    Hiya! Thanks for popping in to join the conversation 😀 I just thought I'd let you know that since I posted this, I have found a potential yarn for the Cuslett: Ancient Arts Lascaux Fine. It's ordered and on its way. I think it's going to be perfect Whoo hoo!

    I think you should marl swatch the two blues - soft yack and majestic fluff together - see what happens! I am always amazed at the magic of marling. And thank you for introducing us to these designers and patterns. Your Wander swatch is GORGEOUS!!

      You're so right - it did occur to me that I should try marling them together before rejecting the combo. You never know...😘

    Really enjoyed this episode thank you ! Loved the yarn in the sweater you're wearing . I hadn't realised how lucky I am to be able to wear mohair ,eeek ! I've knitted loads of things with a fungering weight yarn and mohair. About 5 Sophie scarves , the love note sweater, and a pinions poncho to name but a few 😀

    The second sweater I ever knitted was a Norah Gaughan Vogue knitting fair isle, for my brother, way back in the 1980s. I was so proud of that piece!

      A Norah Fair Isle? You don't find that very often. I'm going to check that out...😃

    • @jayjaychappo
      @jayjaychappo วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Knicoleknits Yep! and a men's one no less. It even has what looks like mosiac at the base (but it's not). I loved the waffle texture in the body. If you enter the search terms "#16 Fair Isle Pullover" in Ravelry, you'll find it. Published in Vogue Knitting Holiday 1987. Reasonably simple as it is, there's a lot to be said about my naive youthful courage to do a knit like that with no experience and noone around to help me (and no youtube!). No wonder it took me well over a year, and I had never again attempted another stranded colorwork piece - until last month.

    Yarns: I’m not crazy about mohair, not because I can’t wear it. I just don’t like feeling of it.
    I have recently made a sweater in, Sandnes Garn, Tynn Peer Gynt (itchy) held together with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk. This sweater I can wear next to the skin, without irritating my skin.❤

    Thank you for this great episode! 🫶🏻
    Personally, I only like the Cuslett cardigan, but it's really good! I'll definitely knit it. I particularly like the asymmetries and the change in structure, which makes knitting more exciting (I get bored quickly doing the same thing over and over again, especially since I'm tall and wear XXL, the torso part can sometimes seem to take forever).
    I also absolutely can't wear mohair - no matter which manufacturer. My alternative is the base Clarabella (from Italy), which is made of baby alpaca, mulberry silk and extra-fine merino and which I dye myself.
    Warm greetings from halfway around the world from Austria! I'm always so happy when there's a new episode of you and Oskar❤️

    Yarns: it still may not work for you, but Biches et Buches silk-mohair is LIGHT YEARS softer than Rowan Kid Silk Haze. When in Norway earlier this year, I also brought home a skein of Rauma Garn Alpaca Silk, and it also passes the “stick it under the bra strap and wear it” test. With both of these, I forgot the skein was tucked inside!!!! An alternative is to not two-strand-. I bought both Kos (Sandnes Garn I thin) and CaMaRose Snefnug in Norway. Both are blown yarns, light as a cloud, and soft soft soft. I made the Karla Cardigan by Anne Ventzel in the Snefnug which has cotton (not nylon as with the Kos) as the tube. I love it so much I’m scouting around for another pattern to have this floaty winter hug in a pullover. Last bit…I heard that the Danish don’t “do” schematics. Total bummer…the insanely popular Mette of Petite Knits doesn’t include schematics! I may make a croquis (body outline) so I can sketch up my own using pattern info. Anyway, waving hi from Maine!

    • @Knicoleknits
      @Knicoleknits  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I personally hate Mohair with a passion - both working with it, and wearing it. After some cumbersome testing of many similar yarns out there I found three that always work for me, are great to work with, AND have a good price (my opinion): Holst Garn Titicaca (100 % alpaca), Holst Garn Lucia (42% Baby Alpaca, 35% Mulberry Silk, 13% Merino Wool and 10% Yak), and Istex Einband. Einband feels rather firm and scratchy but becomes softer with each washing (especially if you use some hair conditioner during the washing) - my one year old nephew loves napping with/ on my Einband scarf and refuses to use anything else 😂. For me it´s great to get those extra lightweight but warm outdoor garments (when combined with any unspun yarn).

    • @Knicoleknits

I've used malabrigo silkpaca and yarnundyed baby alpaca but i think they have brushed merino i want to try too. Why not use merino for the Cuslett sweater? Does it have an itch factor? I haven’t ever seen those other sheep’s wool you’ve mentioned. Would you think about doing an educational video about different wools and the differences in the way they can be spun? I keep hearing about woolen spun yarns and have no clue what that means….
    Looking forward to seeing those socks with the unique color combo…

    • @Knicoleknits
      @Knicoleknits  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Right. I said I didn't want to use merino necessarily, but then didn't say why. It is super soft for sure, but with that softness comes with a lack of durability. For a cardigan I know I'll wear often, I'd like something a bit more robust. I can be tricky to find yarns with both qualities 😊 As for a wool-types video, I did one on Yarn Substitution about a year ago that has some information about type, but you're right, I could and should do one that more focused on blends, plies, and spinning methods 😋

    Uber-lucky human that can wear mohair. I've made April cardigan and a self-designed lace scarf in knitting for olive mohair paired with their merino. I've also used Lana Gatto and Lana Grasso mohairs. I've used the Lana Gatto lavender color mohair single strand for a beautiful light lace scarf, called chalice one ball scarf. It is so light, I want to double the width and triple the length for that scarf. I have some of lana gatto mohair left. I also used Lana Grasso mohair in an orange color for use in a scarf called river run. River run shawl by mango moon is a great stash buster, and the pattern is written so that you can do your own thing within the pattern. I made mine in shades of orange, green, and dusty pinks. Get tons of compliments when I wear it. I want to make another River Run with blues and greens. The picture shown on ravelry for the pattern I do not like at all. However, a LYS has 5 different River Run Shawls displayed and they are really cool and amazingly beautiful. Those shawls that were displayed in the LYS made me knit the pattern. I chatted with the owner, who made them, and she said you can really make the pattern your own. Which is true!
