and it was idyllic. We knew every family, by name, on the block. As a pre and then teen I would go with my friends to the Aquacade in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Looking back we din't realize how special it was to live so close to Flushing Meadows Park. I remember my dad taking us to the 1964 World's Fair. I was 5 years old and still remember it! My favorite thing was the Panoroma. Citi Field will always be Shea Stadium to me. LOL! When I saw the Silvercup sign, I was right back in my dad's station wagon going over the "59th Street" Bridge smelling the bread. My parents house was torn down and replaced with apartment buildings twice. I live in New Jersey now, but New York and especially Corona, will always be home to me. Thanks for bringing back so many fond memories!

      My younger brother went to PS 143. Even when I go to Citifield I still call it Shea Stadium. Old Habits. Our house was also torn down for Apartments and I think thats the story of New York and how much its changed

    I grew up on Corona Avenue and went to the 64-65 Worlds Fair It was a promise of tomorrow that sadly never arrived, Corona went from bring Irish to Italian to Black and Puerto Rican between the early 60's to the early 70's. It has gain changed out of all recognition aside from Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The #7 got you into Manhattan in 30 minutes. La Guardia was on the doorstep. The BQE made getting to Brooklyn a breeze not necessarily where you wanted to go too often. Is Flushing Creek still polluted? Haven't walked there in 40 years. It is not the Corona I knew as a kid. But everything changes when it's all you know and years have passed. Corona was a good start. P.S.14 the starting point. Our playground is forever gone. Big Boy Burgers are now a block of apartments.

      Roy Rogers was my go to as a kid. I miss the old neighborhood. Citifield is nice but Shea had such a great identity. I remember always sitting by the window on the train going into flushing just to see the neon lights

    I was born in the Bronx and when I was about 1 years old I started to live in Corona and grew up there that’s the neighborhood that raised me and I moved to Massachusetts in 2019. I used to go to school is P.S 28, Our Lady of Sorrows and Civic Leadership Academy. I also played baseball in Hinton Park (114), Lindon Park (104) and Flushing Meadows Park (111). I still go once in a while and when I go back it feels good to be back home.

    • @JoseOnTour
      @JoseOnTour  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our Lady of Sorrows was 2 blocks from where I lived. Nice flashback. Linden was my playground for basketball and baseball Sundays in Hinton. I really miss the neighborhood since I don’t go as often.

    I think the 7 line in nyc is heart of corona since it goes to flushing and parks at corona yard

    • @JoseOnTour
      @JoseOnTour  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. I miss when it was purple. But it definitely is in my opinion the most one of kind line in all of Queens. I went to the edge deck in Hudson Yards and they had all this 7 line merchandise which felt so nice.

    Just finished a week & a half long trip all over the Mid-Atlantic last month… on paper, staying in North Jersey off the corner of I-80 & the Parkway the 2.5 days I explored NYC seemed like the better idea… but in hindsight, I probably should’ve stayed in either Queens or Brooklyn if I could’ve found the best hotel for the price.
    Why? Because what little time I had in NYC, I personally wanted to see Corona Park. But given the weather the Sunday of memorial day weekend, me taking a lengthy detour when realizing the MTA train out of the WTC mall wasn’t running on holidays but PATH was just trying to get back to Midtown … AFTER I swiped onto the platform… you get the idea.
    The 9/11 memorial, Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, much less Central Park certainly didn’t disappoint though. Despite the THICK clouds said day…
