  • At Louisville's Rodes City Run, there are no losers, not even the person who finishes dead last. Asia Ford wears that badge with a smile as big as the race itself.

+FatRakoon I am now 65 - although I have not been Big, have been o/weight over 40 yrs. I have found eating fruit for breakfast - esp berries n cherries the most important dietary move of all - that and daily cinnamon for body's joints ... plenty'o supplements, magnesium, all vits and minerals, Chinese meds from a good naturopath, and GO2 oxygen, obtainable on net. I have had diabetes 10 yrs. These things help greatly. Exercise 4 times per week - use "interval training" ... no need for long training or walking, but what you do, do it all out - 5 - 8 mins - that's all

I do exercise, in as much as I can.
a few years ago, I had an accident, in which I simply should never have survived. I have had massive internal injuries and even worse bone breaks.
I broke my neck, skull, and Jaw, my back in 4 places, my pelvis in 3 places, all my ribs, both arms in several places, including almost all of my fingers, and my right leg in multiple places, mostly the femur, and I have only just on the 5th of December 2015, had another operation, where they had to take 4 inches from the femur because of a bone infection that simply rot the bone away, and hopefully on the 13th on this month ( Jan 2016 ) they are going to re-break the bone in another part, and try to extend the bone again to get back what was lost.
I can just about get around using my crutches, but at best, I can get from my bed to my wheelchair, but ONLY when my wife, or one of my visiting nurses helps me.
In terms of exercise, I do try to do what I can.
I used to play Rugby when I was younger, and I also fought for my University and county in Tae Kwon-Do and I am by no means lazy in any way, but things sometimes make it difficult to do even basic things such as pick up a cup of coffee.
Now, the reason why I become diabetic, is that in the accident, I also had both lungs punctured, my left lung even came out of the side of my body, both my kidneys were crushed, leading me to have to live on a dialysis machine, my liver was cut in half, my spleen was crushed and also my pancreas was crushed too!
The pancreas, as you may or mat not know, is the organ in your body, that controls your blood sugars, and therefore the cause of my diabetes.
The risk to my leg is a combination of multiple breaks, plus, due to the diabetes now affecting me, the bloods were not as good quality as they should have been.
The breaks near my knee got good bloods, as did the breaks in the hip, the top of the femur, but as you go further down the femur ( or up if we are talkign from the knee ) the bloods getting there was getting worse and worse. They had also inserted a pin through the femur and so there was no marrow anymore to help produce new blood and so the whole thing ended up simply rotting away.
I now have all the metalwork removed and it is now external in the hope that this will help somewhat and it sure is doing. My bone is actually knitting very well for the first time in 3 years.
So, when you say start exercising, I do hope you mean that in Jest, now that you know my situation.
Also, when I said, I should not have survived the accident, I am sure that you can understand that too! - my nickname in the hospital was Wolverine because I was recovering from things that I simply should never have done so, and surprisingly quickly too!
They said I will never walk again, I can sort of hobble, but its more than they thought I ever would.
They said I would be stuck in bed for a year at least and I managed to stand up for the first time in only 6 months
They said that I wont be able to walk for months but I managed to take my first step only a few days after first standing again, and I even managed to walk ( with the huge frame I admit ) to the entrance of the ward, and thats about 10 feet from my bed, in only 3 weeks.
These were massive goals at the time. It may not sound much, but considering what happened to me, they were massive things for me to achieve.
I still have a load of operations to go, so far the doctors have another 7 planned and of course this will change according to how things pan out, and I hope that one day I will be able to get back to work, I dont know what kind of work, but some work. Anything will be better than no work, and this I hope to do, BEFORE I am 50.
Its a near impossible task, but its my goal and so why not?
Oh, and one other thing before I bugger off...
A few months ago, I joined Weight Watchers.
I had lost 2 and a bit stone, and I have even had slimmer of the week a total of 5 times.
I will openly admit however, that I have had to put it on hold with going to the hospital for my latest op and I am back in again as I said, plus xmas has just been and I have had a few too many treats, and I am scared to weigh myself - I know I have put some back on, its visible, but, I will also get back into the swing of it in a few months when I start it back up.
This weight loss was done with diet and not with excercise as it fairly obvious.
It has been difficult I am not even going to pretent it is not, and I am bored shitless and so I do comfort eat, but as I said... I wll get back into it as soon as I am a little bit more mobile, and my wife gets the time off so she can take me again.
I think this is a big enough post... I am now waffling so I will stop.

Wish the media would cover more stories like this bc i know it is happening all over the country. Please be safe out there, officers. I’m sure people they have helped throughout their time as officers will remember their kindness and hopefully spread the word.

WOW !!!!! Its great to see a video that shows that there are GOOD cops out there . Sadly we have so many that are a disgrace to the badge . Im a retired cop and hope the good cops dont get hurt because of these idiots that dont deserve respect . This officer epitomizes what a police officer is all about. Be safe buddy ...

A very heartwarming story on multiple fronts: her willingness to have a better life and his stepping up to help someone in need of encouragement. Well played, folks! I hope she continued to lose weight and regain her strength, and I hope his life continues to enrich others as an example of what we believe police officers can be.
