  • Advance care planning is critical yet so many of us are unprepared. What is an advance directive? What’s the difference between an advance directive vs living will? Do you know what a health care proxy, sometimes called a medical proxy, is? Or a DNR, DNR Medical or Do Not Resuscitate Order form? FInd out on this week’s episode of The Modern Age. Elder Law Attorney Linda Redlisky walks us through these important documents that everyone should have on file in the event of a health crisis. They serve as a way to instruct medical personnel or doctors on how you would like to be medically treated in the event you become incapacitated.

This is such critical information. Nobody likes to think about this stuff--what we want done if we become incapacitated. Even harder is getting our elders to engage this kind of thinking--what they want done if all of a sudden they are no longer able to make their own decisions regarding their healthcare. Often you'll hear people use the scare tactic, like 'Mom, it's not a question of if but when. You have to think about this stuff now.' No. I love how Linda sets it up: like, 'This is for you Mom, for your comfort. You have control of this. You make the decision.' Linda is so calm as she talks about this very challenging subject, and she demystifies it. These are not difficult things to set up. You can download the forms online. You can revoke/change your decision. Explaining how easy this can be makes it less challenging, maybe even more inviting, and that's because of Linda's demeanor and way of explaining things so clearly, with humor. Great attorney, great person, puts her clients first, treats them like family. Great video. Thank you.

👏Super informative show - thanks so much. Being prepared reduces everyone’s anxiety and isn’t that worth the effort.
    It’s just plain thoughtful.

Agree to disagree, doctors do make their own decisions regarding their agendas.
