For perfect round bend, i suggest to fill the pipe with fine grain of sand and compress it tightly and close both ends of the pipe. Then using oxy/acetylene, heat the portion you want to bend until red hot and start bending using this bender machine. The result will be a perfect round bend
Mark it at 1' intervals. Then move the pipe around to the marks. Sometimes 1/2" intervals. Depending on how big the pipe is. Bend it a little bit at a time. Then go back and bend it a little more. You'll ger better as you practice. You can get really good bends. Doesn't rap around like some of the better pipe benders. Mark it like 8 inch start at 6" , 5" , 4" ect. Keep track of you pumps. Pumps them the same. Usually 10 to 15 pumps.
You will always have a deformation in the bend area the pipe will compress slightly in that area putting sand in the pipe and taping the ends will not work the sand will just push through what ever you put in it, The bend is fine... great job
Mark the bender center of pipe and machine together start to bend five pumps each move inch at time count pumps and one inch time and pump same little by little bend not at once hard to use but will work slowly don't collasp bend go slow and check and repeat steps that work you got to find it sweet spots also build a center clamp for pipe drill hole in die make strap around pipe so it won't slip bolt pipe in then bend
Zach Darragh Thanks buddy, glad you liked it. These bender dies are made for pipe but some folks try to bend tubes and end up with crappy results. I've made several projects and so far my pipe bends are great. Good luck and thank you for watching and commenting.
The joint seam should be on the inside of the bend, if you put it to the outside of a bend it stretches the seam and splits, rather than on the inside of the bend it compresses the weld seam and doesn't spliy
Hi i have one 12T pipe bender i just purchased. I tried to bend a tubing as a test, in the future create a motorcycle downpipes, it has been distorted even filled with sand. Very disappointed Someone knows what the problem can be ?
The issue is you’re trying to bend tubing in a pipe bender. Tubing is usually thinner wall than pipes and also tubing doesn’t go into the cast dies very snug. When I was bending pipes, they were very snug inside the die, I even had to use a hammer to get my bent pipe out of it. Anyways, HarborFreight bender won’t work on tubing unless you buy different dies specifically for tubing. It’s just my 2 cents on this matter.
@@balabay77 Hi , thanks for answering me, i appreciate I saw some video people weld a bead line on the inner side of the die, so the die is more narrow inside and the tubing is not pressed from the bottom point when pumping the machine. Maybe i can try to add this line of metal and test on tubing Thanks again Happy new year eve
Started watching your video , figured just an other beginner trying to make an video , was going to give you a thumbs down and move on to the next video , but when I seen you where going to make a stand , I had to watch . and you impressed the hell out of me . nice stand . I had a welding company for 40 years , your flux core wire is o.k. once you switch to a 75/25 gas mix with a solid wire you never go back . good job got my 1 1/2 thumbs up !!! Nice to see you wearing gloves , always use caution when grinding always put on a pair of heavy gloves , incase the grinding wheel comes apart . and it takes your thumb off , happen to me . that's why only 1 1/2 thumbs up .
Fishing in Pa Thanks for the tip regarding safety and stuff and appreciate your advice on welding with gas. It’s my first welder and maybe down the road I’ll acquire skills and equipment to improve my welds. Thank you for watching and have a great day.
balabay77 90% argon not 75% 90 will be good all across the board for different thickness and metal type for some. Alot of people use 100% argon but i font agree with that
Fishing in Pa your were going to give Him a thumbs down because he was a beginner making a video? Are you looking for beginners making videos? And I don't believe a grinding wheel cut your thumb off.
I haven’t got one yet but I intend to get one soon. However a tip I’ve read about that I’ve only seen once in a comment section said place a carpet scrap folded over once or twice on top of the die OR a piece of rubber like from a tire and that supposedly yielded the gentleman who wrote the comment a perfect non kinked bends everytime. Again I haven’t tested this out but I fully intend to once I get one in the near future. Maybe you could try it with yours and see if you have any luck? Thx
Maybe I’ll try it next time on my future projects. Thanks for the tip. By the way, there’s a reason why they call it pipe bender and not a tube bender. Many folks buy a pipe bender and then try to bend tubing with it. Tubes are thinner walled material and will kink while bending. Cast dies are made for pipe therefore pipes fit snugly in them. Hopefully it makes sense and will help people figure out why their tubes kink during bending process.

serviciosjabz45 I use this cheap multipurpose angle finder m.harborfreight.com/multipurpose-angle-finder-1028.html So far it worked out great for me. I set it to whatever angle I need and then start bending the pipe. Once I reach desirable angle let's say 45 degrees, I take the pipe out of the bender and check to make sure I'm close enough. Don't over pump the bender 'cause you'll overshoot your bend and ruin the pipe. Usually it takes me 3 to 4 times to get to needed angle. That's the down side of this bender. If you can find better quality angle finder then you'll be golden and your bends would be much more accurate. Good luck bud.
serviciosjabz45 I also forgot to mention that these benders can only go up to 45 degrees. If you need U shaped pipe then you'll have to make two bends of 45 degrees and then weld them together to create U shape. Cheers
The bend is crippling - the formers have have to support the tube above centre line -as in Rigid hydraulic benders- try 2" tube it will flatten the bend
Gordon Pearson This is pipe bender NOT tube bender. So far my pipes come out good enough for any project but many folks who bought these benders and tried bending tubes they were very disappointed in results. Tubes got different radius then pipes therefore they are flattened or pinched during bending process. I can't remember which is which but I believe pipe is measured on inner diameter and the tube is measured on outside diameter?!?
These hydraulic benders are sold to bend iron pipe, in the UK that is code yellow,Blue and Red bands , I took my own 2" pipe into a machine mart shop and said "that if it bent without flattening I would buy one" the machine flattened the bend for reasons I have given previously- not supported by the former to above the centre line of the pipe.
I have a pit bike don't know Wich model but I recently drove it and then I changed the oil in it and now it acts like it have no compression it just rolls in second gear I need help getting started and back on road again
They are not meant to be used on their side at all, their is a version that is meant to be used on its side, if you tip a standard jack on its side it looses oil pressure and will only jack in vertical position. The ones that lay on their side are different in design allthough look very similar
I have the same piece of crap.I bent up some pipe and it kinked plus after a few more bends the die popped.I think it belongs in the shit pile.I'll save the jack and chuck the rest.It really isn't worth what they charged for it.
rockymontana1 Are you sure you were using pipe? It sounds like you were using tubing. Pipes and tubes got different diameter that’s why people get crappy results. Check out my other projects where pipes are flawless. Sorry to hear that your pipe bender didn’t work out for you. They are on the cheap side but my bender makes good looking bends. balabay77 I thought those things put kinks in the tubing? that's y I haven't bought one .... I planned on making my own like alot of people on utube using the protools dies ..the dies are like $500 alone ..the hf one would definitely be cheaper just don't want to have to deal with kinks ...
Diy type of guy I guess these benders are made for pipe but people buy thin walled tubing and get crappy results. Also the pipe needs to be snug in the die for it to work or else it will kink it for sure.

i agreed,im sure this is the only way that cheap bender will give you a perfect bend wo distorting the tube or pipe
wet sand works better
Fill the pipe with sand before bending and seal the ends with tape or baloons. It will keep it from crushing.
Awesome suggestion, thanks 🤙🏻
Is there any specific stainless you can bend? I tried bending 304 2.1m thick tube and it crushed it? Any help would be amazing

I wonder if you apply some heat to the pipe, would it kink or bend smooth....hhmm.

There’s a high chance that the heat will help make perfect bends. I haven’t tried it, let me know how it turns out. Thanks
Where's best to position the linear join of the pipe?
The joint seam should be on the inside of the bend, if you put it to the outside of a bend it stretches the seam and splits, rather than on the inside of the bend it compresses the weld seam and doesn't spliy
Pour sand inside the two ends end cover ends with tape that should help with the kink
